Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Even though I expected Rayman or that girl from the opening cutscene, I think DK is the perfect choice for the new character, considering he's a dumb ape (Which I'm sure goes perfectly with Rabbid humor) and he used a banana as a boomerang. How clever of Ubisoft!

The best part of the reveal trailer was when he KO'd Rabbid Peach at the end. That was pretty hilarious.

Also, I am getting this game pretty soon. I think it'll be cute, charming, and great, and the visuals are reminiscent of a modern Universal/Dreamworks film, despite looking like Amiibo plastic.

Hmm, guess they delayed the DLC. Oh well.

I like :dk: and all, and I get that he is marketable as DLC, but I think Daisy or even Rosalina would synergise a lot better with the cast...

Oh well. This makes me hope that we get a nice sequel with an extended cast and lots of nice QoL improvements like choosing your entire party!

...

:(

Of course you would.

Also DK isn't just being added. He's the star of this DLC. To the point that you'll apparently be able to buy it standalone or as an addon.

Seems like DK will only be in the story expansion and not in the main game, unlike say...Daisy in Mario Run.

The jungle Smasher chasing Rabbid Peach with some sort of jungle Ziggys in the Nintendo direct mini trailer is way too big compared to its game model.

Also shouldn't this still be pinned? It actually has a reason to be unlike some of the other stuff up there.

I read a bit of that article and I read a bit of the older posts in thread.

Good lord we acted like dramatic fools who cry Armageddon, in hindsight.

I'm glad the game turned out the way it is, an excellent and a worthy addition to the Mario franchise IMO, not crash and burn. Hope they make more including a sequel. I'm also so glad the developers put quite a bit of heart and passion to it, it makes me feel bad we acted this way.

What a ride.

One of the best spin offs I've played in quite sometime.

The article said:
The only break arriving in the form of lunch, which incredibly, is signalled by the Mario theme playing throughout the building. They then play the Zelda theme to let everyone know when it's over. Seriously.
That's hilarious.

I would like to see a sequel to this game because from what I saw, there are many obvious issues that need to be addressed.

Weapon balance

In this game, the weapons are stronger the further you progress through. This seems fine on the surface until you realise that only one or two weapons are worth using. Why would you even download the weapon DLC when you can one-shot enemies with a Kite Commando in World 1, or be demolished by Bwario and Bwaluigi if you use the Crown Jewel? XCOM in comparison has different weapon types that are balanced so that one type doesn't feel overpowered, but each type has its own distinct strengths and weaknesses. It also makes the amiibo functionality useless.

Character parties

The game forces you to pick Mario and one rabbid. This was not due to any licensing reasons, but it was because of balancing. I feel like if the enemies were built around having any team composition then this would not be an issue. Maybe the ability can be reworked to support this as Rabbid Luigi is clearly overpowered with his Vampire ability. Yoshi is stupidly powerful too.

Characters

This game had more characters than I initially expected it to have, but :daisy: :rosalina: are not present at all. The lack of a playable Daisy stopped me from buying the game on Switch...which is a shame as I used to love the Rabbids and I even watched Rabbids Invasion. Other crossovers such as Mario and Sonic had a much more well rounded and satisfying character roster.

Also, some characters like Yoshi are acquired far too late into the game, and Donkey Kong can't even be used in the majority of the game's content, not even co-op or VS mode for some reason. Bwario and Bwaluigi are also just regular Rabbids with a Hero ability and lots of HP....and special clothes. Bowser is in one battle and not mentioned again.

Resolution

The game is not native 720p on the Switch's screen, so it looks a bit washed out and blurry. Which is a shame as the game looks beautiful otherwise. Going from Mario Tennis Aces to this game on the handheld is not going to be pretty, which is another reason why I held off.

I have currently beaten World 1-5, which means I have unlocked Luigi so far. I wonder what sort of advantages Luigi has, to make up for his ridiculously low HP, which is much lower than Rabbid Luigi (the lowest before Luigi). I guess he has several techniques similar to Mario? I imagine that because Mario is a requirement (which I don't mind anyway: Mario's awesome), they made Mario have an edge that makes him versatile.

The game's giving me an easy time so far, what with being able to beat levels within the Perfect turn limit. I wonder what sort of challenges awaits...

Thank you for reading.

He is a sniper so keep him quite far from the enemies.

Current progress: beaten level 2-5, which also unlocks Rabbid Mario.

After beating the World 1 boss, the game felt like it clicked with me, which I expected because I know more options will open up. It's fun to go through a few of the World 1 challenges, even though I have to stop at the 7th challenge because Medium is apparently too difficult for me.

I must say that Rabbid Mario is a very good character mainly for his very powerful Dash, so I upgraded Rabbid Mario's Dash the most, and his weapon is quite powerful so I got the Vamp version of that weapon.

