Overrated games

just let the people have their own opinion, guys.
I was merely providing an explanation as to how Sticker Star can possibly be considered overrated.

Anyway, moving on now. I don't know how I forgot these two, but Sonic Colors (Wii) and Generations (360, PS3, and PC) are pretty overrated. The latter game was especially a disappointment, in my opinion.

I hate how people hate on a game for being different, mind I don't think Sticker Star was amazing, it wasn't that flawed and yes it could being better but I still enjoyed it.

I never said I hated the game. It was a decent game. I just find it very disappointing and a little annoying when people on some sites praise it for being the best PM out there. Baby Luigi definitely knows what I'm talking bout.

I never hated a Mario game, other than NSMB2. Never owned it, never will. I am just very disappointed with some games getting high ratings when they really aren't that great.

Modern Sonic games.

I don't hate the blue teenaged hedgehog. i just hate his newer games, Doctor Robotnik was a cooler name then Doctor Eggman.

The name of this thread should be changed to "overated games that you love".

If you think about it, how many of you have played these games and got at least some enjoyment out of them?
Super mario bros 3 for example, highly overrated, but I still like the game alot and would play through it a hundred times more.(even though super mario world is way better)-matter of opinion.

Here's another one(this is gonna shock you) Super Mario RPG.

Some of you may ask,"hey Geno, how come you think SMRPG is overrated?" Well folks, lets face it, it's very overrated. It's been called many times"the best rpg on the super nintendo", we all know that statement is not true.

My point is, even though some games are highly overrated, you still play them and liked them. Don't lie to yourself, games like super smash bros brawl are overrated, but you love them and you know it.

1. Scores 2. A good amount of people I know that have played it call it one of the best, or the best, RPGs ever, and when it's brought up, some of them won't stop talking bout it.

Super Smash Bros is a bit overrated.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is praised by critics and many gamers, but it falls short when it is compared Melee. Don't make me rant again.

Super Mario Galaxy 2, the rehashiest, most unimaginative, and most uninspired 3D Super Mario game, manages to woo and tickle nearly every video game critic to death mysteriously. I know people can have their own opinions, but holy crap, I feel these reviewers are simply gushing honey and saccharine all over this rehash. Super Mario Galazy 2 is no Ocarina of Time (another overrated game, but at least Ocarina of Time was ground-breaking for its time. NOT Super Mario Galazy 2.)

Super Mario Galazy 2 also has ear-bleeding moments from a repugnant lizard.

It's hilarious that I strongly disagree with nearly every critic that praises Super Mario Galazy 2.

A "new standard for platformers" are you f---ing kidding me?

GamesRadar praised the graphics, saying that despite the Wii's technical limitations, Galaxy 2 "understands how to get the most out of aging technology that nearly all graphical flaws are smoothed over or covered up, leaving you with Wii's best-looking title to date".

Yet somehow, Rayman Origins, a Wii title, looks 50 million times more beautiful than Super Mario Galazy 2. impossible

Besides, it's the same f---ing game as Super Mario Galaxy. It uses the same exact models, same planets, same character designs, similar backgrounds. How can it look any better than Super Mario Galaxy!?

Super Mario Galazy 2 was so "good", it didn't have to do anything to earn being "Wii's best-looking title to date". You need special talent to achieve that.

I could go into vast detail, countering every point a critic mindlessly praises about this game, but I choose not to

But if you personally liked Super Mario Galaxy 2 because of your opinion, then good for you. Enjoy the game. However, it DID NOT deserve the vast praise it got.

F.E.A.R. would be extremely boring to me if it weren't so hilariously cute how it thinks it's a horror game.

LGM, Super Mario Galaxy 2 did have some original ideas and some changes, yeah it was a bit to similar but it was still enjoyable and feels like a game not an expansion pack.

I find Sonic CD to be very overrated. People where saying things like it is the long lost Sonic game so it got ported to pretty much every platform in 2011. Its really overrated IMO. Sure Palmtreee Panic is fun and so is the boss fight with Eggman on the treadmill but everything else I didnt really like that much.

