i haven't given in to turning it back on yet but i'm seriously considering it because combined with the new wild pokemon mechanics leveling things up is actually a challenge

shit i didn't realize that you could only get dewpider during the day and now i'm leveled enough where i don't feel like waiting until morning and then training one up
i suppose i'll be using golisopod this run

also i love crabrawler a lot he's so adorable i want to hug him so much <3

I agree, leveling up to lv 100 was so tedious in B&W. I don't understand why they changed their mind.

ok so I just unlocked Poke Pelago and completely forgot this existed

holy shit this is awesome
it reminds me of that dumb ranch game on the wii but so much better because you can actually do things that benefit you in game

As much as I had seen the Kukui battle coming, it was still fucking hype. It's cool that you don't ever fight a champion, and Kukui is just your first challenger.

Yeah considering the massive step-down from the PokeNav that Rotomdex is, I've pretty much lost all motivation to try and find all the pokemon in Alola this time around until post-game.

Why couldn't they AT LEAST have given us the DexNav feature that lets us see what pokemon we still have left to catch in a certain area? Combined with the live map feature this would have been amazing, but no, we're back to praying we face a trainer with a pokemon we want to find and then looking it up in the dex to see what miniscule patch of grass its available in

On top of that, the rotomdex map is useless as hell because it only shows you a marker for the main story quest and no sidequests like the zygarde cells like why?

anyway my Golisopod is level 40 and just tanked Guzma's Golisopod in Maile Garden so I am now the superior samuraibug trainer

Just beat the game. Here are my thoughts/opinions for those who care:

Note: This is coming right after the Pokemon League. I haven't done the Battle Tree or UB Quest.

Pros
+NO HMs!

+Guzma is amazing. He's also a Bug Pokemon specialist, which is my second favorite type. He has great facial expressions. Best character by far.

+Really great music. The Legendary music is great. The Kahuna theme is great. All of Team Skull's music is great as is Aether's.

+I actually liked all the characters, which are a vast improvement over X/Y.

+Good Bug Pokemon.

+Game got really creepy really fast. Cryogenically freezing Pokemon to preserve them for eternity because you love them is great. Horrorbeast Lusamine and scared shitless Guzma were also great.

Cons

-Alolan Marowak was disappointing. Oh well.

-Pokemon Refresh isn't as good a replacement for Amie as I thought. The grooming stuff is situational and the Poke Beans are currency for another island so you just can't stuff your Pokemon with them. Also the minigames are gone as well as the bottom screen that showed the Pokemon visiting which is disappointing.

-I disliked how Team Skull basically turned out to be Aether's bitch. I was hoping Team Skull would be the misunderstood "evil team" who were actually saving the Pokemon from the true evil team, but that wasn't the case.

-I felt there should have been more to Guzma's character. I love him, but he was underdeveloped, as was Plumeria. We have Guzma actually knowing Kukui (possibly used to be friends? idk) but that's only there for one scene and that's it. Neither mention the other after that. This can also be said for Wicke and probably Faba too.

-Parts of the story felt rushed. You only meet the Aether employees once before you go back to kick their asses and I don't think Guzma or Plumeria had as much screen time as I wanted. The fourth island was also spectacularly short.

-A lot of the new Pokemon are stupidly rare or locked behind bullshit. Type: Null is locked behind an event near the end of the game (or at the end of the game I haven't bothered to get him yet), Wimpod has a 5% chance of appearing in a certain area and it leaves immediately, Stufful only has a 5% of appearing in a certain area, Mimikyu is a 5% chance in one specific area, Mareanie only appears when a Corsola calls it to battle and that's a 1% chance in its own right, I don't even know where dhelmise is, etc.

-The regional Pokedex isn't near as good as X/Y's imo. So many Gen I goobers.

And my biggest complaint:

-Breeding Pokemon seems like it's going to be a huge chore for many reasons.
--There's no straight or continuous circular path like X/Y/ORAS meaning you can't just stick a dime under the 3ds and let it go to work.
--Super Training and Horde battling is gone. Getting easy EVs is going to be a big chore.
--EXP gain is shit and back to the Gen V curve. There aren't even Audino, Blissey, or Chansey bases/trainers to destroy and no EXP+ O Powers either. I know the Festival Plaza has stuff to help with EXP, but I have yet to unlock it.
--The IV training isn't as great as I was hoping and is only usable by level 100 Pokemon. Good luck grinding the Pokemon you want to IV train with this EXP system.
--Easy evolutionary item getting is gone. Now I have to grind BP for those items. Hopefully, they add the minigames that were in X/Y PGL to mitigate this. Yes, I know about Pelago, but that's in real time. It also takes 24 hours and you might not even get the items you need/want.


I know a lot of people give 0 shits about breeding Pokemon, but it's probably one of my favorite parts of the game. Honestly, I'm just going to stick to Gen VI to breed Pokemon via the Matsuda method and then transfer them to Moon once I can. It'll be a lot less painful this way.

I know I have a lot of negatives on there, but overall, I really liked the game; I just think it was hindered from reaching its full potential. There's probably more I'm missing for both pros and cons, but I can't be arsed to think too hard about it.

yeah honestly this is my biggest problem with the game, at the start i was like "i'm totally gonna use toxapex" but then i saw how fucking absurdly difficult it was to get mareanie and i just gave up on that

the whole "sos-exclusive" gimmick is absolute bullshit

Corsola has a 20% chance in the 'special' spots (swirly water I think) in two areas and they don't disappear if you save and reset, so you can just keep fishing there until you get Corsola and then force a Mareanie out with False Swipe + adrenaline orb. Dhelmise is pretty much the same except without the SOS call, a different area and only a 10% encounter rate. Feebas and Bruxish are found in similar ways I think, maybe some others too. Still may take a while but it increases the chances drastically.
