Long A? When you say "long A", I think your meaning like in lawn or father. Use "diphtonic A" instead. Also, I don't use AHD, I use IPA.

No, but "diphton" (or somthn') is one. I'll use IPA:
More open long A: /ɑː/ (father)
More closed long A: /ɔː/ (aw)
Short A: /æ/ (at)
Diphton A: /eɪ/ (ate)
Unstressed A: /ə/ (a)
