Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright, Conquest, and Revelation)

Re: Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright and Conquest)

Time to face rub our way into their hearts.

I'm okay with it. Except the avatar's child looks silly with that hair bun.

figured marriage would be back, but the children are a surprise. i'd rather the mother determine the child instead of the father tho
YES, but have they confirmed same-sex relationships yet
Curiously, Shara’s appearance and dialogue resembles Tharja from Awakening…
lol

Oh and apparently it's two versions in the west as well. The version names are Birthright & Conquest. http://serenesforest.net/2015/06/16/fire-emblem-fates-releasing-two-separate-versions-west/ Riots in 3... 2... 1...

I don't really mind the two versions thing in all honesty, it's dumb but in the end there's likely to be a bundle for both right? I'll just get that. If I can't then I'll get Nohr because that's the one I'm interested in.
*sigh* man why couldn't they just announce it like this in the beginning, i was honestly excited to have two games on one cart. if they're both radically different games then that's cool because it means more to play but honestly i'm not excited about having to choose which version i want to pay for first. sucks man

i'll probably go with birthright (hoshido) first because i'm still relatively new to fire emblem and probably won't like the increase of difficulty in nohr

if there's a special edition with both on one cart i'm going for that instead.

Re: Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright and Conquest)

I know I don't care for fire emblem but

fire emblem if nohr/hoshido sounds way cool than fire emblem fates birthright/conquest (given those are the final titles, i didnt watch those nintendo treehouse videos)

Re: Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright and Conquest)

To be honest I don't care what they call it, games the same anyway. As long as the boxart stays cool.

Re: Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright and Conquest)

I want to click but idk you make it sound pretty dangerous to.

Is it like a leak or something?

Re: Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright and Conquest)

No, it's from a magazine scan. A leaked magazine scan, but I believe the magazine in question came out today anyway.

Re: Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright and Conquest)

Oh.

Yeah I'm with the "yeah yeah marriage, whoa whoa children?!" people, I'm not sure how effectively they could make it work in this game, particularly on the Nohr path.

Re: Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright and Conquest)

I think someone translated the page and it said something about a wormhole. So like, dimension travelling or something.

Some people have been saying it could be Hoshido exclusive but I doubt it. I'm fine with it as long as the children are interesting characters themselves, I'm not particularly bothered if they just shoe-horn them in for those people that liked it in Awakening. Marriage/Children wasn't really a huge thing to me anyway, I just saw it as the prerequisite for recruiting some side characters and that hasn't changed with this news. The only one that mattered in the grand scheme of things was Lucina but she was hardly a side character.

I assume face-rubbing in Nohr will make up for the ability to grind supports on previous maps in Hoshido.

Re: Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright and Conquest)

Yeah, I would've rather have just the adult units, children feel really unnecessary here when there's already tons of units.

Got sick of waiting for the new one, that's when the gameplay starts.

Hoshido side, Chapter 7.

Re: Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright and Conquest)

i'm totally fine with child units, but if this is the design for the mu's kid i don't think i like it very much.

Re: Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright and Conquest)

higher quality versions of those marriage pictures btw http://i.imgur.com/ZI6Lqeb.jpg

MU kid's design has grown on me, or it just looks better with the better quality scans.

edit: also someone translated some of it and explained it

Bonds and Marriage
[Support Conversations] After units' bonds with one another deepen to a certain extent, units can engage in a support conversation. Upon having such a conversation, the support level increases incrementally, from C, B, A, to S, and characters' relationships deepen in turn. Raising units' support level from C through A is possible with any unit pair; it is useful to diligently engage in support conversations to adeptly progress through battles, as well.
[Marriage] After deepening one's bonds through various methods, when members of the opposite sex reach the highest support level, S, the units are able to get married. Depending on the specific pair of units married, a child is born from them, and that child becomes an ally who can fight by their side.

Note that C~A supports being possible with any two units regardless of gender or relationship would result in a significant amount of support conversations, and hopefully indicates that the Awakening pattern of "mainly romantic supports, with a few familial or same-gender ones" might not be adhered to.
The child units only join upon certain couples achieving the S rank, and this is stated to be true for Kamui's child, as well, so it's doubtful that the children factor into the overarching plot at all. (According to members of 2ch who read the Nintendo Dream released today, one of the magazine's reviewers played through the entirety of the game without marrying or obtaining children, and stated that this decision had no discernable effect upon the game's story, nor was he forced to S-rank or play a child-related paralogue/side chapter.)

