KANAYA: I Suddenly Dont Understand Anything And Am Currently Casting Sincere Doubt On The Laughable Insinuation That I Or Anyone Else Ever Actually Did For Even A Single Moment
Homestuck.
I also like how John pretty much voiced all the concerns with what he's retconning that we all have, even including the "but does Vriska's ghost just stop existing?" question. I feel like HS is probably filled with in-story dialogue meta-ly mimicking RL discussions, but I just never got to fully appreciate it until now, since the rest of the story was archival... Anyway, if Hussie's lampshading all the problems with the change-the-past plot, hopefully that means he's going to do something about it and make things make sense again before the act is up.

Yup, that is pretty much true.

I can't think of any good example off the top of my head, but one small one is a conversation Nepeta (was it her? I forgot) has with Aradia back when she was a ghost and prototyped herself. The exchange was something along the lines of "I didn't know you were dead" and Aradia saying something like "Don't feel bad, it wasn't that obvious". It was a jab at people not getting that Aradia's blank eyes meant she was dead the whole time.

Troll word for beans: Fart nibblets

That's pretty much what beans are.

I think the most obvious jab was the revelation itself.
She couldn't see you up until the moment after the sprite's second prototyping.

Because you were dead all along.

We are all completely blown away by this stunning revelation.

Wow. Dead. Really? Like a ghost?

Huh.

THEN there was that whole thing with the reveal of Calliope sharing the same body with her "brother"

But the fact that he's a slob was never exactly breaking news to anyone.

Neither is the fact that you both share a body.

I mean come on.
So yeah lol

Also why do I have this illogical feeling that the raider is going to be Aradia Megido?

Did people really question that she was a ghost until the narration spat it out? It seemed pretty obvious, and earlier narration even called her "spooky" and stuff iirc, but then again, I'd spoiled that whole plot for myself even before reading so I knew all along. Same with Caliborn and Calliope - like, how obvious was it that they were sharing a body anyway? I couldn't tell how effective the hints were in being hinty yet coy (since they were just foreshadowing the forgone conclusion for me).

Aradia seems too passive now that she's a God Tier, tho. She's cool to just sit back and watch as the dream bubbles are destroyed, and will help if asked, but doesn't seem like the type to lead anything anymore. Unlike in her soulbot form, which was pretty active. (It's the opposite of Jade, who was passive until she went God Tier and unlocked her true active alignment.)

I didn't guess that she was a ghost, because to my knowledge back then it hadn't yet been established that white eyes means dead. I thought maybe she's some sort of troll demon or a witch or whatever.

Then again I didn't really care all that much when I read that part for the first time. Back then I started reading the comic because 2257 was into it, liked the part with the kids, and then started hating it when the Midnight Crew intermission came along. After that I didn't give a shit anymore and only kept reading out of a sense of obligation. It took a while until I started genuinely liking the comic. When my second "now I give a shit" reading happened, I already knew that Aradia was a ghost.

I did guess the Calliope body share thing though.

They're too happy. Just like Vriska and Meenah were - complete with the hand-holding and everything. Clearly, some bad shit is about to go down.

did i miss something important or why does john have one of the rings

didnt everything reset when he went back in time or is there some bullshit im missing

damn it john come back

i want the comic to still be available in this timeline

So I was walking to town to buy groceries today when I suddenly had the stupidest, most implausible idea ever.

What if the mystery leader is Tavros? Without Hussie trying to propose to Vriska (since she is still alive now), maybe he found the ring of life, and for whatever reason decided to stop being useless (Page powers?). Then, using his animal control powers, he wrestled control over Jade away from the empress and made her go somewhere out of the empress' reach, so she couldn't help Jane with fending off the rebellion.

...

This makes no fucking sense.

I am totally rooting for that possibility now. But I'm still rooting for Larry more.

i thought the leader was going to be WV so obviously i'm quite far off the mark

^That would so much bullshit, that it's possible and I would stop reading the comic just like I did for trickster mode.

To be honest, I don't think it's completely out of the question. I mean, all the Alternian and Beforian trolls, while different, share similar fates/characteristics. Like, both Eridan and Cronus are creeps who can't hook up with anyone. Aranea and Vriska are both bitches. Equius and Horuss are both high bloods that fell in love with lowbloods even though it went against their beliefs. Gamzee and w/e his ancestor's name is are both insane and believe in absurd clown religion, etc. I think it would be interesting if, like Rufioh, Tavros becomes the leader of a rebellion against the queen that is eventually a success. I mean we also do know that, unlike Vriska, Tavros's power is in full control when using it on other sessions (i.e. Vriska couldn't control John and the others, only put them to sleep but Tavros was able to easily control Bec to save Jade's life), although I don't think it was every explained if he could control half animal-half human characters.

I mean, I'm not saying this because Tavros is my favorite troll or anything...

In the end, it's likely going to be Vriska like others have said here. There's a reason her death was prevented. Maybe it actually has to not do with her in the present, but the stuff she did/does in the dream world though...I hope we get answers soon...

This makes no fucking sense.

Remember, we're reading Homestuck.

Technically it was. The power that the empress is using to control Jade is the bronze blood animal control. It shows up as a combination of bronze and cobalt blood powers, but then dissolves into just the former. Probably because either the empress is realizing the cobalt mind control doesn't work right on humans, or she's sedating Jade while taking over her dog mind.

Either way, it is very likely that Tavros would be able to control Jade.

I wish it were Tavros, but sadly, that's very unlikely. I'd rather see what becomes of him in the pre-retconned timeline anyway, after he gains his confidence and flies away.

I was pondering the comic last night, and I remembered how conspicuous it is that Dirk also has Yaldabaoth. That's gotta be building to something more than just the Caliborn-Strider parallel stuff, hopefully relating to John's powers and a non-retconny resolution (but maybe that's just wishful thinking). Sollux, Terezi and Kanaya never being shown in God Tier outfits also still has me wondering - Equius and Nepeta were the only other ones missing from the Minisprite, but that could easily be because Hussie considers them joke characters whose deaths would never amount to anything. But the other three? Especially considering the lack of non-minisprite Mind and Doom designs? I dunno, it just feels like Hussie saved them for a reason (which begs the question of why we did see a God Tier Karkat).

HOLY SHIT!!! HOMESTUCK HAS MADE SENSE TO MEE!!!!!!

John died in Jade's thing because new John was coming. We figured that.

But I can't believe I didn't realize that Jade and Jane - who were not dead based on their eyes - were asleep as soon as we figured out Vriska was still alive.

Roxy died in Jane's - who we now realize is also in Jade's same timeline - because of the Roxy from John's doomed timeline coming with him on his planet. His planet also exploded in Jade's thing because the planet is coming with John!!!!!

I just...everything pieces together so well, and now everyone that has been dead since pre-scratch is now no longer dead. HOLY CRAP!!!

It suddenly hit me...omg...everything just fell together perfectly, all in this one update.

I just figured they'd have to be revived and it'd kick off a resurrection konga, but yeah, Vriska simply knocking them out is a much more eloquent way for it all to slot together. Combined with the earlier stuff about how they weren't sure that they were dead or asleep, and then just started assuming they were dead (making us assume as well), it's all very nicely done (and good planning by Terezi - guess she wasn't just avoiding her own psyche getting railroaded - wonder if the "don't need him" stuff has a big payoff too). Really, the only outlier I can think of is Jaspers: even the duplicate of John's planet got cleared away, yet Jaspers wasn't on LOWAS, just John and Davesprite, so he should still be alive in the extra timeline. Yet Hussie went out of his way to show him on the cleared LOWAS, so there's gotta be a reason for it...
