Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Back on track

honestly 2 and 3 didn't bug me much. personally I was fine with clashing sprite styles (and its not a pain if you remember transparency) and I liked the battle system.

Also it's not too hard to change if you find the right scripts. I've seen side-view and even Earthbound-style battle systems (but the latter was 2K3 so whatevs)

just my two cents

All the battle systems I've seen still aren't the best, never seen an Earthbound one though.

To al scared of the mumbling/text thing, all that I need is a soundbite of what you are based on and make your text appearing noise when you talk. Just like in Banjo-Kazooie...

The "mumble" thing in Banjo got a bit annoying quick though.

I'd suggest a Mumble ON/OFF option....

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Back on track

I would use RPG Maker, but Game Maker has more possibilities and freedom.

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Back on track

Yes... I saw a plugin for Game Maker called something like RPG Creator....

New poll! Also, here's the message box. Keep in mind that the multiple other Smashers in the picture are dummy NPCs. They'll soon be replaced by me.

Yes, I'm using custom MPA portraits. It looks nice.

Or rather, that one is just a recolor.

Also, the area in that pic is the new New Wikisburg, but very incomplete. That house right there can't be entered yet.

If anyone bothered to check the OP, then you should know the game screen is smaller and Troll Koopas can now be hurt. I'm right now making some potential layouts for the HUD.

That oddball flower tile over there is just a marker for the message box. It's removed now.

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Message boxes, Smasher, and polls, oh my!

Pyro, you have done Unbelievably well. And that style of messagebox really suits the look. thats the way to go! do you have aa text appearance noise? And if there is more Text, an arrow
pointing down? A tip: remove the line between the picture of the talking person.

Yours ever so faithfully,

Razzoom.

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Message boxes, Smasher, and polls, oh my!

The line looks fine.

And great job, Pyro!

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Message boxes, Smasher, and polls, oh my!

Looks nice Pyro, this is going along nicely so far.

I think the line is fine.

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Message boxes, Smasher, and polls, oh my!

Looks awesome! I you're in need of dialogue for something, PM me.

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Message boxes, Smasher, and polls, oh my!

Oh yes, I can do a little bit of writing too. This is looking nice.

There aren't any SFX for the messages yet, but I'm going to add them right now.

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Message boxes, Smasher, and polls, oh my!

(No but really I would love to try writing, doing something for a video game is something I would really like to try, so if you have anything you need just ask)

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Message boxes, Smasher, and polls, oh my!

I can say this game is coming along quite nicely. I think March's issue is when I want to have the special section.

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Message boxes, Smasher, and polls, oh my!

Nice job Pyro!

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Message boxes, Smasher, and polls, oh my!

Also, how would you like the dialogue to be? Quirky, like the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi games? Or more realistic/serious?

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Message boxes, Smasher, and polls, oh my!

Quirky by a longshot.

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Message boxes, Smasher, and polls, oh my!

I like how I voted for the one with less votes.

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Message boxes, Smasher, and polls, oh my!

Pyro, if for some unknown reason you really need it despite your 66 million other helpers with this, i could always help with dialogue and that such as well.

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Message boxes, Smasher, and polls, oh my!

neither of these really look like smasher, the band thing wraps all the way around his head

Re: Super Mario Wiki Community Fangame - Message boxes, Smasher, and polls, oh my!

Smasher looks like a blind Yoshi that lost his Poochy.
