You guys.

I'm pretty sure we can ban him for being a jerk and refusing to stop now.

The only truly horrible thing is like I said: The staff finally gets the chance to make a 66-minute FiM related thing. And this is what they got to end up doing? They've done wonders with the two-parters they've made
i'm going to stop you right here aren't wonders supposed to be you know good because none of the 2 parters i've seen have been anywhere near good

I'm pretty sure this is something we already agreed to disagree on. :S
doesn't mean I can't constantly remind you :3

Idunno, I feel that all the reactions were always kind of mixed, without either side really dominating.

Also Shoey if your sole purpose of being here is to antagonize, I suggest you take your top hat and shoe somewhere else.

I'd normally post something like this in the Mindless Junk Pony thread. But I think it's true for me, and some others and relevant enough to post here.

Hey, guys. What would the pets sound like if they could talk? Here's what I think.

Angel Bunny: Gilbert Gottfried
Winona: Roz Ryan
Opalescence: Eartha Kurt
Gummy: Tom Kenny
Owlowiscous: Rob Paulsen (more specifically, his Jack Fenton voice)
Tank: Kevin Michael Richardson

Well, tomorrow's the big wham episode of the season. Judging by what we have so far, by the fact of Alicorn Twilight and hints of
this episode being more of a musical then any previous episode
. That this episode is going to either be a love it or hate it type of deal between fans of the show. With not much of a grey area inbetween.

I loved it, I'd say more. But there was so much to love about this episode. That I'd need to sit down and pause evry few seconds just to see some of the details I might miss on the first watch just to list them all.

Mason gets it

Mason so gets it

*breathes in*

It was honestly too packed, which killed any tension or drama, and had far too many songs (I liked maybe 2 of them, honestly). Twilight's "destiny" came suddenly, had no foreshadowing, and if anything goes against what the series was supposed to be in the first place (you can be a girl without being a pretty princess!) The episode was clearly directly commissioned by Hasbro to sell toys. Not to mention that it's basically a giant middle finger to everyone whose favorite character isn't Twilight. Season 3 was doing a good job at making it about six main characters, and then one of them gets pegged above the rest? Given that my favorite character is an earth pony, I couldn't help but resent that.

3/10, for Derpy/Vinyl/liquid pride/the "True True Friend" song against everything else. Congrats Merriwether, you are no longer the worst writer of the series.

And so ends Season 3, AKA "WE COULDN'T THINK OF ANYTHING SO WE JUST RECYCLED STUFF FROM FANFICTION AND EARLIER GENERATIONS. WE RECYCLED FROM SOME REALLY GOOD FANFICTIONS FOR THREE EPISODES"

This episode was pretty much that in a nutshell. There were some parts that actually worked, some parts that really didn't, a few plotholes, but overall it wasn't nearly as bad as "One Bad Apple".

I was kind of optimistic about the alicorn thing because I wasn't expecting it to be permanent, but now I'm pretty disappointed, but I think some good may still be able to come out of it.

@Gummy

There was foreshadowing. Very subtle foreshadowing, but foreshadowing nonetheless. Starswirl's book appeared at the end, and there was imagery in the background when Twilight was talking with Celestia and Luna in the Crystal Empire. Also think about it, Twilight as a filly was foalsitted by Cadence. Who was a princess herself, she'd end up getting her Cutie Mark and be trained in the magical arts by Celestia who also is a Princess, and she would later return Luna to who she once was. She was already alot more powerful then alot of ponies, she's no normal Unicorn. She's also saved the day more times then Celestia and Luna have of late. And saving Equestria used to be their job at some point. They are clearly passing some of this mantle onto Twilight now. Twilight through friendship letters, her ever increasing progression in magic and the trials she's face grew, grew, and grew her as a character throughout the series. And it was obvious she was destined for something great.

Another point I want to say is that being a Princess is under different rules in Equestria. Princesses are strong leaders, powerful magic users, and I'd even say overall badass at times. A Princess in Equestria isn't someone who gets kidnapped every week like Princess Peach or just sits in the castle looking pretty. When you talk about princesses in this show, you should not judge it by the stereotypical fictional portrayal of princesses.

I think this would have worked great as a series finale, maybe at the end of say Season 5 or Season 6 or something. There's a good chance it was originally meant as such. But for Twilight to be an alicorn among earth ponies, pegasi, and a unicorn for however long the show continues to go on just seems a little strange and, dare I say, a little unfair to the 5/6 of us who like some other mane cast member most.

I'd be inclined to agree with you on the princess thing, but that's not really how it was presented. Completely ignoring (or more accurately, putting online) the first half of the episode, which I actually liked, The Hub slapped on a beauty pageant winner and advertised it as nothing but the Princess Coronation. However, that's probably more Hasbro's marketing to blame than the actual writers. Meghan McCarthy did just say that this is actually a three-parter, so I'll calm down a bit and hold my complete judgment until fall 2013.

Yeah that's not the show's fault. That's those who were in charge of advertisement who thought "Oh the finale's going to have a character become a Princess? Let's get Miss America to advertise this! She's obviously the closest we can get to a princess!". I have to admit I was kinda rolling my eyes at her. But those little ad breaks didn't ruin the episode any less for me.

And I understand the concern about Twilight kind of overshadowing the rest. Though I'm sure we'll be back to seeing more great episodes of the others to come in Season 4. Especially since it will have 26 episodes. We have yet to hear what exactly being a Princess means for Twilight, especially her relationship with her friends. That will make for some interesting speculation until then. It might also be strange to see an Alicorn among normal ponies, but at the same time I don't think it's totally impossible. This just means we have a new focus for Twilight-related episodes.

also where was Derpy I missed her

She was in the crowd during the Chariot scene. She can also be seen when Shining Armor said "Liquid pride".

And Like I said, this was going to be either a love it or hate it kind of episode. There's going to be no grey area with this episode. I stand by that I loved this episode to death.

There is a grey area, and it's me.

Hello.

I think I am also SiFi, I'm not really sure how I feel about the episode, but I think I have to agree with Gummy's sentiment about TS being pegged above the rest.
