This was probably said before but maybe there is a MAIN Birdo such as the MAIN Green Yoshi. THAT Birdo could be a girl.

Even though I don't believe the sports/party games to be canon, I still think Birdo is a species.
1. There are Red and Green Birdos in SMB2.
2. The Birdo that was Popple's partner in M&L:SS doesn't speak in exploding symbols. The other one does.
