Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Re: Mario Kart 8

I'm only just noticing that by Baby Park's colors being divided crosswise instead of lengthwise turns the entire track into one of Dr. Luigi's megavitamins.

Re: Mario Kart 8

I got Mario Kart 8 last month and I had lots of fun with it! My online rating is at around 6500 currently, which is not too shabby (I think).

One thing I don't get is the difference inwards drifting bikes and outwards drifting bikes. How can you tell the difference between the two on the vehicle selection screen?

Back when I attempted to obtain 3 stars in each GP race, I found the experience infuriating a few times because there are a few occasions where the CPU will make a comeback through either an unlucky item or zooming through shortcuts. The most notorious, in my experience, are the Special Cups in both 150cc and Mirror (whom I beaten with Daisy and Baby Daisy respectively). Beating Bone Dry Dunes, Bowser Castle and Rainbow Road in a row is a really tense experience. Although I have beaten the GPs with every character, I remember these two (among a few) because of repeated retries. I'm surprised to see that it didn't take long for me to obtain 3 stars in the DLC pack 1 GP courses, though I guess it's due to being more experienced with the game at this point. I would say that the one that gave me the most trouble is Mirror Egg Cup.

The thought of 200cc kind of worries me mainly because I am afraid with how I could handle that kind of speed.

I'm ready for the next batch of DLC!

Thanks for reading.

1. The icon for the bikes next to their names are different
2. Characters have a slightly different pose when they're idle

Re: Mario Kart 8

I find it amusing that Super Bell Subway is a Mario track in German (it's called Marios Metro), judging from the video above. I wonder if the one who wanted a Mario course that's something other than a circuit is happy about this.

Anyway, I can't quite get used to bikes, especially when it comes to turning. I guess I am more used to karts since they seem easier to control.

Thanks for reading.

Re: Mario Kart 8

german translators are lazy as always and make up either lazy (i mean come on, mario's ... is the most standard name in the entire franchise) or unfunny names (or just dont translate them at all if they dont feel like it)

Re: Mario Kart 8

Meh, in Dutch Subway was also translated as Mario's Metro. At least they bothered to put an acute in it unlike German.

Other translations are straightforward so I'm not entirely complaining. Ice Ice Outpost had a fairly good Dutch one (Toads Poolbasis (Toad's Polar Base)) so it evens out.

That's me.

It should be Mario's Metro so Mario can stop being associated with the most uninspired tracks in the game.

Re: Mario Kart 8

I had an idea a while back for a "Mario's Fort" track, but I'm not sure how well it would work.

Re: Mario Kart 8

Probably better than the cookie-cutter boringass Mario Circuits we keep getting in every goddamn Mario Kart game.

To be honest, I think MK8's Mario Circuit is the best Mario Circuit, it was actually good.

Yeah, if it didn't suck so hard as a battle track, I'd say it's one of the best. But in the end, it's still a goddamn circuit.

Re: Mario Kart 8

Mario's tracks are as interesting as Mario's personality

The main attraction has always been more racing than battling. Besides, there aren't that many DLC tracks that can be converted into Battle Mode arenas; GCN Yoshi Circuit, SNES Rainbow Road, and GCN Baby Park could've worked though.
