The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)

Fun fact: The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the first Illumination home media release to not come with any short films, breaking a tradition that started since the first Despicable Me.

I rather not have Peach and Daisy as mean high school girls, it doesn't fit their characters plus it might get people turned down for the right reasons to make Bowser an icon for them

Yeah, although we should keep in mind that might of not been what happened. I'd imagine if it made it into the film they'd make it so this is how Bowser remembers it only for a later scene to show he was actually being a creep and/or Peach just politely turned him down

I'm curious what people think of the movie now that it's been a while since the heat of the moment. I feel like it barely gets brought up anymore, which is weird given how massive it was. I might not have ever posted about it here in the first place…?, might try to collect my thoughts later

I still think it's a phenomenal movie and easily one of my all time favourite movies, however I still have mildly salty feelings about the movie's decision to completely ignore the Mario RPGs as well as Toadsworth not making it into the final film.

idk it would've been nice but i think the most RPG stuff i could have reasonably expected from this introductory film was a minor cameo or off hand namedrop anyway. The fact that a musical bit from Super Mario RPG was composed for the movie at all was crazy, sucks that it got replaced with licensed music and left out of most soundtrack releases too but I bet that was Square Enix causing trouble again. Even if it doesn't really make sense that they'd do that given the remake was in development already. Anyway I think hoping for more RPG stuff in sequels is a bit more reasonable.

As for Toadsworth, yeah I have no defense for that. Nintendo does him dirty regularly for no reason. Still an excellent movie that basically does everything I wish the 90s movie did with the IP.

I never watched it because at the time it came out (April 2023) was when my life was really going down the sh***er and I was too depressed to go watch it despite being a huge fan of the series.

Nowadays, I still won't watch it because of the bad timing...Like, I'll still get reminded of how my life was when the movie released and I just don't want to be reminded of that.

That being said, I still really appreciate that Baby Peach made an appearance in the movie at all and it's still my favorite thing about the movie...

The whole story rather further proves why Peach needs a role model parent character in her life, which makes Toadsworth's burial more pointless.

I feel like if Nintendo want audience to not even think about it, they also need to adjust to the extent "Peach doesn't need Toad elders to nurse and guide her to become an adult and a leader."

Movie gave me this shot of Baby Luigi so it's the best movie ever made.

If I were to list every Mario related thing that wasn't in the movie that is unrelated to the rpgs I'd die of old age before I was done.
