Given that we have on of these threads for movies and games, it would make sense to have on for literature as well. Novels, graphic novels, scripts, comic books, etc.

The book I most recently read is In a House of Lies, by Ian Rankin. It's pretty good so far, about halfway through.

Game of Thrones - Chapter 1: Bran
Theodore is more of a jerk in the books than I remember from the TV series. Aside from the disturbing killings, an adorable puppy moment happens. This chapter seems to mostly align with the TV series.
I'm brought to awareness of Jon Snow's awesomeness even at only age 14.

Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Hammer of Thor
This is a pretty good book so far, it's nice to see some of the other characters aside from Magnus like Hearthstone be fleshed out a bit more, although so far Hearth's backstory is probably the best part of the book as otherwise I'd still put it a bit below the Percy Jackson books
 
His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass - Chapter 6: The Throwing Nets
After Lyra sneaks out of the hotel escaping the Oblation Board, she faces more danger downtown. A rich man in a top hat tried to drug her but she scared him away by telling him her dad is a professional murderer, and then some men tried to catch her in nets but luckily was rescued by some Romani traveler friends from her hometown that recognized her. It turns out their objectives are the same, heading north to rescue the kids captured by the Oblation Board.
 
Marie Antoinette: The Journey

Been slowly reading through this biography about her, actually borrowed it as an ebook from the library, but ended up buying it at Barnes & Noble (cuz I was gonna buy it anyways) and I actually prefer the physical copy since it does stuff like have notes explaining some stuff at the bottom of the relevant pages (instead of at the back of the book), has some images (that may have been in the ebook too, but I didn't see them and I wasn't gonna try and find them), etc. It's pretty interesting, IIRC it's considered by some as being the best modern English biography about her.

Also the book made me learn that British people use Maria Teresa instead of Maria Theresa. Huh.
 
The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer.

It's a really great book about a clone in a dystopian future. Also, there's a good number of different ethnic groups leading, so there's that. I can't really say much without spoilers, though.
 
I started on Icebreaker very recently since it seemed like an interesting mix of competition and same-sex romance, especially since the adjective for the latter is less common. The book seems to have some good ideas so far like the jerk character's cronies not being one-dimensional, but it's still really soon in.

The Martian by Andy Weir.

I need to stop rereading this book. It's THAT good. Basically, it's about a NASA astronaut who gets stranded on Mars after being assumed dead, and now he has to survive the perils of Mars while NASA desperately races to bring him back home.

It's very well written and snarky, and you can't shake the feeling that this could all actually happen.

The book seems to be getting more heavy-handed about its romance despite continuing to have the good ideas positive

I wish that there was more romance and not just list involved in this book, but maybe they'll add that. But at least it's still interesting, but it has an occasional flaw.

I just started reading "Once Upon a Dream", an entry in the Disney "Twisted Tale" series, which re-imagines classic movies but on a "what-if" twist that puts them on a darker path; in this case, for "Sleeping Beauty" what if the Prince fell asleep right BEFORE he got to kiss Aurora? Now it's up to our fair maiden to navigate her own nightmare and escape the curse on her own.
 
Finished book 2. IMO, it's better than 1 though admittedly 1 had to start building the world while 2 started to explore it.

Also, fuck Lockhart. All my homies hate Lockhart.
 
I finished reading Icebreaker around a week ago and found it to be more good than bad with some characters I liked, including the main character's boyfriend, Jaysen, as well as Dorian and Nova, and finding it to have good pacing and thought-provoking themes. Although
I wish there was more emphasis on romantic dating compared to it being more sexual than anything else, and I found it to be selfish that iirc at one point Mickey intentionally doesn't do as well at a big hockey game because that would mean Jaysen shined too, even with their rivalry
There were also some characters I found boring like Barbie, and every now and then it's a bit sledgehammery even with its premise.

This is a neat book showing so far the rise of certain studios and animation development. I read only usually two pages each session right now because of work and that it's an intense (but fun) subject.

Now I know what "Bury the Hatchets" and "One Bird in the band's worth two in the bush" mean!
 
Am currently very obsessively rereading the ballad of songbirds and snakes (the hunger games prequel book) partly because I'm doing a school assignment on it and also cause I felt like rereading it after finishing rereading the original trilogy
