What's your favorite mario game for 3DS or Wii U?

I really enjoyed the assortment of Mario games on the 3DS. It gave little glimmers to have some old-school concepts brought back in modern ways, like 3D Land being all obstacle courses as opposed to 3D areas with minimal obstacles. So I think that one is my answer, although I also greatly enjoyed Sticker Stars TCG format, and the 3D immersion of MK7, and the creative silly writing of Dream Team.

Some of my favorite 3DS games are Super Mario 3D Land and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.

For the Wii U, some Of my favorites are New Super Mario Bros. U, Mario Party 10, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker and Super Mario 3D World.

Favourite on 3DS: Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, and it's not even close

Favourite on Wii U: This one is harder to answer.

I would have said Super Mario Maker at one point, but that is no longer as fun now that Wii U online is dead and that SMM1 has been superceeded by SMM2, even if there are some things about SMM1 that I liked better such as the Mystery Mushroom and the better creator interface.

Two other amazing Wii U games which I would consider nominating as my favourite would be Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (I know this thread says "Mario game" and is in the Mario discussion board but I still loosely consider the Donkey Kong franchise as part of the broader Mario franchise as they have shared origins in the arcade games, DK appears on many Mario spinoff rosters, and is a prominent character in the Mario movie)

Finally, I'm assuming that backwards compatibility/virtual console isn't counted, otherwise my answer for the Wii U would be Super Paper Mario lol.

Edit to add: Favourite Mario game across 3DS and Wii U libraries combined is Dream Team.

My favorite Wii U Mario game probably comes down to Mario Kart 8 or Super Mario 3D World. Both are very complete and fleshed out even without the Switch port content, and are emblematic of the Mario Kart and 3D Mario series, respectively. If I had to choose one however, I think it would be 3D World.

As for the 3DS, a few great Mario games that come to mind are Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Mario Sports Superstars, and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. Out of those, I think I would choose 3D Land as my favorite.

Dream Team, that game felt like a 2000s Mario game in a time capsule. It came out when the shifts in the Mario series hadn't yet been around long enough to feel like a real different era, but looking back that game was hella out of place compared to what was coming out around it, especially in the RPG department (sandwiched between the two most sterile Mario RPGs in history). It was even the final time we'd see Toadsworth in a brand new adventure. I'd love to see a remake of it someday, once Brothership's style is solidified and we get maybe one more new game or a Partners in Time remake in that style. I have a few small gripes with DT but all in all it was a shining star in a decade that had very few of those imo.

The other standout (original) game from the era was Super Mario Maker. I had several accounts on that game & during 2015-17 went crazy making & uploading levels & sending them to streamers. It was a great time. I wish features like the Mystery Mushroom were kept in SMM2 (and added to, like where is my Fawful costume I feel like given how much random shit they had that was actually kind of on the table unlike the places I usually ask for him)

I don't have any mainstream 3DS or Wii U games, but my favorite ones, if I had to choose, would have to be New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario 3D World.

Favorite Mario 3DS game that I've played: (MK7, SM3DL, Sticker Star, Dream Team, Paper Jam, Luigi's Mansion 2, NSMB2). Probably Dream Team, or Super Smash Bros 3DS if that counts but I'm sure that it doesn't.

Favorite Mario Wii U game that I've played: (MK8, SM3DW, NSMBU & NSLU, MP10, Mario Maker). Either Mario Kart 8 or SM3DW.

I'd say my two favorite Wii titles-two of them-are definitely Mario Kart Wii, and also Super Mario Galaxy although when I played it as a teen years ago I was awful at it LOL. I think nowadays as an adult I'd be a lot better at it. I also have very fond memories of playing Mario Kart Wii with my dad, racing against him.

I play my 3DS maybe once every few months and it's always to play a short round of Balloon Bash in Mario Party Star Rush. Since that's the only 3DS game that I really play anymore, I will consider Mario Party: Star Rush to be my favorite 3DS game.

Btw, thanks to whoever uploaded all of the character icons from this game onto the Mario Party Star Rush Gallery page on the wiki. (The icons from the character selection screen, for when they're in 1st, and in 4th)

I never play the Wii U anymore since the Switch has pretty much made it obsolete for me. But back when I did play it, my favorite games were Smash 4 Wii U and Mario Kart 8. But I guess Smash doesn't count as a Mario game, so Mario Kart 8 it is.

I've been playing Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story remake for the 3DS. I'd say those games are my favorite games for that system.
I guess Smash doesn't count as a Mario game, so Mario Kart 8 it is.
Eh, depends on what your personal definition is of what is a "Mario" game. If you count any game that has Mario characters in it as a Mario game then to you it's a Mario game. Also the Wii U-I don't think it's necessarily a bad console but it wasn't really that different from the Wii other than a little bit more portability; you could play it as a handheld so you could play your games on long car trips, etc. All in all it wasn't that much of an improvement which makes it kind of disappointing in that regard. And I don't know what the quality of the graphics and sound was compared to the original Wii. Probably wasn't that much better with either of those to be honest.
