New Mario Kart game shown for Nintendo Switch 2

Hell, all of the babies return, including Baby Rosalina. To be honest, they should do this, and they shouldn't cut any character from rosters, period, because every character has someone who adores them
Specifically about babies in general, my issus with them is still the major underuse. I know they have huge advantage in MK roster because of weight classes, but they should also get some chances outside MK. (Same for Funky, too)

Oh and let's remember Honey Queen is still the only mistreated old racer from MK7.

Overall as I said above I really hope Nintendo do reserve the room for new racers no matter how many veterans they keep. If they couldn't bring enough spice to next MK, the current starting game, as you say, doesn't look new enough.
New racer is definitely important this time. We know MK8 did a very controversial job about it throughout its decade history.

There's not much really to comment on besides 24 simultaneous racers, the race track itself (which we've seen only barely), and the roster, which includes bikes again. Like, zero gameplay is revealed for now (we haven't even seen items). Hell, we don't even know who the characters are except for maybe Standard Kart, but it's nice to see the Tiny Titan as a returning character. Meanwhile, the customizable parts, DK (and Bowser), look noticeably different, but the other parts, at least from the smudged trailer thing that just zoom by in a couple of seconds, don't look too different for now, but I guess we'll see better. I do think if they're gonna redesign DK like this, they should commit with other kart parts, including Yoshi (think Super Mario Bros. Wonder changing the playable characters), so DK doesn't look horribliy off.

And I'm hoping the graphics do improve, tho that's not a make it or break it thing, considering how the push for graphics in the larger industry overall really is pushing development to its limits.

I figure this is probably just the Odyssey reveal years ago where it was teased alongside the reveal for Switch 2, where my reaction to it barely registered, and the real ball (or maybe the kart) rolling started at the first "real" trailer of the game. In the meantime, I'll just for that until then. I'm hoping and expecting they'll shake up the formula. I'll shelf this game rather quickly (and explore other racing games) if they don't. It might be just Mario Kart 8 being so drawn out but the fatigue for these games is starting to set in for me sadly.

Sounds like you've played so many of these games you're kind of tired of them. I can understand that. Even something that's fun if you do it too often and too many times can get stale sometimes. I have only played a few MarioKart games, though, so not really bored with it yet. I'm definitely bored with MarioKart Wii though.

With 24 characters to be in a race, I hope we get a big roster with a bunch of characters. Maybe Poochy and Dixie Kong can come back instead of being locked behind an almost dead mobile title?

I strongly agree with this. The babies seem like perfect fits in games like Mario Party yet they just never appear. I just want to see the adorable little scamps running around a board and participating in those lava filled obstacle courses. I'm glad Nintendo are dead set on returning them despite having a vocal online hatedom, after learning why they added Baby Rosalina into Mario Kart 8, I do appreciate that they take into account everyone who is a potential player of the game than the opinions of 20 year old white cishet boys online.

Now that DK got redesigned, they should redesign Daisy to be a tan butch lesbian distinct from Peach.

I haven't missed a Mario Kart entry aside from the hard to access arcade titles and that weird Mario Kart Live thing but this probably is the first time I won't play a Mario Kart on launch, just because I don't want to drop money on this system and yes I am getting a little burnt out on Mario Kart especially after playing other kart racing games. This is after I reevaluated my time spent on Switch: I only play Smash on it and it's 100% because of mods, so the Switch 2 will have neither of that. I probably may pick up this game just because Baby Luigi is there but it'll be at a much later date than launch.

I'm not sure if this is what they're going for, but something about the way the track is set up makes me imagine a big cannonball run style race across the mushroom kingdom, where each leg of the race takes place in a different location on a long journey instead of being on separate tracks.

I think the best part for me about this trailer is that Daisy and Waluigi are going to be present and playable. Some may argue that they're a given, but after Waluigi's exclusion in Mario Kart 7, this is something that's not worth taking for granted.

(Now the so-called big 8 of Mario Kart, those you can take for granted)

Thank you for reading.

Looks interesting, very similar to MK8 really. More racers should be fun, it's like Tetris 99 etc I guess, a greater focus on online racing with more people. The tracks will likely never be really hard like in Super Mario Kart again. I hope there's some new racing gimmick besides just more racers - 64 added real 3D, Double Dash had the best feature ever, enabling co-op in races + special items, Wii had motion controls, 7 had air + underwater racing, 8 added anti-gravity. I hope there's some big new feature like that. A single-player mode would be lovely. And setting up to even more frantic modes would be great, like, Super Frantic Mode! DK's redesign is terrible.

i like the designs but i don't like the karts. mario and luigi look like their m&l brothership counterparts, which is fine by my standards bc i like those designs. i think the karts have to change to a mix breed of the wii and 3ds karts (or a hybrid i guess?!?!?!?!) and that track should be scrapped (YOSHIS?! SINCE WHEN HAS A YOSHI OWNED A RESTARAUNT?!) everything else should be fine. TTHIOS GAME IS MASSIVE! Nintendo needs to make it massive.

I'm not sure whether I like the karts or not to be honest. As far as DK's redesign I don't mind it though. It doesn't look that weird to me.

Oh no that's the Mario movie king boo design I think half of these are gonna be Mario Movies Desgins which in my opinion might be hit or miss

I don't get the issue with the DK design. Clearly the idea to bring back elements of his original arcade look and mix them with his Rare look was not a movie-specific one. The movie just happened to do it first, thus everyone says this is movie DK. This game appears to be going for a 3D interpretation of the classic Kotabe style, which is what Mario Wonder also did. The idea of DK bringing back more elements of his arcade design is likely a part of that.

