I'm curious as to why they chose GTA 3 when San Andreas was more influential and popular, but I agree with the other choices.

I've never heard of this game before, and I can barely find any information about it online. Not that my thoughts have much weight, but it seems odd that it went head-to-head with games like Street Fighter II, Oregon Trail, Sonic the Hedgehog, Minecraft, and so many more famous games.

I looked it up, and Nürburgring was the first ever 3D arcade driving game ever made, way back in 1975.

Atari later copied and sold it for their 2600 in the US as Night Driver.

I hope Donkey Kong Country gets in sometime in the future. I think it would meet all the criteria (Icon Status, Longevity, Geographical Reach, Influence).

I imagine Donkey Kong, Mortal Kombat, Pokemon Red and Green, Microsoft Windows Solitaire, Street Fighter II, and Resident Evil will get in, not because the others are bad, but because they didn't shape the industry quite like these six did.

It's about time Donkey Kong gets its recognition (Plus, Mario will have two entries in that list!). Of course, Pokemon deserves its recognition too.

Wii Sports is the oddest nominee, and for that reason, I think it should be one of the inductees.

Is it specified that inductees have to be objectively good? If not, it'd be hilarious to see a game like Atari E.T. getting inducted.

It isn't, actually. The basic criteria for induction are Icon Status, Longevity, Geographical Reach, and Influence.
Is it widely recognized and remembered? Most definitely.
Has it enjoyed popularity over time? I don't know about "enjoyed", but it definitely has remained widely known.
Is the above true across international borders? This I'm not so sure about. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial was only released in North America, and the Video Game Crash only affected the North American video game market. I'd say no on this one.
Has it influenced game design and development, or pop culture in general? Most certainly, as an example of why you shouldn't rush a hyped up game.
It might be a stretch to say it could get inducted, but there are definitely worse choices.

They are running a poll on the website's main page (although you can only pick one option instead of six like mine), so I'm guessing this is how they decide the inductees.

There you are, ladies and germs. The Class of 2017. We got Donkey Kong, Street Fighter II, Pokémon Red and Green, and Halo: Combat Evolved. Guess they only inducted four games this year. Guess the other 8 weren't ready yet. Sucks that Final Fantasy VII couldn't make it, but I won't lose too much sleep over it. There's always next year.
