Mario things that "don't look Mario"

You know that's weird.

I thought I was looking at Ridley for a second. And he is not a Mario character, so...
 
To me, there are two kinds of "not looking/feeling Mario." The "whoa this is unexpected and cool to see in a Mario game" and the "this is unsettling, out of place and/or doesn't sit right with me."

The Ruined Dragon from Odyssey and Super Paper Mario's characters and lore are the former IMO.

And there's the opposite category, "tries too hard to stay within the often-limited bounds of established Mario so it's hardly allowed to set itself apart" which as far as I'm concerned includes the majority of modern Paper Mario
 
It might be an unpopular opinion, but I think the Japanese DS commercials where the Japanese person cosplayed as Luigi didn't look quite like Mario.

When I revived this thread, that's the one I mentioned, although I called that one a "dragon" instead of "Lord of Lightning".

And idk if it's even intentional.

Though most of the humor from the Mario cartoons are unintentional.
