Overworld is iconic and quite well written, though maybe a bit overused now. Underwater is pretty good too. Underground is a bit overly simple in the original game but it could be worse. Castle theme's not all that great. Peach's theme is good but would be way better if they had been able to include the whole thing as they had planned (which they succeeded in doing in Lost Levels). I vote for Overworld and Underwater.

The votes are in!

  • Overworld Votes: 15 (88.2%)
  • Underground Votes: 6 (35.3%)
  • Underwater Votes: 7 (41.2%)
  • Castle Votes: 0 (0.0%)
  • Peach's Theme Votes: 3 (17.6%)
Unsurprisingly, Overworld is the most popular theme, and indeed, this is the theme that comes to mind when it comes to Mario. There's a reason it's overused. Although not as popular, the Underground and Underwater themes have their fans, as they're quite catchy too. Peach's Theme would probably fare better if it's based on the extended theme. The loser here is Castle, which hardly anybody likes that it got zero votes, a first so far.

The next poll will be another character-based on, this time dealing with you favourite Koopalings. For this one, you can only choose up to 3 out of the 7 available Koopalings.

Thank you for reading.

i don't exactly have one but i think larry has to be a mention. nostaliga for christmas day 2011 when i beat the whole of world one in new super mario bros wii a single sitting (that's a lot of gaming for 8 year old me)

little did i know what would await me five days later...

Mine is definitely Ludwig. He's the oldest, smartest (perhaps besides Iggy), and he's generally the last Koopaling that the player fights, not to mention that I also like his hairstyle.

Iggy's my fave, but for my two other picks I'm going with Ludwig and Roy.

Such great tastes over here. 😛

Ludwig is my favorite one. On the 2D Platformers, he always has unique strategies in each of the games that you fight him (unique boss fight in SMW, only Koopaling who doesn't use the same fighting style from SMB3 on the fortress boss fight in NSMBW). That's why he always stand-out the most in my opinion.

If I go with two other picks, Lemmy is my second favorite (he's just a cute little guy, and I love his attitude), followed by Wendy.

Morton is my new favorite thanks to Bowser Jr.'s Journey. Also if there's one thing I can give Color Splash credit for, it's giving Morton such an endearingly dim personality that, in Bowser Jr.'s Journey, is the most adorable thing- he's just a big softie that wants to protect Bowser Jr, who in turn goes from being mean to him (and the other Koopalings) to realizing how nice they treated him, to feeling guilty for being mean, and eventually rescuing Morton from control of the BFF's, resulting in a teary reunion. It was also heartbreaking when Morton first got brainwashed, and with the last ounces of control desperately ordered Jr. to run away while he still could, fighting as hard as he could not to succumb to the enemy. Followed by him going mad with power and KO'ing Bowser Jr. and Kamek.

The other two? Probably Ludwig and Iggy.

He's not a softie, he's just exceedingly loyal.

Other than that though I agree, best Koopaling.

Ludwig for being broken in Dr. Mario World because he alludes to Beethoven and I always thought he was pretty chill.

My 3 favorite Koopalings?

I'm so glad Morton was the character around whom there was the whole turning point of the story of Bowser Jr.'s Journey, they got the memo that he was big and ugly, but also quite cute and so rather than playing on strength and aggressiveness they got with the simple-minded but also truly loyal minion that always stayed on Bowser Jr.'s side, no matter how much exceedingly spoiled the latter might have been in his manners.

Ludwig on the other hand gained a bit of an independence in both Color Splash and BJJ: the first suggests Ludwig wasn't even following Bowser's commands, but rather using the Big Paint Star on his own to lure Mario and fight him, in the second he decides his clever disguise plan on his own without telling anyone.

No much luck for little Lemmy, though: If anything he references his namesake by playing the air guitar in the last Mario & Luigi games, plus he managed to have his own circus and was immune to Things at the beginning of his fight in Color Splash...

P.S:: and oh, in Mario Kart Tour Bowser Jr. is a baby while Lemmy isn't, does this mean that Lemmy is officially older than Bowser Jr.?

i mean if we consider the order you fight them in smb3 to be the age order then lemmy is older than even roy and iggy and basically everyone but ludwig and its so funny i love that

And that's it for this one! From the poll, it's ranked based on the following:

  • Ludwig von Koopa Votes: 12 (50.0%)
  • Lemmy Koopa Votes: 10 (41.7%)
  • Morton Koopa Jr Votes: 7 (29.2%)
  • Iggy Koopa Votes: 6 (25.0%)
  • Wendy Koopa Votes: 6 (25.0%)
  • Roy Koopa Votes: 6 (25.0%)
  • Larry Koopa Votes: 3 (12.5%)

As we can see, Ludwig is clearly the most popular Koopaling of the lot, which can be attributed to his design and his mannerisms, where he is usually attributed as the smartest. Lemmy did not fare too badly, as he's the youngest and cutest of the lot. The least popular one by far is clearly Larry, who is probably hindered by a lack of something that made him stand out, compared to his brethren who has that something that gives them an edge.

The next poll will be a bit more complex compared to the normal offerings, as it's an opinion relating to Bowser kidnapping Peach. In countless Mario games, the basis of the plot is usually that Bowser kidnapped Peach, which has more options. This was actually going to be the next poll before the Koopalings part, but given its complexity, I decided to delay it.

Basically there are six options, and each of them has opposites: (1) & (6), (2) & (3) and (4) & (5) are opposites, as the first pair is about direct choices, the second pair is if you like one part of it but not the other, while the third pair is if you want the plot to be adhered to, but not all the way.

The poll will be delayed, unfortunately, as no moderators are currently around to help out.

Thank you for reading.

idk exactly what your question is but myself i really don't like it when mario games just have very simple, recycled plots. even super mario land at least had an original princess, who became pretty famous, and an original villain, who remained fairly obscure for a main series Mario character. i get that some games aren't meant to have complex plots, and it's not necessary for games to be good (i for one am a massive fan of the super mario maker series, super mario galaxy 2, and minecraft), but it still feels dissappointing when it's just bowser kidnapping peach again rather than something more orignal.
