Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet

I was unsure about Sword and Shield's names when I first heard about them, but seriously? Scarlet and Violet?

I mean, to be fair, the very first Pokémon games were named Red and Green. The color conventions have been in the series since the very beginning; X and Y, Sun and Moon, and Sword and Shield are the outliers. (Even the ones named after "minerals" are still colors.)

Personally, I'm not too fussed about the name of the game. Also -

Pokémon Chaos and Pokémon Order! It's right there! A perfect name!

Gonna be honest with you, this sounds like a fangame name.

...Do you mean that as a compliment, or do you think I stole it?

I don't think you stole it. It's more an observation. I think it's a cool name, but I don't think Gamefreak officially would go for it and it's more along the lines of what fan creators would use.

Years ago I remember people were expecting Pokemon to run out of gemstones lol

Also years ago, do any of your remember that when a new Pokemon installment was revealed, it wasn't the starters who were first revealed, and all Pokemon's names were in Japanese and we don't know their English names for MONTHS while people were speculating on what the English names were. Also Japan gets their Pokemon like 6 months before the rest of the world. Gen 6 was like the first time the starters were first revealed plus their English names.

I don't miss those years at all, good riddance to these insane staggered releases, but I wonder if some people are now too young to even remember this.

New trailer just dropped and

I like Pawmi. It somewhat resembles a chinchilla, from what I can see. Don't like Lechonk or Smolive, as they are very generic looking in my opinion. The legendaries don't impress me at all, but I like the look of Miraidon more than Koraidon. I can't believe they did not reveal the name of the region. I like the open-world and the fact that multiple trainers can explore it. And following Pokemon are back as well. Hopefully this mechanic is improved greatly, as BDSP missed the mark quite a lot when it came to this. The graphics look nice as well.

Also, I might be taking a personal break from the franchise. I'm done playing Shield, never finished New Snap, and stopped playing BDSP a month before I received Kirby and the Forgotten Land. I personally think that although I like a lot of the Pokemon introduced in Gen 8, the games weren't as good as previous generations. Sword and Shield had a poorly executed gimmick, subpar graphics, and a linear structure. BDSP had nostalgia bait, cheap looking overworld models, and was released unfinished. If Gen 9 continues to have problems or even makes things worse than they already are for the franchise, I'm honestly thinking about skipping over these games. Considering how mediocre Gen 8 was, I'm not really sure if we need another Pokemon game this year. I also think that Gamefreak should let players enjoy PLA instead of giving them another entry. A lot of people (including myself) might be burnt out from all these entries releasing one after the other.

Sword and Shield we're good games, and I'm always excited for more Pokemon
BDSP has an interesting new style, plus stuff like the Grand Underground and a harder Elite 4

Just pointing out some positive things to counter the negatives :D

Omg finally we can play with our friends on the field. Finally giving more purpose to all the props and scenery, such as benches.

Really like the two new legendary designs, both of them are generally great and the fact they're based on motorcycles makes them even better.

There's some catching up with some new revealed information.

Summary so far:

New Pokemon
  • Cetitan (Ice), likely to be fully-evolved given its size
  • Fidough (Fairy), a dog made of bread dough
  • Wooper (Paldean Form) (Poison/Ground), a regional form of Wooper that could very well evolve into a regional evolution instead of a Quagsire form
  • Cyclizar (Dragon/Normal), which is suspiciously very similar in build and ability as Koraidon and Miraidon, so it could be connected to them. Do note that Cyclizar itself is not a legendary (unlike Cosmog/Cosmoem), so it might not evolve into either of the legendaries.
New Details
  • The region's name is Paldea, and it looks pretty big and does not appear to have a streamlined path like Unova. Something mysterious is in the centre of the map, and the top-right looks suspiciously interconnected to a French-inspired region (no connection confirmed, I need to mention)
  • The school that the player goes to depends on the version, so Scarlet has the orange-emblem Naranja and Violet has the grape-emblem Uva.
  • The school has some interesting characters like the director Clavell and homeroom teacher Jacq
  • Gyms make a return, and one such Gym Leader, Grusha (Ice) is shown off
New Way to Battle
  • Terastal is the new way of battling, covering the Pokemon in a crystal texture and giving them a big crown
  • It changes the Pokemon to a specific single type, and also powers up moves of that type. Yes, even dual-types will not retain their dual type
  • Tera Blast is a new attack that would allow the Pokemon to attack with the Tera's type, so for example, a Ghost-Terastallised Tyranitar will use a Ghost attack from it. Presumably, it could be learned by most available Pokemon
New Items/Moves
  • Shed Tail is a move that switches out the user to give the switch-in a substitute, though it is costly for the user's HP (1/2 their HP!)
  • Loaded Dice is an item that makes multi-hit moves more likely to hit more often
  • Mirror Herb copies the opponent's stat boosts, such as copying Belly Drum's drastic attack increase
  • Covert Cloak shields the user from secondary effects, like Fake Out's flinching or Scald's burn (this is not revealed in the trailer, but elsewhere)
Thank you for reading.

New trailer just dropped, also my friends are simping for the grass gym leader.

Also, why are the villains just slightly rebellious teenagers? Come on!

I'm liking Fidough, Cyclizer, Grafaiai, and Ceruledge. Their designs are really nice looking, and I also like how varied the quests in the main story are and that you get to ride around on the legendaries. I admit that I'm not a big fan of Team Star. Their clothes are lame (though Mela looks cool) and I feel like they won't matter a lot in the story. They might just be even worse than Team Yell in terms of how bad evil teams can get.

Exactly. Team Skull were rebellious teenagers, but at least they were slightly less lame to look at. Maybe Star will have funny dialogue too? Just hoping.

I miss Team Rocket.

Or to be more specific I miss the concept of a villain team that is just out to make money and do crime shit, not be a bunch of meh thugs.

Even though I didn't care about filling the dex in past games, I'm going to TRY to fill as much as I can in Violet. Even if I have to... (shudder) ...ask for help.
