I finally played Mario & Luigi: Brothership last night. So far I'm enjoying it, but I'm still really early in the game so it is very difficult for me to say at this time how it compares to the first four M&L games. But it's already a lot more fun than Paper Jam, that's for sure.
Hi friends, here are some more exciting updates about my Christmas!:
I opened lots of great presents, of which the best by far were a collection of four Ever After High books: The Storybook of Legends, the Unfairest of Them All, Once Upon a Time, and Fairy's Got Talent (this is my first time reading any of the EAH books despite having been a royal fan of the show for almost 2 years), but other hexcellent gifts included:
Several vegan chocolates
Mario & Luigi: Brothership. I haven't played it yet because today's been too busy , but I definitely look forward to trying it tomorrow and will make a post about my thoughts on it.
A vegan Mediterranean cookbook, which looks royally useful
A strange book of poems and letters from my brother which I had never heard of and am kind of unsure about, but it does look kind of thought provoking so I'll give it a go.
A new set of pyjamas
Some skin care products
I had my first ever after vegan Christmas lunch. In the end I didn't really cook my own thing, I just bought a vegan mock turkey from the supermarket and heated it up, simple as that! Definitely a lot easier - and cheaper - than my parents and brother cooking a real turkey. I had that with usual vegetables - brussel sprouts, parsnips, carrots, and roast potatoes. I also had vegan gravy. I had some fizzy apple cider to drink with it - I chose that drink because Applejack brings some to prepare for the Fall Formal in Equestria Girls. I've never after tried it before but I somewhat like it - tastes pretty much like apple juice but alcoholic and carbonated.
I watched some DCSHG short episodes, some of which I haven't watched in about 3 and a half years so it was almost like watching them for the first time since I didn't remember them. That was a lot of fun.
I watched a ton of Ever After High, and as of today it is (I believe) now finally true to say that I have watched 100% of the content of the show including all webisodes and specials, until today there were a couple of webisodes that I hadn't seen even though I've been a fan of the show since early 2023. So I think it works nicely that today I finally completed the show, and today I finally get to start reading the books!
I played some board games with family.
I made pizzas in the evening! This is also my very first time trying the Violife vegan cheese, which I've been looking forward too as I've heard good things about it. It's a great cheese and definitely the best vegan cheese I've ever had, but I'll admit it still isn't quite as good as dairy cheese.
I watched a bit of the Great British Bake Off Christmas Special.
I decided I didn't want to wear my usual red leotard and white tights this year because they're too old / not warm or comfy enough, so I instead decided to wear a blue leotard that I got for Christmas a couple of years ago and I found that a lot more warm and comfy to wear. During the day I also wore my simple but nice red dress and some very comfy black tights.
I didn't have any family or friends other than my parents or siblings over today, but I am going to visit some friends and family in the next couple of weeks! I did call my maternal grandmother though, and I'm happy to report she's well, although she wasn't too fond to discover I'm vegan now.
All in all, this was a fairly busy but really lovely Christmas, probably the best I've had since 2021. Today's almost over for me (it's 11:47pm in the UK) but I'm definitely going to have a lot of fun in the rest of the 12 days of Christmas.
Just finished my yearly tradition of watching My Little Pony: Best Gift Ever on Christmas Eve and I enjoyed it a lot, but honestly I'd say maybe I overrated it a little bit when I gave it a 9/10. The songs are both really good though, that's for sure.
I'm headed to bed now as it's past 11pm in the UK and I always prefer to be asleep by midnight to let the Christmas magic do its work! It's very exciting - yet to be honest, very hard to believe - that tomorrow's Christmas Day already! Time really does fly. I'm definitely looking forward to an awesome Christmas season this year, and I hope you all have one too!
Before I go, I wanted to share some pictures of some Christmas Eve bakes I did today - a Shepherd's pie and an Apple Cider and Spiced Bundt cake. They're both vegan - the "lamb" in the pie is a soya-based meat substitute. I was extremely happy with how the Shepherd's pie turned out - especially considering that I've never done one before - but the Bundt was just ok to be honest.
I had a great time going to the pantomime last night. It wasn't quite as good as previous years but it was still lots of fun, and I'll definitely go again next year! I usually get some ice cream during the interval, so this year I went for a sorbet instead and that was really nice, so it's good that I don't have to give up on that part of the tradition either!
My Christmas Holidays just started today, so to keep with my 10 or 11 or so year old running tradition, here's my fish and chips from my favourite local fish and chip shop - now vegan for the first year ever! - to celebrate the start of the holidays (with a glass of chocolate soya milk on the side)! I don't know how they do it, but this was delicious and a super impressive replica of the taste and texture of fish using only plants!
Hey MiracleDinner I said this on the "Hotdogs or Hamburgers" thread already but be careful; I heard there was an E Coli outbreak at McDonald's involving their "Quarter Pounder" hamburgers (or maybe they're cheeseburgers; I don't remember) so you should probably not eat those right now. Might not want to eat at McDonald's just in general for a while until they find out what contaminated ingredient(s) caused it.
Here's my pumpkin I carved today! The front is ok, the back was not quite as good as hoped since I ended up cutting the left wing way too big (and it's poorly shaped too), which makes the heart shape less obvious (I've had some people say it looks like a bat, which is Halloween-y, but not what I was going for!) and makes it go dangerously close to the crown and the bit between them only just stayed intact. The crown was pretty good though. Can anyone here guess what these symbols mean? (will reveal the answer tomorrow if nobody guesses it)
Hey Dracula Robin, I know a lot of Teen Titan fans hate Teen Titans Go but personally I like both shows. Teen Titans has really good drama and action and heart and Teen Titans Go is funny.
Welp, August just started less than 10 minutes ago. I can't believe how quickly 2024 is flying by, before you know it we'll be halfway through the decade. At least I still have a month and a bit of summer holidays left, I intend to make it count.
Let's go, 14 years of Tory government is over!!!
And yes I don't love Labour but they're immensely better than the Tories, especially when it comes to trans rights
Also the person who I voted for in my constituency won and I'm thinking of writing to them
Let's go I just did LSJ for the first time ever after! (edit: LSJ stands for Life Shroom Jump, a frame-perfect glitch that lets you Flip, and subsequently jump, if you revive with a Life Shroom in midair, in this case after dying to the 3d meter whilst jumping across the gap that normally requires the green bridge)
By skipping Thoreau you unlock him after beating the level and even activate a special message that normally isn't possible to see in normal gameplay!
