Unpopular opinions about the Mario series

Are you sure that your stance on the Wario-Waluigi pair and the Toad-Toadette pair must inevitably be extended as well on the Peach-Pink Gold Peach pair? If anything, the former ones aren't composed of the same character in different conditions...

Pink Gold Peach wasn't made to be anyone's partner, as there is no partner system in Mario Kart 8.

And yet Pink Gold Peach does share the same stats as Metal Mario.

...ok

characters share stats with other characters in the game, i dont see people going "rosalina is roy's partner"

Actually, the pair I'm talking about is Metal Mario-Pink Gold Peach, as it's commonly stated (although I'm not sure if it's absolutely confirmed) that Pink Gold Peach is supposed to be Metal Mario's partner, despite there not being a partner system in the game, nor anything that suggests she's Metal Mario's partner other than that she's the only other "metal" character in the game (not counting Gold Mario in MK8DX)

I've also heard word that her entire purpose was to be a partner for Metal Mario in the first place a la Toadette and Waluigi, and that the developers created her because they felt that Metal Mario was "lonely" but I don't have any confirmation on that either so as far as I'm concerned it's merely rumor.

Regardless, rumor or not, I never had any specific reason to directly hate Pink Gold Peach like other people do, especially when for a stock character she's at least original and a new concept and not just taking some of Mario's transformations and making them new drivers, whether or not you'd like to consider Metal Mario exactly that is up for debate, but that'd be digressing.

There's also nothing that actually suggests Pink Gold Peach is the same character in different conditions either, as she hasn't showed up anywhere else except for spin-offs where such a transformation isn't present, and nothing there implies that she's just Peach in a transformation, and given her apparent ties to Metal Mario, who has previously been stated to be one of Mario's rivals, and the fact you can't be the rival of yourself, I think it's reasonable to believe they're two separate characters.

That's what tends to bother me with Rosalina and Waluigi. They're tall characters, but they should be in a lighter weight class than Donkey Kong and Roy Koopa.

Probably just for character type variety.

Besides being heavy has it's advantages.

Sometimes I feel like Toadette should be in a slightly heavier weight class than Toad, because of her pigtails

Still, Rosalina and Waluigi could've at least had less weight to boost their acceleration and traction statistics. Is it really that hard to give a few large body frame characters the option to utilize a 5/6 acceleration vehicle combo?

I'm also saying this, because Nintendo had no problems making Metal Mario one of the heaviest racers in Mario Kart 8, and yet he has a medium body frame.

The pigtails may not weigh very much though.

That's actually bothered me before, too. I don't entirely get how tall = heavy, especially when Waluigi is supposed to be incredibly thin and almost spindly, so it's just weird to have them in the same area as Roy Koopa or Donkey Kong, characters of which you expect to be that heavy.

Waluigi was classified as a medium character in Double Dash, so Nintendo did consider it. I dunno why they changed it.

If they rode a Medium sized kart, they would look like this.

Still, I don't see why they can't just be middleweight and drive the large karts when Metal Mario can do just the opposite.

stuff about pigtails
Wait, why would pigtails make someone weigh more? Hair doesn't weigh that much. Even if Toadette's pigtails aren't hair, they still wouldn't weigh enough to move her up a weight class.

Nonsense, pigtails weigh 1000 lbs per tail

Amusingly, in Mario Kart DS, you can pair the heavyweight characters with the Mushmellow.

I liked how the lower halves of DK and Bowser's bodies just vanished into the kart.

Waluigi already looks like that in most karts.

Dry Bones's The Banisher is by far the worst offender.

At least Waluigi's tall and lanky body didn't stop him from using any of the middleweight karts in Double Dash!!.

I imagine that they changed it for two reasons: the move to classify vehicles as different sizes, as well as the fact that there aren't many Large characters. I believe Mario Kart Wii is the first game where the size of each kart can be smaller or larger; switch characters in Mario Kart 8 and you know what I mean. In Mario Kart Wii, I think the developers wanted to have an equal representation for each class (notice how there are 8 Small, 8 Medium and 8 Large characters?), and it just happens that Waluigi could be classified as Large. On a related note, I think Baby Daisy is added to round up the Small class.

Still, I am satisfied with this change because it means that at least Waluigi is useful for having high Speed in Mario Kart 8.

Thank you for reading.

I don't think it has to do with weight, though Magikrazy has a point, why not make them drive large karts but have the stats of a middleweight?

One of my own Mario Kart roster concepts pretty much answers that dilemma. Of course, Rosalina and Waluigi would have to have more speed and less handling to differentiate them from the middleweights even further.

It would basically be the polar opposite of the way that Metal Mario and Pink Gold Peach were handled; they have the same acceleration, weight, and traction as the heaviest heavyweights, but their smaller body frames result in less speed and more handling.

The following roster concept pretty much takes a page from Mario Kart 8's stat distribution, but with some additional stat diversity.

It's not the most realistic roster out there, since there would have to be as many as 50 tracks so that everyone (excluding the Mii) has a Staff Ghost.

Cruiser and Metal have fewer representatives, since they're abnormal when compared to the other weight classes. Cruiser features large-sized characters who are too light or too thin to be heavyweights, but are too tall to be middleweights. Metal features medium-sized characters who are too heavy to be middleweights.
