Looks like some characters are going to have a different Final Smash from Brawl's as we can see in this picture: instead of the Negative Zone which had nothing to do with Luigi, we're now getting a more Luigi-centric final smash, the Poltergust. Judging from Sakurai's quote, it seems it'll be used to suck people in. I was hoping it could be used to release generic ghosts and Boos at the opponents.
Well FINALLY, they changed up Luigi's moveset to include the Poltergust! Actually, if you look closely, it's the Poltergust 5000 from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, as opposed to the Poltergust 3000 from the original Luigi's Mansion. This makes WAY more sense then that trippy-ass Negative Zone that was barely justified as being Luigi's "dark side that he suppressed from being in Mario's shadow".

...Actually, it's not explicitly stated if this was a Final Smash or not. Then again, someone commented on the Super Smash Bros. Wiki that you have to draw the line between "playful toying with fanbase" and "deliberately misleading them", and saying this isn't a Final Smash would be crossing that line. After all, he's glowing like characters do during a Final Smash, so just saying that he just so happens to be using a move WHILE charged up to use his Final Smash would be really stretching it.

Not to mention, this move would make a lot more sense as a Final Smash then as a regular move. Mario using the F.L.U.D.D. as a regular move was interesting but, for me anyway, had very limited practical use. Similar, a regular move wherin Luigi just uses his Poltergust to suck in opponents, even if it's like Kirby and King Dedede's Inhale move, doesn't have that much use, either. As a Final Smash, though, I could totally see how it could work! Like, Luigi powers up his Poltergust, and a giant whirlwind forms, and Luigi has to suck up as many opponents as he can during a limited timeframe. Then, once he's sucked everyone up (or time runs out), he shoots them back out, resulting in an instant KO! Sounds pretty awesome to me!

Found this picture. They don't know where the origins are to this image, but it's looks pretty convincing.

Of course, April Fools is around the corner, so it could be that. Or it could have just been a fake image the entire time, but it's always fun to speculate.

EDIT - Hold on, let me "edit" the image for a sec...

EDIT 2 - Sorry, there was a finger that was not really neccessary from the image.

Nothing is official until Sakurai confirms it.

Besides, Chrom would be a newcomer. Sakurai saves newcomers for directs. Based in past history, there will probably be a Nintendo direct in April, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Admittedly, it DOES look an awful lot like how Chrom would look in these games, but yeah, nohting's official until Sakurai says so... Where did you even find this picture?

I found it on Gamnesia since I like them on facebook and I they post pictures here and there.

That's what really is throwing me off is that it looks very convincing with the art style and graphics for Smash Bros. 4. I want to think it is just a rumor, and it probably is, but it looks like it could be real. And yes, I know, Sakurai hasn't confirmed it, so it's not official, but I did say that we can speculate.

i think there's a chance this one is real (and i personally hope it is), but i'm not completely sold on it just yet

Why don't you just search for the guy in the appropriate wiki instead of asking these simple questions again and again?

i'm not buying the screenshot btw

Brawl also gave us Project M.
Project M is overrated as hell ice cream.

Brawl -, da best

Well, at least Project M has AI, better SD system, character groaning noises, and Mewtwo and Roy options. But it also has L-canceling, Fox clones, Fox/Falco favoritism, and hardly a way to edit the .brsar and the .gct file. Yes, L-canceling is bad. They should've just reduced the landing lag of each attack rather than input L-canceling.

The Chrom screenshot can be from another game, maybe.

I think L-cancelling was a legitimate mechanic before it was removed from Brawl; It was called 'smooth landing'. I have no idea what you mean by Fox/Falco favoritism though.

Exactly how is it "legitimate"? I mean, can't they just reduce ending lag instead of making people overwork their L-buttons? I don't approve of Brawl removing L-canceling because they haven't reduced ending lag either, so it removes the SHFFL game. There is NO upside to avoid using L-canceling, so it would be much appreciated for my shoulder buttons if L-canceling was automatic rather than inputted.

The modders seem to make sure Fox and Falco are the best characters while Falco was just reduced to being a Fox clone. That's stupid.

One more thing, Project M has a knack of dumbing down stages or replacing them into bland Battlefield clones. That's stupid.

It is legitimate as in they put it in because they wanted it to be a game mechanic. Wavedashing was noticed during development but not really cared about so it was left there. L-cancelling was intended to be there by the developers. I don't know why they added it but they did, that's how it is and it's a large part of competitive melee. Basically, Project M was made by competitive melee fans for competitive melee fans. L-cancelling is a large part of melee, remove it and you remove a large part of the game mechanics you are trying to replicate. That is counter-productive to what they wanted to create.

I think I saw something on the smashbros reddit today by M2K explaining to a lot of people that Fox/Falco are not the best, they just have the most experience and knowledge behind them because they are made to be incredibly similar to their Melee versions while other characters do not have this kind of advantage for now. A character with 12 years of knowledge you can find and learn compared to one with a year at most will have a difference in their ability. Falco is a lot like he was in Melee, a fox clone. Project M is intended to be very similar to Melee on purpose, because that is exactly its purpose. The game draws in melee players because it caters to them and they'd be pissed if their favourite character was changed because he was called a 'clone' when the characters have their differences, no matter how large or small they may be.

Dumbed down stages rely heavily on skill rather than luck, so of course their going to add more. I mean, it was made to be competitive (there's that word again, I wonder why I use it so much?) on purpose.

tl;dr: Project M is a more balanced Melee with more content with competitive melee as its focus. It was made to be competitive and so it has a lot of elements and additions to further that intention. 'that's stupid' is just your opinion anyway

Put it in a spoiler because this is a thread for Sm4sh, not PM.

Pic of the day. This may look like a side-scrolling action game, but it's actually one of the stages.

Honestly, I can't tell if it's a custom stage or a real stage. Like, it the background of it looks too complex for it to be a custom stage, imo, but at the same time, there's that generic orange spring from Stage Builder in Brawl and at the same time the level looks kind of bland. If it's a real stage, I'm clueless as to what game it's based on. I'm gonna say it's a Kid Icarus stage.

The spring screams custom stage to me, it looks so out of place there. There's no clear indication of it being from any series (except maybe Kid Icarus), but I'll be extremely happy if this is the stage builder and it really is as complex as it looks in this pic.

It's a Kid Icarus stage

Looks like it might be another stage that changes where it goes. I kind of used to like this type when I was younger but now I'm sort of iffy about it. I'd kind of like to focus on beating up the opponent, rather than try not to die to the screen moving around (rumble falls was the worst offender, the stage got more kills than anyone else. SPEED UP SPEED UP fuck no).

Now that I look at it, it looks like there is light coming in from above. Maybe the top is what we've seen previously and under the arena is this new area.

I'm not believing the chrom thing though, something just seems off about it (aside from it being just a rumor and a screenshot that came out of nowhere).

Maybe this could be a spiritual successor to the Temple stage.
