If you want to experience the plot and dialogue in the original, un-embellished form then yeah, definitely don't read the fanfic until you're done the game. But I tried to make it so that the novelization could be understood just fine all on its own, if that's what you're concerned about - although having the wiki handy to look up character and enemy designs and whatnot might be handy.
