Re: Rate the Mario Kart Track Day 32: Bowser's Castle from Mario Kart 64

7/10

While not my favourite bowser's castle, because I don't find it to be the crazy shit later Bowser Castles showed, it's still a great replica of Bower's Castle being turned into a racecourse.

Re: Rate the Mario Kart Track Day 32: Bowser's Castle from Mario Kart 64

10/10 excellent track which feels like a real Bowser Castle. The music is great as well.

Re: Rate the Mario Kart Track Day 32: Bowser's Castle from Mario Kart 64

8.5/10

when I was younger, the chants in the song for the wii remake of this and for ds bowser castle really hurt my ears for some reason
now it's not as bad for this ((but the ds is still bleh))

Re: Rate the Mario Kart Track Day 32: Bowser's Castle from Mario Kart 64

9/10

A truly great track, but not the best the game has to offer.

Re: Rate the Mario Kart Track Day 32: Bowser's Castle from Mario Kart 64

Bowser's Castle gets an 8.77

Next up is DK's Jungle Parkway

Re: Rate the Mario Kart Track Day 33: DK's Jungle Parkway from Mario Kart 64

Day 33: DK's Jungle Parkway :dk:

I will give DK's Jungle Parkway a 7. This was the old relaxing track until Maple Treeway came along. I like the Jungle theme and the launch ramp over the river with the Mario Steamboat. The bridge is very narrow, but is a good spot to place bananas (no pun intended).

Re: Rate the Mario Kart Track Day 33: DK's Jungle Parkway from Mario Kart 64

2/10

----ing coconuts

Re: Rate the Mario Kart Track Day 33: DK's Jungle Parkway from Mario Kart 64

3/10 annoying to race on and the yellow water in the remakes looks disgusting.

Re: Rate the Mario Kart Track Day 33: DK's Jungle Parkway from Mario Kart 64

8/10 cool track, and the lap skip glitch makes it really funny.

Re: Rate the Mario Kart Track Day 33: DK's Jungle Parkway from Mario Kart 64

4/10

very meh

Re: Rate the Mario Kart Track Day 33: DK's Jungle Parkway from Mario Kart 64

DK's Jungle Parkway gets a 6.63

Next up is Yoshi Valley!

Re: Rate the Mario Kart Track Day 34: Yoshi Valley from Mario Kart 64

Day 34: Yoshi Valley from Mario Kart 64 :yoshi:

I will give Yoshi Valley a 10. This is my 2nd favorite track in the Mario Kart series (DS Tick Tock Clock is my favorite), and I love how this track is very unique to the others. It is the only one to have a complete maze in the middle of the track. The maze is so weird, the CPU doesn't know what the rankings are until the end! Also love the Giant Yoshi Egg. Best 64 track! :yoshi: :yoshi: :yoshi: :yoshi:

Re: Rate the Mario Kart Track Day 34: Yoshi Valley from Mario Kart 64

10/10!!

This course is so unique, so fun, so chaotic, and it is Yoshi's track. And it's still unique today (quite the feat). What's to hate?

I freaking love this course. It's one of the best, if not the best, this game has to offer.

EDIT: There are three 10 votes at the top. I posted right after the TC did. What the heck?

Re: Rate the Mario Kart Track Day 34: Yoshi Valley from Mario Kart 64

0/10 (or 1/10 if that's not possible)

It's an awful track, especially in the N64 version. The multiple paths are pointless and aesthetically unpleasing. If they wanted to make a long track that's pleasing and interesting to race on, yes, they could have, the N64 can support long and interesting tracks so it's not an excuse that it looks like crap and is horrible to race on. This track isn't pleasing to race on: you're basically suspended on something carved on top of ----. It's mostly featureless other than that. And then there's the long drops that take an eternity to get respawned. What's worse is that the game cannot keep track of the character order. If the track doesn't have the capacity to do something basic like keeping track of character order, then the idea of the track should be either altered or scrapped completely.

But, I strongly believe that the game cannot keep track of character order is utter BS nevertheless. You still receive items corresponding to your place; you WON'T get a star if you're second place and you're far more likely to get stronger items when you're in back of the pack, something that requires that the game keep track of your placement. Furthermore, your character icon on the map flashes when you're first, another hint. Furthermore, the game CAN tell what order the cpus are in the very end, which requires that it calculates positions at that moment with reliance on checkpoints and stuff. I'm thinking that the design to make everything "lol you can't tell" is a deliberate design choice rather than a fault of ----ty programming. And it fails in that regard: it makes everything unfun and the track nearly unplayable.

I also have a problem with the multiple paths format. The execution of it is very sloppily made. What's the point of taking alternate paths if everything looks the same? When I think of a game that does the multiple paths format right, Beetle Adventure Racing comes to mind. And that game was on N64 too.

The Wii U remake is not as bad, as it has much more variety than the ---- that is the N64 version, but the track just became boring. It also has muddy and an overeliance on bloom to make the muddiness even worse.

Verdict: This is a clear example of what NOT to do in course design: if you're incapable of pulling off a great concept, like say, multiple paths in this track, then the track will end up sucking royally and it would be better off if you stayed to your other, much better, fine examples.

Everything about this atrocious shithole. It's toned down in Wii U version, but people remember it for the N64 version, and it's a wretched trainwreck of a track. I shudder every time I have to race on this pathetic excuse for a course with the respawning, the miserable physics, those fucking porcupines and the unnecessary convolution of the track.

Fuck Yoshi Valley.

Re: Rate the Mario Kart Track Day 34: Yoshi Valley from Mario Kart 64

It amuses me to see how polarized the opinion of this track is.
