Couldn't Mario just drive to Bowser's castle to save the princess every time?

Do those LOOK like roads he traverses over? He'd probably have to abandon the car after like, one level.
 
Really look into all those landscapes, I doubt driving is an efficient way. It'd be just rally driving.

Airships like Odyssey would probably be nice.

Aside from that we might have to argue why weapons aren't used, seems like Gadd is always on vacation outside LM now.
 
Even ignoring the landscapes or assuming Mario's car is equipped to handle them. Where TF is he gonna park it at Bowser's Castle and expect it to be exactly in the place and condition he left it after rescuing Peach?

... though that's kind of what happened with the Star Cruiser in Paper Mario, so idk.

In Color Splash, but in the original Paper Mario you just kinda leave your vehicle in the clown car hangar unattended

though it could've been protected by star power considering where it came from.

Well they were probably too focused on the plumber and his 8 companions storming the castle to worry about a flying bathtub.
