They did it in 3D Land, but it didn't have world themes to begin with so I guess it's not a good comparison.

I can't say I'm a fan of what both of those games did when it comes to World Themes.

I know, but 3D World appeared to have World themes, so it's a disappointment that hardly any levels adhere to the theme. At least in 3D Land, the worlds themselves tell you already that they have no themes.

I like worlds without themes like in 3D Land. They should include them more often. I personally love World 7, the purple forest.

The world themes always feel really tacky and only there to be loyalty to the brand anyway. I would rather a world of rather diverse levels then, like, 10 desert levels in a row, then 10 ice levels in a row, etc.

What a DlCK move by Nintendo to put your death count when you 100% the game. I finally got my five Star profile, and they soil it with a high death count. The only reason it is so high is because they force you to beat everything with all five characters. To save time, I ran through it with characters that no one was controlling. And obviously that will rack up deaths dramatically. My death count was 856. Not only did they not give me diddlysquat for all that work, they soil my 5 Star profile.

They don't force you to do anything, it's up to you to decide whether it's worth the effort to complete with every character.

I might not do it, depends if I like the game enough or not. I'll be playing through with Mario first anyway.

Oh come on my file had 1300+ deaths beat that >:D

Multiplayer doubled the death count. That stupid head stomp spin jump claimed more lives for me to just brush off.

What do you gals think of the overall difriculty of the game compared to every 2 and 3D mainstream Mario since and including New Super Mario Bros in 06?

There have now been more such games from 2006 (which wasnt that long ago) to now, then there were from 1985-2006 (!)

I dunno, I thought it was easy. Easy like every other Mario platformer. No change in opinion when it comes to difficulty. But I didn't care as long as I had fun.

The Mario series at this point is so formulaic I can't help but wonder if they could make a game difficult if they tried.

well mario games have never really been that hard, you might get an occasional game that can be challenging when it comes down to it, mario series is always been more accessible and more based on fun rather than raw challenge(not to say challenging cant be fun, but not a lot of games do fun challenging very well).

Personally though the main thing that needs to be seen is breaking trends, making good level design, having variety, and having good content.

Making a game fun and challenging at the same time can be.. well very difficult.

I think if you are the kind of player who likes a challenge the game should be played alone. Yeah I know even though multiple players is done as well as it possibly can be done in this game, there can still be accidental deaths caused by mistake to a teammate. But the benefits far outweigh any of that.

I know it can depend based on the skill level of your partners, but I know that for every additional ME, would have made the game that many times easier.

If I could eat cherries and clone myself. LOL.

They want to make the Mario games accessible to everyone, not just die-hard gamers. I'm pretty sure they could make a game very hard if they wanted to

Thats what I think it is. I think they have been catering the the casual audience. But I got a buddy who works at Gamestop who understands they want to reach out to the casual audience. But made the point that the more hardcore players have given up everything for the more casual crowd, every single time. And what has the casual crowd ever given up for the hardcore crowd?

I'm watching AttackingTucans' LP of the game.
There are just so many different features in the game.

I haven't watched anything except trailers and the final level so I'll be going into this without knowing anything.

Also, this is great;

So, third day of playing it (I played it two weeks ago when I was home and now I'm home again.)

Got to World Crown-Crown.

Died 40 times or so. Haven't beaten it yet.

I maybe died like 8 times at the beat-box area. 5 at the wall jumping area. 2 at the swinging spikes area. 1 time at the water area (which I'm pissed about as that's the farthest so far but because I didn't have a depth analysis, I accidentally popped out of the water from the front, and I couldn't get back in in time).

The rest of the times I died at the beginning area. All because of just wrong timing with the jumps and falling between the small pegs or being careless and long-jumping off of the moving blocks and just slightly off or accidentally bouncing on one of those SMG goomba-esque guys and making me fall. Once I get past that, I am golden (until I get towards the end).

I always feel stupid when that happens because it's like "idiot, why can't you just get past this area?" And when I fall between the pegs "Wtf (except for not abbreviated) Rosalina, had to land right between them?"

Yeah, though the good thing about doing it over and over is that I know now the fastest way through the beginning part, and I can bascially get to the end of the 1st part (up to after the peg jumping and charging chucks) to about 45 seconds.

Um, you know you can just run across the pegs, right?
