are obviously playable, in SMUSA Peach 
and Toad 
, then there's Yoshi and yoshi colours (Claud, Jonny, Sunny, Marci, Brown Yoshi, Netty, Tommy, Eddi, Black Yoshi and White Yoshi), who are playable in the Yoshi's Island series (which derive from a game of the super Mario series), and in the Wario Land series, Wario 
is playable (the Wario Land series also derive from a game of the super Mario series). Then, in Super Mario Sunshine, F.L.U.D.D. is playable (according to the 2015 encyclopedia), Blue Toad and Yellow Toad are playable in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Co-Star Luma is playable in Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Nabbit is playable in New Super Luigi

The Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia is notoriously one of the least reliable "official" sources out there. There was even this thing where one of the authors plagiarized information from Mario Wiki (which turned out to be incorrect)

The English SME plagiarized some names and other text from the wiki, some of which were conjecture, which is UNOFFICIAL.

Because the English translation wasn't actually by Nintendo, it was by Dark Horse. AFAIK the original Japanese text was actually from Nintendo, but when Dark Horse translated it they made millions of mistakes

But I'm pretty sure the japanese version also says F.L.U.D.D. is playable. Only people that have the book know why.