Thank you for reading.

My progress so far: beaten the whole of World 3, along with the first 8 Challenges.

Once I unlocked Rabbid Mario, the game's not too difficult at that point. In fact, the Medium Challenges in World 1 becomes a whole lot more manageable with Rabbid Mario around due to his powerful Dash and short-range attacks that hit multiple targets.

Although the game's labeled several of the challenges as difficult, with the Rabbid characters on my side, there's no failing them. In fact, their ability to dash multiple times is why they are incredibly useful, although Luigi came in handy for his movement sometimes. I was surprised when I cleared the first "Supa Hard" challenge the first time, which is the one where you face the 4 Mid-Bosses at once (along with some enemies.

I must admit that I have a lot of close calls, such as one Challenge where there are 3 areas that you need to reach and a whole bunch of enemies, including a bunch of Spooky Smashers. My instinct is to clear them all, which is why Rabbid Mario is important for his Magnet Dance. After dashing a few of the enemies and luring them, Rabbid Luigi weaken them, then Rabbid Mario smash most of them with a Hammer, in which the Smashers did their reactionary work by clearing a few among them. Rabbid Luigi then fire the Bazooka, which also burned Rabbid Mario and leaving him with 2 HP after the burn. After that, with no enemies, I have 3 free turns to reach all the areas.

After I have unlocked all the Rabbid characters (regular Yoshi is still not unlocked), I kind of feel that some of our Mario characters make fine substitutes for the Rabbid characters. For the record, I know that the Rabbids have personalities with something to like, but what I am basically saying is that the playstyle for each Rabbid fits the established Mario cast very well.
- Rabbid Mario's playstyle fits Wario well with his powerful Dash and short range attacks
- Rabbid Luigi's playstyle fits Waluigi well with his defensive playstyle and trickiness (his weapons have high status chance), which tends to be Waluigi specialty in most spin-offs
- Rabbid Peach's playstyle fits Rosalina well mainly for the healing and barrier
- Rabbid Yoshi's playstyle fits Bowser Jr. well due to the scream that scares people away, but since he's a villain...
You know, if that's the case I wouldn't mind having Mario team up with Wario and Waluigi from time to time, since I find Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Luigi to be trusty characters in many challenges.

I haven't unlocked Yoshi yet, but I must ask: how is Yoshi "stupidly powerful"?

Thank you for reading.

I don't recall people saying Yoshi is powerful. In fact, I hear people say you get it way too late in the game for it to be "stupidly powerful".

I've beaten the final boss, and boy was the final boss incredibly tense. It's the only level where I got a Bronze statue a Rabbid chasing his overalls (I think it's Rabbid Mario since he has overalls, but I don't remember a moustache on that statue). However, I am still not done with the game, for there are MORE challenges! My progress is that I have beaten 2 challenges in the final level, and I'm surprised that the first challenge is tucked away after the second cannon point, which is bizarre since the other levels are more evenly spread.

Since I got a chance to use every character, I'll go over my opinions about them:

(Note: Overwatch = Character automatically attacking enemies when they move; Dump stat = A portion of a skill tree that is low priority that I didn't invest in for other higher priority skills)

Mario: I think Mario's a very good character to have in the party at all times, and that's a good thing since he's a mandatory pick. He's rather versatile so there's not a time when he's useless. In fact, his support abilities are very useful: M-Power is a great power-up tool and Mario's Overwatch is on par with Luigi's since his shots are powerful and gets to go twice. Unfortunately he can't activate both at once, but I guess that would be overpowered. His Dash is pretty good since it's the second-strongest, and combined with his Stomp Jump, is one of the better movement damage-dealers and can cover a lot of ground at the same time. He also has a Mushroom Power-up in his Skill Tree, which is very easily forgone since it's the least useful, but at the same time, Mario's got to build up his other abilities more quickly. The only thing I didn't quite like about Mario is his more limited movement range compared to other characters.

Luigi: When I first checked Luigi's stats, I am baffled at his ridiculously low HP, which is incredibly low compared to every character, even the future characters. When it was pointed out to me that he's supposed to be a sniper, it made more sense to me. When I get to use Luigi, I am impressed by not only his attack range, but also how easily he moves around the field. In fact, he's practically essential in most of the "Reach the Area" and "Escort" levels since he covers a lot of ground and make the escortee move further. His Overwatch ability is also great since it has the shortest cooldown and can shoot thrice, so it has the potential to cause status effects more often than not. I feel that between Rabbid Peach and Luigi, the Sentry is more useful from Luigi. Itchy Feet has a theoretically useful support, but I didn't use it because I am not sure it extends to pipes, which appears more often in later levels, even though I upgraded it to have less cooldown and cover more ground. Whereas Mario's dump stat is the Mushroom, for Luigi it's his Dash since his other abilities are better-suited despite me wishing the Dash is stronger. Essentially Luigi is a great character to have but his drawback requires more careful play.

