Just to let you guys know, for about the next month, you can get Reshiram (in Pokémon White) or Zekrom (in Black) over wi-fi mystery gift. I got mine this morning. IIRC, they're Lv. 100 and have one of their signature moves from the fourteenth movie.

Well, I'm doing a fire monotype on all games at the same time frame sort of.

I've done platinum and black

Black:
TEPIG [Burner] Lv14 (Tackle/Defense Curl/Ember/Odor Sleuth)

Platinum:
MONFERNO [Inferno] Lv18 (Scratch/Mach Punch/Ember/Fury Swipes)

And I'm playing HeartGold right now. I'm currently in the tower with a lv13 cyndaquil.
 
Well now I've done up to the 1 st gym in all the games. Gates port in XD and the 2nd gym in HeartGold. I'm currently going through for the 2nd gyms.

Oh and it's all with fire types.

Ampharos is great. Nice decision.

Miltank? Uh no.

Mamoswine is really good, too. However for your water-type, I reccommend Kingdra.

Unsure about Dodrio.
 
I figured out that with just playing the game your Pokemon mostly only need to be offensive. But online they need to be super strategic

Uh, yeah.

The AI in Pokemon is not too intelligent; the most clever strategies I've seen were Double Team spamming with Cynthia's Spiritomb. Which is not very impressive.

Online (or as I like to put it, competitive) battling is completely different because people can use defensive Pokemon like Jellicent and drive you insane.

Let's take a glance at his moveset:

Scald - moderate damage, but a decent burn chance that prevents physical Pokemon from switching in. This is because if you are burned, your Attack decreases by 50%.
Will-O-Wisp - Guaranteed burn.
Taunt - Stops other Pokemon from setting up (upping their stats) or spamming auxillary moves such as Thunder Wave, Spikes, etc. Pretty general-purpose.
Recover - So that after you've finished Taunting and Burning them, you can get back your health.

And that's just one defensive Pokemon, there are others such as Ferrothorn that see common use as well.

Trust me, the game improves greatly once you learn that offense isn't everything.
 
Well, I figured this out a while ago. Since all those online people videos have status effects and stuff.

I hate those types of attacks. If they give statu effects and do nothing else then their as useful as growl and tail whip for me. except for maybe yawn, and attract sometimes

I'm thinking of replacing Staravia with Shinx so I can level it up. But I haven't been playing Platinum as much as I've wanted to lately. :S
