So I just found out the hard way that it's actually possible to get softlocked in the Flipside pit if a Koopatrol has the key and you only have 2 attack power, no carrie, and no attacking items 
I was trying to do a run of the pit at the earliest possible point in the game (just after you get Boomer in 2-1 though with glitches you can enter in the Chapter 1 intermission)
