lol

just because the game isn't the second coming of TTYD it doesn't mean that it's automatically a horrible game. removing all other paper mario games from the equation, this looks like a fun game with nice graphics. you can clearly see that they've taken some feedback from sticker star, like having more than just generic toads as NPCs, and adding a benefit to battling that isn't coins.

she wasnt really saying it was *bleep*, she was stating that a lot of people think its *bleep* for petty reasons and wont shutup about them.

yeah, you got my point exactly zae

btw i actually think that tyd is worse than the original 64 paper mario anyway

I will have to say that TTYD was Paper Mario to its perfection, Super Paper Mario was like Castlevania: SOTN + 2D Mario + Mega Man X7 (with ability to flip between 2D and 3D) and the TTYD artstyle blended together in a great way.

>perfection

pls

ttyd was nice but i swear there were moments where i really wanted to drop the game, although i almost did with the shadow queen fight. it literally did a very similar final fight from mother 2.

if people like ttyd then fine but as far as i can tell its insanely overrated. its literally the ff7 of mario rpgs.

Seems legit.

Anyway Zae, TTYD happens to be my favorite Mario game of all time, and I completely understand why it is lauded as much as it is. Its got some parts that are genuinely awful, but for me the good parts more than make up for the bullshit.

Pls don't kill me.

its fine to like it, but i honestly cant see it as perfect, well then again i dont believe anything is perfect.

Even if i was a raging dragon girl about it i still love you edo.

Well, no, it's not perfect at all. It's got a lot of problems, like all that luck-based shit in the battles? The bingo that can screw you over? That godawful fucking fog that cuts your accuracy and that appears in later levels almost every time you use an explosion or a strong hammer attack? And then there's the General White thing which, even though I don't mind it as much as other people do, is still pretty dumb.

It's not perfect, but that's not a bad thing at all. That means it can still be improved and spawn concepts that build on the strong points they've already got going, and make an experience that is even better.

Unfortunately, Intelligent Systems seems to have given up on all of that.

First one is still the best.

I still haven't played the first Paper Mario but TTYD remains my favorite Mario RPG. I agree that the fog is pretty BS. I can't hate the bingo too much because I got a Shine Sprite bingo during my fight with the Shadow Queen that kept me alive. Might be why I never died against her.

If you're talking about the getting a Shine during the final phase of her fight at the beginning, that's scripted. If not, then you got lucky.

The biggest flaws off ttyd for me were the majority of the stage/audience stuff, the entirety of Twilight Trail, and the General White chase. Still a fantastic game otherwise.

the tacky audience gimmick was the main reason i prefer 64's battle system. i just don't like it too much.

The audience could be kind of shitty and I absolutely hate the fog gimmick, but to be honest I take all of that over the "partners don't have HP and attacks paralyze them" shit and the fact that it takes forever for your star energy to recharge. Tying it to the success of your action commands and have it scale with your level was a much better idea and special moves are so much more usable because of it.

I think the core idea of the audience was nice - if you do action commands well, including hidden "stylish" ones the audience comes in and gives you the Star Energy you need to use the special moves, while if you do badly the audience goes away and you cannot charge Star Energy. Furthermore, leveling up increases rank which means you can increase Star Energy even more rapidly if you do everything well.
Of course, there were many random aspects in this, especially with the Bulky Bob-ombs, Crazee Dayzees and the Boos. I consider these a controversial idea, as they are essentially based on luck, but I still think without the luck-based elements such a system would be nice.

you know i never use the star powers, i never need them, so uh yeah.

although yeah the partner thing in 64 sucks, but i still love the shit out of it, while ttyd makes me think twice.

Honestly, it wouldn't even be that bad if you could prevent it when it happens. Kind of like how you can stop the audience from throwing shit at you. If a prompt came up and you could just boot the offending audience member out before they explode/sing/run on stage/turn the enemy invisible, it would be fine.

I'm the opposite. I would replay TTYD in a heartbeat, whereas there's too much stuff I don't like in the original that could sour the experience for me.

It's still a good game, mind you. I've just got mixed feelings about a lot of things in it.

Still not sure why the plot seems to be trying to hide who morton's master is.

We all know who morton works for.

You're all wrong. They're going to finally introduce Paper Wario and Paper Waluigi, who will be the main antagonists of the game.

tbh I hate the fog gimmick and the random scenery and bucket drops and whatever so much that i'd prefer the lesser evil of the stunned partner thing to it.

I don't really use star energy that often either aside from using Skolar's shooting star thing, which is a guaranteed, piercing, low-cost 7 hit move that's amazing.

I also like the environments in the original Paper Mario more. It feels more open and less...hall-way-y if you get my drift. I'm not too sure about the amount of time-wasters though.

I enjoy 64's soundtrack more too, especially the battle music. I'm not really all that fond of Thousand-Year Door's battle music tbh, it's not as catchy and upbeat as the original's.

All of this could be my nostalgia speaking though...

I love TTYD's music and it is awesome. Paper Mario 64 gave me nightmares about Peach's Castle being ripped from the ground and induces me to play Castlevania X68000 (Castlevania Chronicles) and Super Metroid. It makes me think of SMG1's opening.

I definitely agree with you.

And it has like the best Bowser theme ever, after his 64 incarnation.
