The main fuss over the last round of name changes was the fact that people were taking other people's names and it got confusing. You need to pick a completely unique name or otherwise you will get confused with someone else who had taken it previously. There's a big list in the OP that has names that are free for the taking.

The reason 3K and other users were miffed was because three people have taken the same name "gallowsCalibrator" (Terezi) which gets really confusing. In fact that's why I switched to Jack Noir, because it was a unique name.
