i like to think i've changed a lot in the last three years and don't blindly use conservative media as my sole source of information but voting for a democratic socialist sets of so many pavlovian responses that i don't think i could bring myself to vote for him
 
Pataki seems like a pretty cool guy, even though he'll never win. eh, maybe not

I don't exactly know how I feel about Carson. He's like a walking contradiction. He's a great scientist, but says stuff that is so blatantly not scientific it hurts. I agree with a lot of his fiscal stuff, but I've heard him talk on the radio and some of the things he said made me want to throw up.

He wants to eliminate the IRS, which I think would cause more problems than it would solve. He's not planning on even taking a position on global warming (which is sinking my fucking state), and he believes marijuana is a gateway drug.

On the other hand, I like how he feels about education and guns. Banning abortions after 20 weeks seems fair (from an anti-abortion standing here). I like his views on ISIS.
 
I'm just going to say, Ben Carson makes ridiculous arguments, which even more pronounced for someone who's a retired neuroscientist (like, how can he reject evolution when it's fundamental information for understanding how our brain works? It's mind boggling.). Now, these are just my thoughts, and I don't really feel like making a long argument on politics.

Seriously!? That's full of bull. Climate change is affecting our environment negatively as we speak. It should NOT be brushed aside like that. He's NOT a climatologist so he is in absolutely no position to make stupid claims like this.

Education: No federally-determined standards. We need more school choice.

Strongly disagree. Federally-determined standards ensure we have equal access to quality education. I certainly don't trust states in creating standards for our education, who knows what kind of crap they'll cipher into schools?

Guns: Few limits on ownership except for the mentally ill or those convicted of violent crime.

I'm not going to pretend I know or care a lot about illegal immigration. Same thing with foreign policy about Islamic terrorists and all. I don't support deportation or leaving the country though.

Medical marijuana is just as effective as quack herbal remedies, so no, there is no merit to them. Legalizing for recreational purposes seem fine, but I don't care about this whole issue to be honest.

Yes, gay marriage is legal. It's done and it shouldn't be a hot issue (especially compared to climate change). How can he be a neuroscientist and believe that homosexuality can be controlled or a choice? I'm pro-abortion so I'm not comfortable on restricting abortions, especially when third-trimester abortions are illegal (if I recall correctly). I've heard him say he wants to defund Planned Parenthood, and that's also ridiculous.

Taxes: Establish a flat tax. Eliminate the IRS.

Agree to disagree I suppose. I think the same of people like Obama, but I won't go into specifics because I don't want to spark a debate here. Seldom do those end well.

Anyway, I hope no-one has a problem with me being (mostly) conservative. I believe in being tolerant of other people's beliefs, but many of the people I've encountered on the internet obviously do not feel the same.

I for sure know I don't have a problem, it's nice to see more conservatives in here :) I like to think I'm tolerant of other beliefs, but I'm always in for some political discussion.

Good point. I just see a lot of hate for conservatives on my Facebook news-feed alone (I don't post political things, but many of my friends do), so I wasn't sure how that would be perceived by some here.

Of course, I expect you to disagree with my arguments. I just don't like Ben Carson's ideas at all, especially when he believes in things like creationism, hand-waving global warming, and has demonstrated to be clueless to how Planned Parenthood works. I find it hard to agree to people that are this blatantly on the wrong side of science, and that Ben Carson was a respectable neurosurgeon kind of stings. Other issues he holds, like immigration and legalizing marijuana, I simply disagree since I don't feel it's the best approach, but it's more of a value argument.

But I don't hate any conservative as a person. I just totally disagree with a lot of their arguments. I don't like the Republican Party, but it doesn't mean I don't like you.

BTW, I don't like Obama a lot either. Way too centrist for my tastes.

P.S. just a small fact, my username has nothing to do with politics lol

LOL. Trump is too divisive for my tastes. We need a leader that unites us as a country, and I don't feel he would do that.

For what it's worth, I think the same of Obama. He demonizes people that disagree with him. Nobody wants to work with someone like that. That's why there's such a huge partisan divide right now.

That's just my take though.

That's largely how I am with liberals/Democrats. But you have the right attitude in my opinion; tolerance is important.

I think the partisan divide is due to gridlock between the two parties. Like, Obama wants to do something, Republicans block his efforts. The Republicans want to do something, it gets vetoed. Etc.

The first one doesn't sound too bad. Not exactly demonizing the proposal, just saying that it will result in so-and-so, not exactly, "Republicans want this".

The second video is pretty sketchy, although I can't really make much from it because I don't know its context. Either way, it doesn't sound like he's saying it at face value, although I don't know if it's a good idea to compare something like that. It sounds like Obama is pretty frustrated though.
