Good luck with Drayden.

You should probably throw Ice beam on Jellicent or pick up a Dragon type.

Don't do this. I speak from experience - when I was a Pokemon noob, I always would avoid the trainers. Turns out that I was way outmatched when I came to the Elite Four.

You might be able to get by without facing trainers these days, as the games aren't as difficult, but the grinding definitely pays off.

no

Read what I said, I'm leaving them for Zorua, because right now, by the time I get it, it won't be up to par with the rest of the team. I never skip trainers for the entire game, if I miss them, I have a reason too.

damn

well i better find some alternative

In driftveil city, there's a move tutor who will teach Ice Punch. Don't know if you need a certain ammount of shards for it though, I got a ton of shards from using repels in Relic Passage and getting dust clouds.

Ah.

That makes sense, sorry for jumping to conclusions. I didn't have all the context.

Nah it's fine, it happens from time to time with all of us.

Although, I'm kind of worried that by the time i beat team plasma and get Zorua, the trainers in the desert resort won't be enough. I'm considering skipping a few more trainers for it to fight, but I'm not sure how strong team plasma will be.

You need to remember though that Zorua belongs to N, so it'll get boosted experience points, even while holding the Exp. Share item. That'll easily speed up its level growth.

Yeah I figured that out while battling the trainers. It's already Zoroark and I didn't actually know about its Illusion ability. I thought it learnt Transform or something, didn't know it actually made an illusion.

Comments: Honestly, this thing evolved at all of the wrong levels and I had to end up overtraining it to beat the 5th and 7th gyms. Its ability is not one that I greatly enjoy. Would I rather have the other abilities? No(Unless it was Hail/Blizzard/Ice Body). Handled Iris' Dragons very well up to Haxorus which Dragon Danced and swept my entire team with a combo of moves. On the second go around through my clever AI tricking abilities I just barely won. Also, I would have rather had NeverMeltIce over Mystic Water.

Comments: Oh dear lord. This thing was quite possibly the biggest waste of space in my party up until the final battle in story mode. It is an extremely late bloomer, and thus its stats are significantly less than any strong trainer's Pokemon. I had to keep this thing on Exp. Share for 1/3 of the game. The Wide lens is very useful for helping to counteract hustle.

Comments: During the Elite 4 he became almost as much of a dead weight as Derkesthai was during the gyms. However, he was very useful during the 8 gyms and Ghetsis and stuff. I had to debate between Leftovers and Shell Bell for him. I eventually went with Leftovers. I was rather disappointed that he was unable to out-speed Iris' Haxorous when it had used Dragon Dance.

Nice team. I beat Clay last night, after spending 7 of the 10 hours playing yesterday searching for rare Pokemon. I got a Shiny Stone on Route 6 and said fuck it and used it to evolve Roselia into Roserade since I only found one of those things in Lostlorn Forest and I ran away accidentally. Anyway, I swear that I'm not overleveled no more, Clay's strongest 'mon was Lv33 compared to my Lv36's. I'm probably at the perfect level to not be overleveled but easily beat his team. I did some switches between Seamus and Zoroark to beat Krokorok then used Jordan to OHKO Sandslash and then Rio easily OHKO'd Excadrill. I also leveled both Seamus and Victoria 3 levels higher than the rest eariler on, because Seamus was kind of useless at the time and Victoria kept fucking missing with Hustle. Now she has Sheer Force, and Seamus actually has a useful ability.

sorry for the wall of text, I'm just recalling anything mildly important, here's the team:

Comments: Not much to say about Rio specifically, but after some careful consideration, I taught him Ice Punch using 10 of my 14 Red Shards. Pretty expensive, but if I need to later on, I can go back to Relic Passage to get more shards. I also found out that his nature increases his attack, but I'm still going to have him as a combination of Special and Physical attacks.

Comments: He wasn't much of a help while looking for rare Pokemon, since his Static ability made Emolga appear more often. He also didn't help during the gym since it was his one weakness and I didn't teach him any moves through tutor, but that's because I can make him remember Fire Punch once he evolved into Electivire.

Comments: After realizing I wasn't able to enter the PWT before beating Clay, I decided to teach him Signal Beam for 4 Red Shards. His HP is the most among the team, but Water Gun really sucks. I'm looking forward to getting Surf finally. I also gave her the Shell Bell, but I should have kept Mystic Water, to make sure Water Gun does decent damage.

Comments: Now that she finally evolved and lost Hustle, she is a beast. Sheer Force is a great ability because I don't rely on status problems to kill my enemies. She got a major jump in HP, Attack and Speed when she evolved. I can finally use a move without it missing constantly, I ran out of PP for a move that started with 15 and it still hadn't hit, that's how bad it was.

Comments: Just like Victoria, I overleveled him to make him evolve. His speed went up a shit ton, but his power actually went down when he evolved. Honestly, I'd rather power than speed, so that kind of sucks. He got Levitate, which helped against Ground moves in Clay's gym, also, it's helpful unlike Arena Trap.

Comments: He's the new addition to the team. I didn't get to name him, but whenever I switch him in during a battle, he's got that small Green shiny effect to show it's N's. He's actually really helpful, but his Illusion ability make it so I rarely actually see his sprites, so that's a bummer. Right now, his only really good attack is Night Slash, Fury Swipes is used for weakening Pokemon for catching, while Dig and Foul Play are just there. I heard that he wasn't that good, but I can say that's bullshit. This guy is great.

Sorry if me writing all this is annoying, it's mostly just because I want too, but I thought I'd post it here because it makes sense.

I started another Heartgold file.

My planned Pokemon:

Feraligatr
Ampharos
Miltank
Arcanine (How often does Schoolboy Alan call you?)
Espeon
Not sure what to use for my sixth pokemon. It's gonna take me forever to find a Heart Scale (if I can find one at at all) to evolve Piloswine and I don't have enough patience to raise a dragon-type.

Half of your team is what I used. The Three of them are pretty good. Also, if it's HeartGold your playing, you can get a Fire Stone from the Pokeathalon Dome. Waiting for Schoolboy Alan to call or going to Kanto takes too long. I don't remember what day they are available in the shop though.

Oh right, getting evolutionary stones in those games is a bitch.

In other news, Derkesthai(Hydeigon) is now 6 levels higher than most of my team after I used all of my rare candies to get him to evolve.

I love that zorua

It's amazing.

Btw, if anybody wants to tutor moves but doesn't have enough shards, I figured out two ways.
The fast, expensive way: Buy a shit ton of Max Repels and run around inside Relic Passage and get them from dust clouds.
The slow way: Go to the PWT, go into a match and forfeit it straight away. You get one shard as a consolation prize.

I found out the Elecrivizer is gotten after the 8th gym, so I'm grinding for red shards to teach Michael fire punch.

EDIT: For me atleast, single battle dropouts give me yellow shards and triple battle dropouts give me red shards.

I would imagine so. Also, I just got lucky by getting a bunch of the same coloured shards in a row, it's completely random which color you get. On the plus side of spending the hour trying to get one more red shard, i now have 10-20 shards of each other color. Next time I come across a tutor, I'll be set.

I am a casual player when it comes to Pokemon, as in I don't care that much about stats and all that, but I'm still interested in having a generally competent team. My party's been in my sig for a while, but here's an in-depth thing.
