A lot of people don't have SMG. Otherwise, Nintendo wouldn't have made SMG2 appeal to people who have never played it.

Well I mean, Nintendo could've just assumed everyone playing Galaxy 2 has already played and beaten the first game and not tell you any of the controls or give you any hints throughout.
 
SMG3 would have to use Galaxy 1's story but Galaxy 2's gameplay.

Well, I liked in SMG2 that they didn't just rehash Rosalina and brought in a different character. Made it feel fresh. And I'd like them to do that with the next game.

Too many new characters for one game just makes them seem so unimportant.

They only appear in one game. (Rosalina's "appearance" in SMG2 was unneeded)
