post any random Mario thought on your mind

Sometimes I wonder if Paper Mario's gameplay never changed, would the series be suffering from a stagnation problem like the M&L series did?

What do you mean by the M&L series had a stagnation problem? Only played SSS and BIS so far by the way, but I keenly intend to play all of them.

Well the series gameplay never really evolved much. They just kept adding in new gimmicks.

Meh I think it was alright. I don't know about PIT but directly comparing BIS to SSS I think the gameplay is appreciably changed.

I mean, to each their own but I never found a problem with Mario & Luigi's gameplay "stagnating" like it did. The games always added a new gimmick like Bowser or the Dream World or Paper Mario to keep the combat fresh from previous entries, and the wildly different premises also helped. It's not like New Super Mario Bros. where every game feels the same, you're working towards different things in each Mario & Luigi game.

For the most part the "stagnation" came from the over-reliance on remakes with Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story, but given the circumstances it's pretty clear why things happened the way they did.

Of course Paper Mario's original battle system could benefit from similar changes. Like how Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door made changes to the original by giving partners their own HP and a bunch of other quality of life changes.

It really depends on what they do to the franchise, the question can encompass A LOT of directions that can go with it.

I feel like the Switch is make or break for Paper Mario. Given how stellar the recent games have been, often the best in their series, now more than ever is the time for the series to go back to doing something that's fun and doesn't go against basic game design philosophies, be it returning to its roots or doing something else that's fun.

If Paper Mario isn't doing that now then it never will. The series will just shamble on until it dies.

Anyone else find it strange that Mario's family does not even seem to care about him or his brother having left Earth to live in the Mushroom Kingdom forever? They don't seem to be worried about them having vanished, not even getting news from them living there. What a careless family.

Is it true that you can use a usb y cable with a portable hard drive on wii u and it will have enough power?

What are you powering?

What are you powering?
portable hard drive, maybe 100 gigs

I know I said to YFJ usb stick but actually it'd be cool to have something a little more long term reliable

Probably would have enough power, that thing can run some emulators iirc.

I have an external hard drive connected to my Wii U and it works just fine. I think it's around the 32-64GB range, but I can't be bothered to so I might be wrong.

Um what does emulation have to do with a hard drive?

Did you do the thing with the y cable, does it have its own power supply?

I hear a lot of people say that y cables such as this one work well enough with wii u as the additional port can supply enough power to keep a relatively small portable hard drive powered safely.

Um what does emulation have to do with a hard drive?

you're asking about power. emulation requires a lot of power to run.

So that would be why my PC gets a little warm when I play TTYD and SPM in HD.

So you think that it'll be good with a usb y cable, and a 100gb portable hard drive?

pretty sure it's something similar, but it definitely steals power off the Wii U

nice link

you should be fine

compared this mk8 line gif to a generic artwork because i suspected mario was a lil stubbier in the gif and.. notcied some other differences! like the face for example

thats quite interesting. im not exactly sure but the line gif mario has snes artworks energy to me. and thatd make sense since the other mk8 line stickers reference super mario kart artworks!

Kinda reminds me of the shirts that Pink Cat posted a while back.

Specifically the far left one. Funny is that I own an oldish shirt that has Mario and Luigi in that pose, but they look more like these

Unfortunate I prefer the sleeker latter ones as they're more proportional to the 3D models; the stubby ones do remind me of the older days though

I want another Punch Out game and I want another Mario/Donkey Kong character to be a guest opponent in it.

Mario has to be back as referee too, no compromises on that.
