Didn't want to bump this, but since it has been:

What new elements did Korra bring to the table? I didn't really notice many new things, besides plot, setting, and characters of course.

well it continued the story of a show we loved so much. was it better than TLA? no. did it satisfy our thirst for more of the avatar world? yes :')

I agree with Jorge. Say what you will about Korra. It's not like it's ruining the reputation of the original series (Especially compared to M. Night's Live Action movie) and gives a whole new perspective and with 3 more seasons on the way more episodes to explore the world we loved in the original. Even if it's in a slightly more futuristic approach since obviously it's almost a whole 2 generations after the original.

Also I couldn't resist this joke. I'm sorry in advance.

Nabber, you so silly. You know there's only 4 elements.

wait are you implying something with that smiley

the 5th element is cookies

Goddamn it Jorge you spoiled the ending of Season 2 of Korra for all of us!

metal is a branch of rock bending and lighting is also a more advance version of fire, just as Ice bending is sort of more advanced than water bending

The real advanced Waterbending seems to be Bloodbending. (Which I know Jorge dislikes because of how creepy it is to him)

But of course I knew what you meant. I was just making a joke :P

I know. I was watching Book 1 the other day (finished the Storm yesterday) when I wondered, "Were there any new things introduced in Korra that weren't in Avatar?"

Republic City's probably a big one. And of course all the new characters. But I suppose that's all I can think up on top of my head. But was Korra supposed to bring so many new things that the original series didn't? I don't think that's the case. And even if it did bring alot of new things it might be cause for some controversy between those who like all the new stuff or those who didn't. Which always comes up with sequels like this.

And Korra's just an expansion on the Universe. There will be debates especially after the series is over on if it was better then the Original series or not. (Though if you do it now, A:TLA wins in a landslide. But it's unfair in the first place because you have only 12 episodes against 61) But right now is not the time to think the 2 series as if they're in some sort of competition.

But wasn't that what Avatar was all about? Discovering a whole new world, filled with all these mystifying concepts? You can hardly call Republic City a good setting - you barely saw any of it - and the characters weren't complex at all.

PROBENDING
That's basically fighting in an arena. I don't think that qualifies as something new.

So I just watched Jet. And all through the episode I was waiting for someone to tell Jet that he had become as bad as the Fire Nation, but it never happened.

twas but a joke kid

youre right though, and it was going to be hard to fill 12 episodes of story if there was much exploring to do. which is thankfully why were getting more seasons of it in which korra will travel out of republic city. i do think they couldve used their 12 episodes in a better way but doh well

"youre as bad as the fire nation" is avatar's version of "youre as bad as hitler" ?

Oh, you're watching the original series. I'm doing that too. I borrowed Books 1 and 3 from the library (didn't have 2 in store, sadly.)

Well, that's not exactly the way I was thinking about it.

Now Nabber I agree with you on that the Original Series is way better then Legend of Korra. Only difference is that I still like Korra while you don't quite as much. The characters not being very complex (The only character I'd say that isn't somewhat complex is Mako.) and Republic City not being a good setting are your opinion. While in mine, both Republic City and most of the characters were interesting enough even if they pale in comparison to the cast of the original series so far and most of the places we saw. As for mystifying concepts, I have a feeling Season 2 will have more of that considering it's called Book 2: Spirits. Korra just wasn't as spiritual as Aang was (Aang was spiritual from the very start. Being a monk and all) in the first season of Korra. Now that Korra is able to contact Aang and most likely go into the spirit world you'll see more of that now.
