Re: E3 2013 Super Smash Bros. 4 Discussion

Mario needs to talk, but that's never going to happen.

Re: E3 2013 Super Smash Bros. 4 Discussion

Everybody playing either laughs or cringes at Roger Craig Smith's Sonic's corny dialogue.

He has talked once, though.

Not to mention he's made utterances in the games countless times; it's not like he's completely mute.

The "character movies" lead me to believe that each character will have an individual ending, which is the norm for most fighting games. I hope that's what he means here.
I feel like I was the only one who liked Subspace. I'm actually replaying it right now.

And if they just throw in Adventure More or something from Melee and don't give us a full story it will be a disappointment.

dont worry i liked subspace a lot myself, it was a shame there wasnt much character personalities and some bad level design though.

Personally i'd like to see something else like subspace just with a bit better level design and actual personality, although endings could be done for classic mode too, since people still like that.
So you want them to actually talk?

Yep. Kinda want to see how it's done, since subspace had no dialogue, so it'd be a nice change of pace.
But... Kirby never talks. Or Link. Or Ness. Or the Ice Climbers. Or ROB. Etc, etc.

well i dont mean all of them, most characters give gesturs and nods and whatnots, or maybe have villains talk maybe?

I just wanna see how it'd go

No, no, my point is that while I'm aware that I've seen Mario talking before (he has talked fully even before that), I don't see how Nintendo will ever make him talk like that in a game. It's a shame, because Mario sounds like he's going to be a funny, likeable character with more personality.

Well, I guess it's because they want to make him sort of a semi-silent character in the games, like Gordon Freeman or pre-Other M Samus, just not completely silent, since he's said many words in the games, just not a whole lot of fluent sentences like he did in that video (though, I think he said quite a few words at the ending of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon). The whole point of silent characters (or semi-silent characters, in Mario's case) are to immerse yourself into the character - or put yourself in the character's shoes, in other words.

too bad there really isnt much of place for you to be in, other games do this better where you constantly make decisions as that character.

Nintendo games not so much, im not sure if thats because they dont want to develop a main character personality or if they're afraid too.

making a main character can be risky too, as people could actually hate that character more with a personality than a character without.

regardless though it would be interesting to see characters like mario and link actually talk, although link did say COME ON in wind waker.

Re: E3 2013 Super Smash Bros. 4 Discussion

point denied by the fact that luigi also talks in cd-i and everyone loves luigi's voice now.

Or to a lesser extent, the DiC cartoons

and he said "come on!" in wind waker, so uh, yeah.

But what about Charles Martinet's voice? Just because their voice was crap in one non-Nintendo "game" doesn't mean Mario and Luigi should never, ever talk.

Re: E3 2013 Super Smash Bros. 4 Discussion

Bad things happen when silent characters talk. For proof, see Tom & Jerry: The Movie.

Re: E3 2013 Super Smash Bros. 4 Discussion

in other words you're too afraid something bad may happen to silent characters if they talk, never giving something a chance even though todays capability it could very well be good.

That's awful.

However, Mario does happen to make short phrases such as "Thank you so much for playing my game!" "It's a me, Mario!" "Yes!" "I'm the party star!" "Oh, no!" "Time to do it now!" "Just what I needed!" "Welcome new galaxy!"

Meanwhile, Tom and Jerry, especially Tom, make screaming "Yow!" noises, but that's it.

Mario can talk and not sound mind-blowing, unlike in Tom and Jerry.

That wasn't the main reason the movie sucked though

No, I mean the first one.

In other news, I found this somewhere that worries me.

And what about returning characters? I knew Sakurai wouldn't want to get too specific—Nintendo likes to announce characters for their big mascot fighting series with a dripfeed of news on the Smash Bros. Dojo website—but should fans expect all of their favorites from Melee and Brawl?

"The reality of the situation unfortunately is that there are certain limitations on the 3DS," Sakurai said. The 3DS and Wii U versions of the next Smash Bros will have the same library of characters.

"So we're forced into the situation where we may need to reduce some characters to a certain degree. but we're really working hard in order to include as many characters as possible."

hey SM

you forgot a certain part of this quote

"So we're forced into the situation where we may need to reduce some characters to a certain degree. but we're really working hard in order to include as many characters as possible."

so, i'm thinking that while both version will have the same amount of characters, and same library of characters

due to the 3DS's limited power, they simply have to scale down a few characters

like (note: IF THEY RETURN) olimar having less pikmin, pokemon trainer having one pokemon, etc

THEY FUCKING SANG, DANCED, AND TALKED

THAT'S NOT TOM AND JERRY

THAT'S A CAT AND A MOUSE, SINGING, DANCING, AND TALKING

Re: E3 2013 Super Smash Bros. 4 Discussion

On the subject of characters having voices, I think it'd be a neat touch to have some of the characters be a bit more chatty during a match. For example, we could have Mario say something like "You-a gonna fly now!" sometimes when he throws someone. It'd add a bit more personality to the characters and it'd be a nice change of pace from the standard YAH HI-YAH of most fighting games.

Like Soul Calibur? I would love that

That would be stupid. You might as well just include the Pokemon without the Pokemon Trainer.

I concur. I think that would be pretty cool.
