what do you think about super mario bros deluxe

It was pretty good, despite the smaller screen. It had the challenge mode, the VS Boo mode was fun, and it also included modified levels from the Lost Levels.

Also Nintendo is taking their sweet time to put the game on NSO, but thats expected at this point.

I think it was pretty good too, for the time it was made. I mean you not only get Super Mario 1 and 2 (and I think 3, if I'm remembering right) but you also get stuff to print out with the Game Boy Camera, a calendar, and a lot more. Like, even if you don't enjoy the game itself you could have fun with all that other stuff.

ok actually super mario all-stars is up there but SMB deluxe is like...not good
Yeah that might be true now but it was the best way to play them at the time. And Super Mario All-Stars was a heck of a lot better to play than the original NES games because it had better colors and better hardware so for the time it was good too. And I've seen hundreds of good reviews for both games (both Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario Deluxe) on Ebay so at least people are still enjoying and playing them.

And technically retro gaming is a big thing right now so lots of people play Super Mario All-Stars even today and enjoy it
those people are objectively wrong

like mario 2 and mario 3 in all stars are fine, that's just personal preference if you prefer the NES or SNES graphics but like mario 1 and the lost levels are like objectively worse in all-stars than on the NES because the physics are different and it is just...not good to play if you're in the modern day and can play the NES originals

(smb deluxe at least didn't fuck with the physics - well the lost levels did a bit because iirc they made luigi play exactly the same as mario and removed the wind from the levels that had wind - but it suffers from the fact that the game boy color screen resolution is lower than the NES so you don't have as much viewing space as you do when playing the original games)

Deluxe was the first way I experienced SMB, but these days I would most likely play the NES version of SMB1 or even the SNES version (with or without the fixed physics mod), just for the bigger picture alone. But I still sometimes have the itch to play the VS Boo mode or even the challenge mode in deluxe. I think modes like those would be great to have in a future 2D Mario game.

Pretty good but MAN the screen crunch is a pain, it'd be so cool if someone could backport the new stuff back to the original NES version.

Super Mario Bros. Deluxe was not bad for the time it was made and is fun to play but yeah does have some flaws-screen crunch being one of them.
