If a mainstream Mario game were to have a story like Paper Mario, atmosphere and characterization like Luigi's Mansion and a good combination of accessibility and difficulty (like Skyward Sword's Hero Mode), it would pretty much be the ultimate Mario game. I would preorder the shit out of it and I don't even own a Wii U.

Miyamoto hates stories in Mario games so don't see that happening any time soon.

The director of this game says he doesn't need Miyamoto helping.

NO ONE in Nintendo needs Miyamoto helping anymore. It's his fault Sticker Star sucks so much. It's his fault Nintendo decided to recycle the Wii instead of making a brand, completely new console. It's his fault Mario games are so lackluster nowadays. He needs to crawl back to his house with his wife and never step into Nintendo's offices again. If he wants, he can work on Zelda from his house. That's the only thing he still does remotely well.

So if Nintendo recycle the Wii, does that mean Sony have recycled the Playstation three times before.

I'm sorry, but the difference between the PlayStation X and the PlayStation 2 is HUGE, and the difference between the PlayStation 2 and the PlayStation 3 is HUMONGOUS. The only thing they have recycled over and over again is the controller.

Hence why I say this...

MIYAMOTO, GO AND F*CK!NG RETIRE ALREADY.
How can you say such a thing? Miyamoto is like the grandfather of gaming.

That doesn't change the fact that he doesn't have any fresh ideas anymore. The time comes for everybody.

Someone obviously hasn't played Pikmin 3, it seems. You whine too much.

I haven't, it's true, but remember Pikmin 3 had been in development for quite some time, and Miyamoto wasn't the sole developer. And yes, I do complain a lot. I like to do it. But then again, who doesn't?

I don't think Mario even NEEDS an elaborate story. He's not Final Fantasy, he's ---ing Mario; Rayman Legends has hardly any sort of coherent story yet I still hail it as the best 2D platformer I ever played.

That being said, I DO believe they need a DIFFERENT story other than Bowser kidnaps Princess. Hell, I was a little pissed that it was a Sprixie Princess instead of something much more powerful: that's right, a ----ing queen instead of a puny princess. Yeah, I personally don't dig this "King and Princess" culture personally.

he didn't say "complain" anser. he said "whine"

I'm sorry, I thought they were synonyms. English isn't my first language :( But anyway, I recognize I do whine (and complain) a lot.

Although I like Miyamoto I DIDN'T like his stance on Sticker Star

That sounds very pleasant to me.

Ummm... so Nintendo can do no wrong?
Not really. IMO, we do get many excellent Mario games these years, but several titles that Miyamoto wants to push (the major SMB things, etc) are not moving forward along other games. If Miyamoto fails, he should think it over or simply go to retire.

Anser, calm the fuck down. Miyamoto has done a lot for Nintendo, and though I agree that his current innovations in games have been rather ineffective, doesn't mean that he's a completely terrible person and stuff. Let's see you run Nintendo and all the projects and doing everything he has had to do, and see probably how much stuff he deals with on a daily basis.

And Dorayaki, I agree; the problem I have with Miyamoto is that he doesn't seem to get that when he makes a bad game, or a game that is not moving forward, he doesn't seem to get the message, and instead makes all the other games be more like those games, which in term brings the quality of those games down as well.

I do believe that once he retires, there will be some changes in how games are made - some good, some bad - but give the guy some credit for all the good stuff he has done. Sure, he bombed Sticker Star, but look at all the other games he has made really well.

Oh, for goodness sake, giving a story to a main Mario game is just stupid! We don't need a story. You know why? Because, if there's a story, we're going to be interrupted every few levels with "Oh, Mario, here's some more stuff about the plot". Or every world. The ONLY way I see it working is if they do it like Sonic Colours did it. Have some cutscenes, but make them more comic-relief than earth-shattering. And make it only happen after a boss battle, when we're expecting a break, anyway.

And about Miyamoto, I don't think he should retire or anything like that. I just think he should have less influence on story and narrative in other games. He can make fun gameplay, but I think we know he isn't used to telling a story.

Also, if you actually liked the storybook in the Comet Observatory, that's fine. But we all know if it wasn't optional, we would probably hate it.