Anyways, 24 characters per race? By my calculations this means the roster should be MASSIVE to make sure every race doesn't feel like a repeat with the exact same characters. As a launch title for a new system, with a refreshed visual style and bigger scale, this would be as good a time as ever to toss aside past restraints and pull from Mario games yet unprecedented. Time to huff the copium just like old times.

@Fawfulthegreat64 I agree I don't think it looks bad or weird, just different from how he was portrayed before in so many other games and media but how is that even an issue? Also one other thing-why is it every race could feel like a repeat with the same characters? Like, it's a different track every time so, I don't know, personally I think that would keep things from getting boring just by itself-I would expect the experience would feel different for every track enough for it not to bore players. At least it would for me, then again I don't know how other players and fans would feel about it. If most other players would be bored without a wider range of characters to race with despite a different track and racing experience each time based on that then sure, yeah, probably better to have a more expanded roster. Because not everyone is as easily entertained as me (a lot of people probably aren't).

they could easily fix the dk issue by making his older design a selectable alt

Honestly I'm just happy that Nintendo is willing to experiment with Mario's art style and character design at all instead of keeping everything to an overused corporate standard model. It will likely lead to some misses, but it's worth it overall.

I'll also say, as someone who likes the Rare designed Donkey Kong. I actually like the new Donkey Kong too, he doesn't look exactly like movie Donkey Kong to me, but more cartoony and animal like. it's more of a blend of the movie design with inspiration from the old arcade cabinet art. I like that he's way too big for his Kart.

Another thing, I'm hoping kart parts are more customizable. Imagine if my frequently-used kart part, Mario, got some decor and body modifications (like in Mario Kart Live) to help accentuate the character I'll main. I haven't decided on a character yet (and how can we? we don't even know the names of them yet), but I'm hoping we get some girly ones like Prancer, Birthday Girl, Heart Coach, and so on.

Come on Nintendo, if Crash Team Racing can have extensive kart creation with paint jobs and stickers, Mario Kart can too.

The thing that irks me the most is that color customization isn't even a hard thing to implement at all. In terms of programming, it just amounts to changing a hue value over a defined white area of a texture. Beetle Adventure Racing pulled this trick all the way back in the N64 days. They don't even need to do a color wheel trick if that's too much to ask for, they can easily use a set of preset textures like in Burnout Paradise (again, not hard to actually design since all they need to do is change the hue code in their texture program). I'd want any change to car customization colors than being stuck to a pink Badwagon or whatever. Mario Kart Tour itself provided so much paintjob options that while stuck to a terrible gacha, shows you that it could be done and is very desirable, just that they don't want to implement it, imo, a bad decision.

I also want body modifications like adding grills, spoilers, hoods, wings, etc. but that's a bit of a tall order to ask for as opposed to simple color swatches. Preset stickers that you can unlock while playing the game and slapping them on your car would also be a neat incentive to play. All of that could be tied behind the coin system that you can spend on an in-game shop (though definitely do not have CTR's rotating shop system with a terrible grind because that would suck).

@Ray Trace To be honest we don't yet know what is going to be in this game so it might be best not to be negative about what might be lacking in the game when it comes out because in all reality and fairness there's no way to know. But I can understand your frustrations and concerns when it comes to this, really I do. You want so much from this new game and you don't know if Nintendo will deliver, if it'll have the features you individually want. Like-I can understand how uncertainty about that can produce some anxiety and maybe even some frustration. At least if the game isn't the way you want it to be you can just not play it and wait to see if the next Mario Kart is better. Like, if I were you I too would be concerned and maybe a bit negative about this. To be honest, the stuff you described wanting in the game is stuff I think I'd like too, even though they don't have to be in the game for me to be happy with it.

For sure we don't know what's going to be in the game but I'm putting my expectations in check because it's better off that it exceeds expectations if they are tempered than it fails to deliver. Mario Kart 7 ended up a very disappointing title despite how much I loved how it first got announced at the time while Mario Kart 8 was one of my most anticipated video games of all time. But also, a lot happened in 11 years since Mario Kart 8 was first released. I've grown up and I've gotten to play a lot of fantastic racing games over the years between 8 and now (Sonic & All Stars Transformed, Burnout Paradise, Team Sonic Racing, Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart, Blur, Sky Infinity, Forza Horizon 4, Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled) and that's a very long time; the Switch technically skipped a Mario Kart entry altogether, so a lot of my opinions had changed since then.

@Ray Trace Yeah I get what you're saying. You know, the "expect to be disappointed so that you won't be disappointed" mindset. I can understand that. So that way if it doesn't have everything you want, you won't be devastated. Yeah I get that. I have to do that myself sometimes. There have been times before that I was excited about something, but it wasn't everything I expected it to be and that was a bit disappointing.

Also I notice you like the Sega characters and Sonic do you like them as much as Nintendo's Mario characters? I like them both equally.

We're getting double the racer capacity, at least. Double item boxes have not yet been spotted, so that might have been a one time thing, unfortunately. And I believe (from reading YT comments) DK's redesign is supposed to be similar to the older DK models, and just happens to be very close to Movie DK. I wonder how Battle Mode (or other new modes or returning modes (WE MIGHT GET MISSION MODE BACK)) will work though...
