Watched a half-hour of Birdemic. I can't wait to see the see more.

Also, I finally got new headphones that don't actually suck.

Re: today you did things noteworthy

Went to a collage football game. We won! The best part was this obnoxious redneck next to us. He kept screaming at his team when they would miss a pass or fail to tackle a player. It was pretty funny to watch. The band also played the Mortal Kombat theme, which was pretty cool.

Thanks Brittany.

I just watched Gravity. I found the start kinda slow and almost fell asleep but by the end it was quite good. Not my favourite movie ever but I was happy to see something not of the usual Hollywood format, y'know.

screw you that movie got like 97% rottentomatoes

not that I watched it but come on it's gotta be good right

Re: today you did things noteworthy

I tend to find that RottenTomatoes has the most pretentious taste in movies ever and I'd rather just see a movie and make my own opinion than follow what they say.

And I didn't say it was bad, just that it started slow and wasn't my favourite movie ever.

rottentomatoes is an aggregator

they take a list of reviews from reputable sources and say the percentage of reviews that are positive

which means 97% of critics liked this movie

Well yes I know that. I really should have said movie critics in general seem to have the most pretentious taste but you get the idea.

Though I'm mostly surprised by what the critics have said in the reviews (ie: when you read them, not look at the aggregated number). Like, a lot of them talk about how 'new' and 'captivating' it is but to me it felt like a lot of it could have been taken out of a number of sci-fi movies and books. I do agree that the visuals looked incredibly nice and about as close to real as you can get, and that Bullock's acting was about as perfect as you can get, so it was definitely not a bad or even average movie by any means.

I guess if I were to try and pinpoint down what was urking me, one of the biggest things I can think of was the physics mistakes that occurred throughout it. Like, I know that's kinda nitpicky, but the point of the movie was to give it as-close-to-real representation of an astronaut in that situation, so to have even my introductory-level knowledge of physics point these out kinda peeved me off, you know. One such example was:
- the camera was outside the pod that Sandra Bullock was in and you could faintly hear what she was saying inside, as if to indicate that yes, you are onlooking for the outside and therefore can only faintly hear her. This forgets the fact that in space there is no air for sound to pass through, so you shouldn't be able to hear her at all because there is no sound

rotten tomatoes can sometimes be horribly wrong

they rated Justin bieber's movie, 1D's movie, Lady Gaga's movie, etc, really high up

they rated movies like I, Robot, Priest, The Hobbit, Man of Steel, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc, quite low to really low

not saying they were the best movies and deserve really high ratings, but seriously, sometimes they get things wrong

IMO Roger Ebert was perhaps the most reliable critic on that site before his untimely death. The site doesn't exactly take anyone else's opinions but critic's opinions.

Re: today you did things noteworthy

Roger Ebert was pretty good. Then again, he gave phantom menace four stars and gave Gojira a bad review. I noticed several error in his review, such as saying a character (Ogata) was Serizawa's son. Did he even watch the movie? How do you make that mistake?

Well at least How To Train Your Dragon is at a 98%. Any lower than that and I would've been upset.
