Mario Kart Tour

i love half-assed recolor paint jobs being sold as a "high end" racer.
it's a natural progression from an earlier full-assed paint job

more like LOW end amirite

They really want to make that atrocious Gold Pass have any sort of value for five bucks, that, I'll remind you again, that can get you a whole library of great games off Apple Arcade.

This is easily the worst Mario game of all time. Don't think any game would come close. At the very least, Mario is Missing and Hotel Mario doesn't try to nickel and dime you at every opportunity it does.

You know there is this thing called PROFIT? and without purchases they cant make PROFIT.

The poor multi-million international corporation can make profits off their F2P model without resorting to in-game gambling mechanics and solution-selling and gating off content with over-priced subscription models.

Or, they can sell games like, you know, ACTUAL games that just ask for a small upfront price and you get to enjoy the rest of the game without a convoluted BS currency system, just saying.

The microtransactions are considered part of PROFIT.

These IAPs are getting out of hand
It's actually pretty standard fare for free to play economies. If you think that's bad, a lot worse exist out there. It's not to excuse this game, but just to say, this bullshit's been going on for a really long time already. We just don't really experience much of it because we don't tend to play the so-called "AAA" games and Nintendo has mostly kept their games free of that crap.

Also, if you think it's bad in a free to play game, there are many console games by big publishers that have this exact same economy, and they still go for $60 dollars and that doesn't include paid expansion packs. Again, I worry that Nintendo imports their mobile practices to console, knowing they can get away with it in mobile. It's far more profitable to just half-ass a game and get a few unlucky prey part with sometimes thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars than to develop a complete game and have a one-time payment model. Like why have people pay once for a game rather when you can swindle "recurrent user spending" from the "whales"?

The microtransactions are considered part of PROFIT.
There's a *very* good reason minors can't participate in a casino.

I mean, when I look at Mario Kart 8 for Wii U that for like 60 € + DLC (weren't they like 12 € for 16 tracks + drivers and vehicle parts?) got you unlimited multiplayer without paywalls the Nintendo Switch Online first and this are now in a wholly different light: NSO makes you pay double the value of that game in little more than 4 years (60 € + 20 € X 4 = 140, very near to 72 € X 2 = 144 €) , MKT Gold Pass makes you pay double the value of that game in little more than 2 years (5.5 € X 27 = 148.5 €, more than 144 €).
There's a reason why companies love subscriptions!

Going by this trend, the next Mario Kart might be fun in its own very peculiar way...

plus regular micropayments ensure you're gonna lose track of them, sorta like the insidious microtransactions. a lot of people are subscribed to services they don't even use, and the fees add up very quickly.

I legitimately hate how low-effort these costumes are. It's not like we don't have characters such as Baby Rosalina or Pink Gold Peach in console games who are variants of variants, but to charge money for them is highway robbery. Grinding isn't anything new in mobile games, but the problem is there isn't anything worthwhile to grind TO.

And the same goes tenfold for Dr. Mario World. You would think they wouldn't need to rely on the same 10 or so characters for a Mario gacha game considering how uber-expansive the cast is, but no.

The gacha system creates a damned if you do damned if you do situation regarding characters. On one hand if the characters ARE unique, people need to spend money for it to spin the slots for them. One the other hand, if they're bad recolor jobs, they're lazy and something you still have to spin the slots for. Removal of the f2p system would remove all concerns I have for characters but as long as characters are randomized loot and are hard to obtain due to the grind, as long as Mario Kart Tour keeps updating with interesting new content that is unfortunately tied behind this exploitative system, I'll keep talking about it.

idk about you but I'd be much more willing to take my chances if there were more unique characters available rather than just costume / recolor variants of existing ones.

It's still scummy but it's like a lesser of two evils situation imo

(Didn't bother reading all 27 pages of text, so...)
My dad found out a while ago (I meant to start playing, but never got into it.) that the standard mode wasn't even multiplayer, and I think Nintendo said it would be. And now the truth is out.

But seriously, they are running out of ideas. While the Wicked Bros. alt. outfits are neat, some of these guys exist only in this game.

Last night I dreamed that Birdo got a cute cheerleader costume. More creative than recoloring Mario and Luigi.

That a London-based Tour is named after an unrelated baby character is... unexplicable?

Is it some in-game joke since Baby Rosalina is unrelated to the actual young Rosalina of the storybook and therefore the perfect unrelated character?

They wanted to artificially add depth to a made-up deviantart character who has no business to exist.