I'm glad that they're just sort of a side thing that doesn't really matter. I know some people might not like having them not effect the plot in any way, but I prefer it this way. Also apparently only certain couples? I think it'd be kinda cool having children tied to two characters instead of one just to shake things up.

I wouldn't mind they were in, but I kind of doubt Nintendo would let them do it.

Re: Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright and Conquest)

Some people got the game early it seems, so now is the time to be wary of surprise spoilers. There's a stream going on if you want to be spoiled though, you can probably find the link on the fireemblem subreddit.

Oh and;
You can get A+ supports instead of S with some characters. Luna can get A+ with Camilla and Belka. I assume it'd be the same for Avatar and his/her Hoshido siblings, Nohr might allow for S supports who knows at the very least, Leo can go to S rank w/ fem avatar.

something else too

also you can choose your own reclass option, so you can choose to have a wyvern rider or pegasus warrior reclass option if you'd like. I think you can only have one though.

EDIT:
unrelated, but
http://www.polygon.com/2015/6/23/8836513/fire-emblem-fates-same-sex-relationships-nintendo

"We can confirm that Fire Emblem Fates for Nintendo 3DS, which launches in Japan on June 25, 2015, and is coming to the U.S. and Europe in 2016, includes the possibility for a same-sex marriage to take place between the main character created by the gamer and another character in the game," Nintendo said in a statement.
Well the presence of only a single opportunity for same-sex marriage is a little lacking, but otherwise it's a good first step*. Great to hear that they've listened.
*actually they've made some really strange choices for implementing it, such as Spoilers: having both of the characters version exclusive (it seems Zero is Nohr and Shara is Hoshido), and one of them is Spoilers: the offspring of two other units (and the tharja expy, ofc).

It's much more limited than what I initially thought... :/

Re: Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright and Conquest)

It's so much fun watching r/fireemblem have a meltdown over all the my castle features in Fates. I'm pretty much neutral on the whole thing.

I like half the kids designs, but I'm not particularly against any either. Ophelia and Zoffy are cute. I'm curious as to what Midoriko's class is, I heard someone say there was a mysterious merchant class somewhere but they never had a source. Actually I just found out that Merchant is a class (Herb Merch -> Great Merch).

also idk if this is stepping on a landmine or anything but I think Foleo is cute. Reminds me of Rider of Black, except considerably more timid. That picture wasn't an official compilation by the way, a reddit user posted it when someone asked him to put the child's with their parents to figure who belongs to which male parent. I'm pretty sure there's been no official anything to do with the children yet.

Can't say I care for tharja but not tharja, but I'm glad not cordy and not gaius are there. I liked those two more and more as I watched their supports (basically the opposite effect that tharja's supports had lmao).

I watched the stream for a little while yesterday and the dual stance system looks really interesting. I want to give it a try.

So the three child expies have their description as 'birthplace and personal history unknown'. This makes me curious if they actually are more than just fanservice for the Awakening players, I never really considered that a possibility. The outworld gate is back I think, that's the thing Anna was in front of I believe. Spooky. Don't hover over this if you don't want to know more confusing things about them; Luna actually admits that her name is Serena/Severa in a piece of her dialogue, also apparently the child that looks like Tharja says something like 'no matter how many times im reborn i'll fall in love with you at first sight each time' which raised eyebrows. whaaat. its so confusing but im super interested in it even though it seems like just a sub-plot to explain their likeness to the awakening characters.edit: or if you just want to know outright; they're from the awakening world, in a Lazward/Odin conversation, quote 'Hey, remember when our very first world was destroyed? After that... we managed to reunite with our moms in the next world, and fought until we defeated the evil dragon.' and then they reference the Inigo/Owain conversation from one of the DLC's where Owain tells Inigo he'll lend his shoulder when he needs to talk and then Odin literally calls him Azur/Inigo and says 'Not even Serena[Severa] would have a problem with that... I hope.'. I'm assuming this means they came through an outrealm gate or something? Someone said their solo ends mentioned wandering off by themselves but idk if that's true.

Maybe he's supposed to be this game's Lucius / Libra character.

And Grey looks just like Gaius.
yeah, I was going to bring up that FE does have a tendency of having 'very androgynous/feminine looking guys who are easily mistaken as girls, but state they are male in game' (Libra/Lucius) but idk since I haven't seen the full details so can't really make a full judgement on the issue...

And yes, Grey does look like Gaius, I am so glad my fave three FEA characters get lookalikes in fates (Cordelia, Gaius and Inigo)