Peach: Unlike Luigi, what surprised me about Peach is how much HP she has, which is totally unexpected since I don't remember Peach having high HP in Super Mario RPG. Certainly Peach has a great healing move and powerful short-range weaponry (not to mention an ability that can absorb damage from others), but I didn't really have much use for Peach even though the battle where you are required to use her demonstrates why she's useful. When I think about it, her support abilities aren't as useful to me compared to other characters, since her Protection still do damage to her and requires heroes to be at close range, while her Overwatch comes from a short-ranged weapon (incidentally, Overwatch is Peach's dump stat). When I get to use Peach, she proves to be indispensable because of the healing and powerful gun. I think it's due to how Peach's weaponry have status effects that I didn't really care for (Freeze and Burn), especially Freeze. Even then, perhaps I should use Peach a bit more often since healing is one of the best things to have.

Yoshi: Yoshi has not struck me as an overpowered character, but I like that Yoshi has the Ground Pound, which does hefty damage at a range, so like Mario, Yoshi can do movement damage twice, but a bit more effectively and dangerously. I like that Yoshi has a Rumblebang (machine gun weapon) which is a great damage-dealing weapon, and that complements nicely with his Overwatch even though it charges rather long despite being powerful. His other ability is theoretically useful, but I never really used it since Super Chances happen fairly often, though I should use it since it complements nicely with Rabbid Mario's weapons with Stone, the most useful status effect. Yoshi is definitely great to have but I feel I never used him to full effect. By the way, my dump stat for Yoshi is the Super Chance, though not to the same extent as the other ones mentioned.

Rabbid Peach: When Rabbid Peach is one of the only characters to have she is not bad. In fact, she is quite useful since she is the only one with a healing move. Unfortunately, other characters turned out to be more useful despite Rabbid Peach's similar versatility to Mario and having the Sentry (in my opinion the most useful secondary weapon). Her Barrier is also pretty good to have since it takes weapon damage with ease. I feel that if it weren't for Mario being mandatory, then Rabbid Peach would shine since she's a similar jack-of-all-trades, and I rarely have a need for another one when other characters have something useful to contribute that Mario nor the other characters have, except for the healing. For example, Luigi also has a Sentry, but he also has long range and Overwatch, while Rabbid Peach's weapon is similar to Mario's.

Rabbid Luigi: I love using Rabbid Luigi because he has a strong Dash, and a fully-upgraded Rabbid Luigi has the most useful Dash in the game for the Vamp effect, which is a great healing tech for other characters and himself (he is almost never KO'ed). His weapons are the weakest among them all, but later on the high chance of Super Effect makes him indispensable for disabling opponents since Rabbid Luigi is one of the few characters with Stone (Rabbid Mario is the other). If you don't know what Stone does, it completely skips that character's turn so it's one less thing they are able to do. Even better is that Rabbid Luigi's abilities have a 1-turn cooldown once fully upgraded, and both have apparent advantages that are always useful to have. His low power isn't much of an issue when Rabbid Luigi does a lot of great things, and he's one of my go-to characters.

Rabbid Mario: Once I unlocked Rabbid Mario, every World 1 Challenge suddenly allowed me to stand a chance. Yes, Rabbid Mario is that great. The thing that impressed me about Rabbid Mario is how every attack all have ranged damage, even the Dash. Because of this, his Magnet Dance has incredible synergy with all of them. Later in the game there are a lot of enemies which pretty much cemented Rabbid Mario as the go-to character for such an occasion. His Shield isn't as useful as the other Rabbids, but once it can absorb 30% of weapon damage it's nice to have. Certainly Rabbid Mario has all-around low range (even compared to Peach), but his high power makes him one of my most indispensable allies.

Rabbid Yoshi: I feel that Rabbid Yoshi's best quality is how quickly it moves around, which complements his ability to Dash the most times. His Rumblebang is also really good to have since the variable damage is more often than not to my advantage. Moreover, his abilities are very useful and have low cooldown, such as activating Overwatches and sometimes making aiming enemies easier, while his Shield absorbs a lot of damage since Rabbid Yoshi is rarely attacked multiple times. Much like Luigi, Rabbid Luigi and Rabbid Mario, I feel that all of Rabbid Yoshi's moves have noticeable advantages that make him worth using sometimes.

Indeed Yoshi is recruited incredibly late in the game so he might be viewed as powerful, but when I used Yoshi, it's on a similar level with other characters. In fact, my go-to are still pretty much Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Luigi, the next being Rabbid Yoshi and Luigi.
