I hope that Grand Prix AI is as easy as in Wii, I don't want to have to work hard to unlock things.

No that is no fun. We need a challenge to have. MKW was kind of boring because the AI were too slow in 150cc. I like racing on a harder difficulty but not too hard like some of those wifi user racers. Even on custom tracks I had to add that file that makes the AI go faster. I want a challenge, something where I won't be in first for the entire time even though that's good being in first.

I smell a retro difficulty preservationist

Is there anything wrong with that?

Yes, and I am not going to add anything else! End of discussion!

You want difficulty in a Mario Kart game? How about playing with items on "hectic" in Mario Kart Wii, placing Toad's Turnpike as a custom track over anywhere compatible other than Moonview Highway, 150cc hard computers, light bike, and have the AI param included (Yes YoshiGo, that's what it's called) to have AIs insanely cheap and fast, and call it a day.

Why do you want any more difficulty in Mario Kart games? Can't it be already frustrating than it already is what with spiny shell spam? Don't you guys have online play if you want a decent challenge?

I am really looking forward to this. I'm really happy Moo Moo Meadows is back. :P

I'd love the ability to build our own tracks, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

Unless we get something like F-Zero X's that was on the N64DD

Not really. MK is too hard for me anyways.

Re: Mario Kart 8

huh out of all the mk games ive played the difficulty never seemed too easy, even when compared to hard racing games like f-zero gx and extreme-g 3.

I guess thats just me though, but i think its more about the tracks then the actual racer ai.

As people can use shortcuts through many tracks and you often wont find ai doing the same, of course its hard to program ai to do that, it would be interesting for you guys proclaiming that the mk series needs harder ai players.

Re: Mario Kart 8

same for me really

although due to me loving the xg series i actually became good at those games to the point where my brother, who is very good at racing games, declared that racing against me in extreme-g 3 was damn stupid due to the fact he always lost.

So really, it just depends on how much effort you put into said game.

Yeah, I have those times when it gets to much for me.

Re: Mario Kart 8

They need a track based off the Whoa Zone from Super Paper Mario. Anti-gravity would fit there perfectly.

I consider myself great at Mario Kart and I even get an enjoyable challenge out of playing 150cc in Mario Kart 7, mixed in with some REALLY asinine moments that ----ed me over at points

I don't think Mario Kart needs to be any more freakishly challenging than that. Go play online if challenge is what you seek.

Or better yet, play Mario Kart Super Circuit and try getting a triple star on all cups. That crap is REALLY hard to pull off.

Or a track from Galaxy would do

I have modded MKWii many, many times, almost as much as I have Skyrim, and I tried this. I could not get past two laps before I started swearing at my TV. But even though I was swearing I pulled it off!
I came 3rd.

Hey, I wasn't trying to start anything, I was just asking what was wrong with it. I mean, people are allowed to have opinions, even if you don't agree with it, correct?

I swear that they just been ramping up the odds of getting a Spiny Shell with each Mario Kart they make. MK7 was just hell with them since it was like twice a lap I would be bombarded with them. Worse was Rock Rock Mountain as I seemed to always get one right at the end as you're driving up the steep slope.

Re: Mario Kart 8

I'd rather they just kept the difficulty of MKW and reduce the rate of specific items occurring (read: Blue Shell), because, let's face it, the last thing you want to do is have to redo an entire Grand Prix because you get Blue Shelled at the end of the final lap of the final course and you have to redo the entire thing because you got second place/you didn't get a 1-2-3-star trophy/didn't unlock a certain character, etc. Unless for some odd reason you don't enjoy doing that, but I don't really have the time to be re-doing everything over and over until it's just right. Don't even get me started if MK8 decides to have a Special Cup like Double Dash did.... And I'd rather not have rubber banding AI. People call these "difficulty". I call them complete and utter bullshit.

How long have you been playing it for? Because when I started, I found it too hard, MKWii especially.
Now I'm epic at it. Practice makes perfect.

Re: Mario Kart 8

I think they should keep the Blue Shell in the game, but I think should not have it appear in the final lap.

While that would put stress of racers, that just makes it anti-climatic because you know nothing's going to stop you. At most, just reduce the chance on the final lap.

Re: Mario Kart 8

Or just make it have the same appearance rate as always.

Blue shell's aren't even that big of a problem, they can cost you a race (if you're not ahead enough that getting hit by any item would drop you from first to anything lower, but at that point you can see a blue shell on the bottom screen -> slow down -> avoid -> reclaim first so it's still not a big problem) but races only last 3-4 minutes at most. A minor inconvenience.

They are overpowered if you don't prepare for one but there are ways to minimise how much it affects you; stopping before a boost pad so that you have an easy way to re-accelerate comes to mind, slowing down so it changes target or catches another in the blast, etc.. Doing things like that can make it seem just as bothersome as a green shell that has a slightly longer stun time.

Fuck, Mario Kart Strats.

Re: Mario Kart 8

I agree completely, you can also just dodge them by timing a usage of a Mushroom well enough.

I also consider myself pretty good.

Am I the only one who ALWAYS plays on 150cc? The only time I don't is on Super Circuit, when I play 100cc. Speaking of Super Circuit, you're right, triple starring it is HARD. I've been trying forever and all I can get is the main 50cc cups.

No, you're not the only one, but I also play Mirror.

Yes, but "I" didn't want to start anything so I didn't go in depth on it.

I don't know what my skill level is at Mario Kart. I haven't played it in a long time, and I have zero online experience.

Yeah but first, it's hard to do and second, good luck getting a mushroom in first place.

I don't think there are any blue shells.

Re: Mario Kart 8

Well, you know what the good news is? Spiny Shells are nerfed in this game. Unlike Mario Kart 7, they don't flip you over twice in a random direction, you just get hit like you get hit a normal shell, with an explosion effect of course.