It does NOT compare to the other 80% of the reused concepts in the game. For example, they literally freaking ported some levels from the first Super Mario Galaxy and made them their own world. Then, they TOOK concepts the first game had (fire/ice meeting, ball rolling through purple coins, boss fights such as Rollodillo and Peewee Piranha where you smack them in the ass just like the Dino Piranhas, etc.) and basically reskinned it. Finally, they had good concepts but fail to expand on it (Melty Monster being the biggest offender, where only ONE level actually took place in lava). I'd like to give the power-ups a good mention: Yoshi is constantly advertised as a major player in the boxart and other advertisements yet he RARELY appears in the game, the Cloud Flower is abused, and the Ice Flower and the Red Star could have been expanded on, but the developers had the need to take away both items for absolutely no reason at all. The Green Stars were tedious at best, especially with the freaking annoying alarm siren that pops up every single damn time you play a level and causes your ears to bleed.

Oh yes, Super Mario Galaxy 2 did had quite some great concepts that were well executed. I loved Beat Block Galaxy, Space Storm Galaxy, Throwback Galaxy, and maybe some other levels that I enjoyed. The music, as in any Super Mario Galaxy, is excellent, and visuals, though not the best the Wii has to offer (light years from it, actually) is pleasing, but only when you don't zoom up and see all the hideous, oatmeally sprite plants such as the leaves and flowers, not to mention certain character models.

Ok, I've been in much more detail than I liked, but to sum it up, the game in itself doesn't live up to the critic's claims. No way.

While I myself wouldn't give the game a ten out of ten (or something along the lines of it) like most critics have, I still think the game deserves at least some of the praise that it gets. Sure, Galaxy 2 wasn't that vastly different from the fist one, but that's what most direct sequels tend to do; they reuse the same gameplay engine (or one similar to it), and add new things, whether it's new level layouts, gameplay gimmicks, or otherwise. Contrary to what's been said, I thought Galaxy 2 brought a lot of interesting new things to the table. Again, I wouldn't give Galaxy 2 a ten out of ten, exactly, but I still think it's a pretty solid game.

I still don't think reusing elements and reskinning it makes it a good sequel. I've thought of better direct sequels, such as Majora's Mask or Super Mario Bros. 3 that were way better ways to deal with sequelization than Super Mario Galaxy 2. I never said Super Mario Galaxy 2 was a horrible game in any way, it's just that its greatness was vastly exaggerated by the critics.

Uh, to be fair, Majora's Mask re-used like 70-80% of the models from Ocarina of Time, so it didn't even bother to "Reskin" and heavily "reused" them.

Not saying Majora's Mask is a bad game or it didn't add anything new to the game, I like it, I'm just pointing out that it really isn't a great example when the main complaint is reskinning and reusing elements.

But Majora's Mask's gameplay is drastically different from its original compared to Super Mario Galaxy 2 and its precedence. If you took screenshots, without any prior knowledge, you can sorta tell they're two different games, due to the added day time thing HUD but in Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, there's hardly any difference. I understand you got a point there that Majora's Mask is a bit similar to Ocarina of Time, but it also stands out in aspects such as the time, transformation masks, and several other stuff that make it a vastly different game from Ocarina of Time.

I only like Ocarina for the plot. The gameplay is nothing special to me.

Batman Arkham City. It's just a 3D puzzle game. Yes, it's a good game, but SHUT UP. People are going so crazy over the (admittedly kinda surprising) ending and burying anyone who doesn't give it a 39/40 alive.

CoD and Halo.

Maybe it's not my place to say it, as I'm not a fan of shooters in general, but it's all anyone at my school talks about. It's always one of those two games. When I went to a new school, a guy asked me, "Do you play video games?" I said "Yes." He then asked me what my weapon of choice was or some crazy shit like that. I said "What are you talking about? I play Super Mario games..."

That guy seemed to have a grudge on me after that. I even heard him talking to his friends: "And then he said he played Mario."
"Mario??? PAHAHAHAH! Mario's for babies!"
