The 3D Land main theme is catchier than any of the Galaxy songs.

3D Land theme is great

There is only so much GRAND EPIC MUSIC I can take before it gets old

epic music is one of those things I can consume 24/7 with no problem whatsoever

I'd say the same for funk. ^_^

Jazz works well for Mario too

Well, jazz is an extremely broad genre. And besides, funk has jazz elements, so you can say it's a subgenre.

I'd day 80% of 3D World's music classifies as jazz
It's more like big-band jazz similar to Gordon Goodwin and stuff. Jazz, yes, but it only barely scratches the genre.

Super funk bros

I tried out the demo, and was able to handle the Intro with both Mario's and Luigi's team. However, Expert was quite a tough one, as it wasn't until I used Luigi's team that I even managed to beat it.

No one is convincing you to buy the game?

my adblock turned off in just this one thread for no reason

I have bought this game last month as a second-hand game, and I am surprised at how enjoyable it is. For one, developing the team feels pretty good. I am currently doing World 5, and all my teams have Mario as a leader because Mario is awesome.

I am at World 5 so far, and haven't fought the fortress yet.

There are some discoveries I have made when playing:
  • Coin Coffers are a great source of experience: depower them and a team member gains lots of experience. Being that their max level is 1, it's doubtful that they are going to be used in a serious battle except for money (their ability is to double the money, with their upgrade tripling it instead).
  • P-Wings are ironically easy to obtain in this game. By the time I am done with upgrading my team members with them, I have already had more than enough of them that I have about 20+ so far. Conversely, Super Mushrooms are ironically not so easy to obtain, yet it is the one item I would love to have more of.
  • Although pretty pricey, the "Lucky ? Slots" is one of the best things to have, mainly because there are some sweet stuff found in them. If there's one item I hope I don't get, it's the 1-Up Mushrooms because gaining lives is not hard.
  • The Hammer Bros. family are very nice to have as team members because their abilities involve changing certain colours on the field. Luckily they only have one upgrade each, so they don't take long to reach their full potential. Unfortunately they only have one type, and the original Hammer Bro. is not as advanced as the others.
  • Big Paragoomba is almost always my lifesaver and timesaver, because its ability is very awesome: it can attack all enemies for huge damage, and does not come with a ridiculous charge time (see: Bone Piranha Plant).
  • Some combinations of enemies are downright bizarre. I knew of the "Koopa Troopa riding a Cheep Cheep" beforehand, but it's surreal to consider that "Dry Bones riding a Cheep Cheep" exists in this game, along with "Double Lakitu" and "Blooper and Cheep Cheeps".
  • The first time fighting Morton was frankly a pain, only because I was unprepared by how hard this game could get.
  • Those secret passageways are rather troublesome to get to, mainly because I have to engineer my team to convert certain pieces into suitable ones. Example: the one in World 1 requires a Light piece, but the stage doesn't have any, so I have to get one member to do the conversion. World 5 gave me the most trouble so far, because King Boo was the boss. It's usually worth going for the secret paths, especially the one in World 4.

Still though, it's a wonderful experience if not addictive, for puzzles + Mario fits my interests quite well.

I have completed everything before the game received a software update. Sadly, the new Score Attack mode has some levels that are just way too difficult, making it almost impossible to get the new Mario and Luigi forms.

Reporting my progress here: I am currently up to World *6, and the game is looking to be challenging on the road ahead. List of thoughts so far:

  • Even though the Lucky ? Slots gives out Star Gems more easily, there are still a lot of allies to give abilities to.
  • I consider HP-up abilities to be very useful, in order to survive enemy fire more frequently. The HP-up awaken abilities increase max HP by 2% (L1), 6% (L2), 10% (L3), 14% (L4) and 18% (L5) of the team's max HP. I thought it would be exponential based on the Star Gems required, but it's disappointing to know that that isn't the case.
  • Using Luigi's forms and Rosalina in Score Attack caused me to realise that both could be useful, and I admittedly wished I could use them to ease my challenge, but I have promised myself not to use either character on principle, unless forced (like in Fixed Challenge). I would rather use Yoshi (including the Winged variants), Peach or Bowser because they are still useful during my adventure's progress.
  • Toads as Helpers are obsolete at this point in my adventure because the power they provide is unremarkable, even though extra HP is nice. In fact, it took me a long time to beat World *1-Fortress when using a Toad Helper!
  • The best Mario (or Luigi) form is surprising his Boomerang variant. If Metal and Gold Mario were the strongest forms, that would have been understandable, but a form that is not invincible is a surprising choice. If you don't know what it does, it basically increases damage multiplier the more colours you match in a combo. It is by far the most flexible one yet, beating Boo Mario and Statue Luigi in terms of damage output. They even provided a taste of it in Fixed Challenge 5, where matching Fire, Water, Wood, Light, Dark and Heart will have an Attack multiplier of 30.25x, counting both Boomerang Mario and Boomerang Luigi's Attack bonus.
  • I have played all the way up to World *6 and I still don't have a Boom Boom ally. I thought a guarantee is possible with 10+ combos, but turns out that it is very much luck-based, and I have no luck with Boom Boom. This means I have every enemy variant up to now, except for Roy (and forms), Ludwig (and forms) and Bowser Jr., and of course Boom Boom.

Speaking of this, and this finally came back to me to see about asking - were there any new pieces music wise in the case of Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition? The reason I ask this is because most of the musical score I heard are like "remixes" from the New Super Mario Bros. Wii musical score, unless I'm missing something in my "research".

From what I heard when playing, I don't remember hearing about new musical scores. I do know that some of the music surprising also come from Super Mario 3D World, such as the slide theme (remixed from Super Mario 64), the Double Cherry Pass theme and the Castle theme (that was from 3D Land, but it's also found in 3D World). I don't think any of the music came from Galaxy, considering that nothing in this game originates there (Rosalina is probably based on the 3D World incarnation).

As for the Map themes, I don't quite know where they came from. Since I never played New Super Mario Bros. Wii, I presume that they came from that game.

I don't remember what the credits theme sounded like, but I imagine it's also reused.
