two issues i have with that; geno is third party and just cause theyre slim doesnt mean theyre out of the running. and layton, i thought he was first party?

It says "This list is in no way official." Whilst that does mean that someone could've gathered the results themselves to make this image, before that it also says "ranked using the following criteria: popularity, series success, viability as a fighter, contribution to Nintendo's history and licensing constraints".

Basically, it doesn't say that these are results gathered from the actual poll.

so my guess is that someone has attempted to list the most popular choices (based on what's being said around the net) and then rank them by their own opinions of their viability (or the opinions of a group of people, idk)

i didnt think of this before but abraham lincoln being playable is an actual fucking possibility now

im excited, i seriously hope this ballot ends with an unlikely person making it in rather than an expected inkling or k rool

the layton series is made by level-5, a third party company, even if all of the installments up to this point (barring that ios spinoff which doesnt even have any layton characters in it afaik) have been on nintendo consoles

that would make sense, especially as it seems to mostly only consist of people who are heavily requested among the western audiences (idk who the japanese want but seeing the EBA makes me think of the ouendan, which im sure theres some people in japan who would vote them, same goes for other series that are mostly popular in japan)

also why in the world is wart placed so high??

if anyone cares, there's this article which talks about which characters are most requested in japan, but it's a bit outdated

according to this survey, Lucas was #1, followed by nearly all veterans (including pichu) as the most requested characters in Japan. King K. Rool is the first newcomer request after that.

yeah the image is from /v/, and it's not meant to be taken as the official results

it's a pretty extensive summary of popular contenders though. I seriously hope Isaac ranks highly in the real thing

K. Rool AND Inkling? Are we getting more than one character for DLC?
 
First of all, remember that this image is just a fan who pooled together results from multiple sources. But I do think it's likely we will see more than one character come out of this.

also, the current character selection screen only allows for three new characters, and two of those have already been confirmed. just a thought.
 
Portraits can shrink, and people have found files of arrows in the game;s code that would be used as a "next page" button.
 
If Banjo-Kazooie is one of the people to make it in, I hope they use the original design and I hope they rip the audio from the original game, I want to hear him go "Owww!" when he's knocked off screen.
 
I think that the winner will actually be someone who has already been playable in Smash.

Much to my disappointment, as I don't really feel any desire for any cut character. They haven't cut any of the ones I care about.
 
The only veteran I think has a real shot at being DLC is Wolf. And he may be planned regardless or not of the Ballot.

And I still think it's not about a single winner. It will be winners. The Poll is to give a good idea what the Devs can make over a span of maybe 2 years or so.

The blank spots aren't indicative of anything. If the game actually followed blank spots specifically. Then at one point of this game's development. There would only be about 20 something characters just because there were like only 2 or 3 spots after Sonic and/or Marth was revealed. They can always add more if need be.
 
I think 5 is a safe bet for the probably minimum dlc characters. You have Mewtwo and Lucas, who account for two spots and Wolf is almost guaranteed so that's 3. The other two spots will likely be for ballot choices.
