2001: A Mario Odyssey

"Mario doesn't give a BLEEP about continuity"

*The crowd cheers ;D*

"Mario is a character so I'm sure he cares about his adventures, his developers (Nintendo) are the one's not caring about continuity in his adventures, but I agree with you"

*Mobs and pitchforks *

:???:

I didn't know strawmen had the ability to cheer and carry pitchforks.

we ain't mobbing you, dude. dont know where thats coming from

im just not sure what having a rigid continuity would lend to Mario games, especially when the franchise is over 30 years old

if anything, i think it would make the series worse, with them having to stifle their creativity so they can adhere to things previous games have established

imagine if in mario odyssey they were forced to insert every location from previous mario titles along with the new ones, the map would look downright unruly

even just using games from the mario series' first 11 years gives us this awkward behemoth

Super Mario Odyssey already showcases off Mario continuity and legacy: by using the gameplay concepts first introduced in the previous Mario games and expanding and improving on it. We wouldn't have gotten the Cascade Kingdom if it weren't for the designers and developers first experimenting with Bob-omb Battlefield and gaining feedback. Most of those Mario moves from previous titles are put to use in this game.

Also, your statement, "Mario is a character so I'm sure he cares about his adventures". Yeah, nice headcanon bro. It's not any more special than my headcanon where those RPG locations may as well not exist.

The only continuity this series needs is a nice little wink and a nod or some recognizable landmarks, like Peach's castle.

Other than that, fuck it.

A lot of that map's awkwardness really comes down to the artist not knowing/remembering enough about Mario's settings. :P

I just figure that the Mario series has just enough continuity that certain things (usually pertaining to the characters themselves) remain consistent while everything is very modular. Thus all the Mario games technically happen, it's just that the status quo is rarely shaken up aside from someone new joining the fold.
The only exception I make for this rule is that original Paper Mario trilogy is completely separated from the most recent 2-3 games, not out of disrespect for Sticker Star, Paper Jam, and Color Splash, but the fact that pretty much everything about those settings are entirely different from each other (the design of Mario's house, the self-awareness of the characters being made of Paper, Kammy not existing/Kamek, Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings existing, etc) due to the latter 3 being more a literal paper version of the Mushroom Kingdom.

The motion control in this suck all the asses

Agreed, doesn't need to be in there at all.

he's having fun with and without being in BeanBean Kingdom or Sarasaland

hell, he even had fun that one time where he's forced community labor, confined in some sludge bile for an island, for a crime he didn't do and without proper due process (and a lawyer) that'd otherwise protect him.

The Jump Rope Genius moon is a pain in a neck.

It's the one moon in New Donk City that I haven't got yet and it's starting to bug me a little bit, I've been going at it on and off again for awhile now but so far I've only managed to get sixty jumps in a row once and haven't came close to it since. The early jumps are manageable but when things kick into maximum overdrive around forty-ish is usually where I tend to flub it.

You should try to short hop by very lightly pressing on the jump button. And then, once you take advantage of short hop, you just need to get a rhythm going, like pressing the hop button right when the jumprope hits the ground or when the women vocalize, something like that. IMO, getting in the very first jump is the most difficult part of the challenge for me, but it's definitely doable without cheesing it.

As how I remembered it, I used the sound of the jump rope smacking the ground as a guide of when to jump.

I'm surprised by how much Rayman-style gibberish this has compared to previous games

tbh I think it's a missed opportunity for DLC packs, since this game is so huge and these days, people always want more, especially if a game is amazing.

I don't think the Glydon exploit for Farther Side is going to be patched because there is an area at the end you can't normally reach, and it has coin stacks on there.

I don't expect any content updates either, I just don't have that feeling, but if there are, good then? It's already fine enough on their own. I'd like to see Luigi and more costumes. :P

The Frog Skip Glitch and the Talkatoo glitch do need addressing. And there's another small thing that I want to be altered with amiibo. When you scan Rosalina and Rosalina + Luma in the English version of the game, Uncle amiibo says Rosalina and Rosalina, which is stupid.

Everybody's been talking about bringing back Isle Delfino and Beanbean Kingdom as DLC, which is cool, but I'd firstly
prefer to have full-fledged levels and locales developed for locations like the Cloud Kingdom and Ruined Kingdom,
which were basically just arenas.

I wanna see a carnival or circus based kingdom. Or a combination of the two. I wanna capture a large circus animal and unleash its rage on the unsuspecting performers and audience.

It's a shame Bowser's Kingdom was the oriental chinese place because Bowser Land DLC would be pretty cool.
