Re: TPG's Art & 'Shroom Thread
Here's the individual renders for my Art Contest piece.
Superstar Saga's render took a lot of time to make, mainly due to the fireball thing and the sand creating a lot of lag. I'm proud of how it turned out though!
Those snow-like particles in the PiT render were rendered separately from the rest of the scene. That saved me seven hours of render time, which is always nice. I think the hand guys look pretty decent too. Originally this scene was going to be a 2D drawn one, with the crew bouncing off of Mrs. Thwomp. I went with 3D renders in the end so it would fit with the rest.
Bowser's model looks awesome in this one. The bump maps on the shell are gorgeous, and I was allowed to have two Bowsers in this one! Dark Bowser was just a retextured Bowser, no surprise there.
I like the Dream Team render. I began to use a 'Toon' texture for surfaces, giving the models a cel-shaded look. Many of the models here are my own; the trees, sand, bucket helmets, cannon were all done by yours truly. Obviously the character models aren't mine, they're Nintendo's. They look great anyway!
If I had more time then I definitely would have redone the Paper Jam render, it feels emptier than the others and the textures look kinda meh. I still like the Paper Mario model, which was done by tracing a CS sprite and then extruding it and giving it a papery bump map.
