Hat has this got to do with Ridley?
In that Japanese commercial, it showed all-star more and Ridley was not seen alongside Samus. People thought this meant he wasn't there but now that we know you don't need to have every character, that would explain why Ridley is absent.

No Ridley yet sadly. If he doesn't get announced by October I'm calling it he's not getting in.
October is when this game comes out.

After that, it's dlc or naught.
DLC, much better.

If you can play all-star without all the characters, then that picture from the Japanese commercial is null and void. The Ridley train is still alive.

Not neccessarily.

All I say is that don't get your hopes up high.

For the heck of it, I did a bit of a timeline thing regarding all the known playable character in Smash 4 (Including the Newcomers from the Leak). This isn't going to be some sort of theory thing (Cause that'd be kinda crazy), I'm just doing this for the fun of it. This is only counting confirmed characters + characters from the leak. For those wondering why Ice Climbers aren't in the 80s for example is because I'm only counting those who we know are in Smash 4.

1980's (16 out of 49/33% of the Roster so far)

5 80s SSB64 characters (31% of 16)
Mario
Luigi
Donkey Kong
Link
Samus

4 80s Melee Characters (25% of 16)
Peach
Bowser
Mr. Game and Watch
Zelda

2 80s Brawl Characters (13% of 16)
Pit
ROB

5 80s Smash 4 Characters (31% of 16)
Palutena
Little Mac
Duck Hunt Dog
Pac-Man
Mega Man

Smash 4 has just as much new additions from the 80s that Smash 64 brought in so far

1990's (18 out of 49/37% of the Roster so far)

7 90s SSB64 Characters (39% of 18)
Kirby
Yoshi
Fox
Pikachu
Jigglypuff
Ness
Captain Falcon

5 90s Melee Characters (28% of 18)
Shiek
Ganondorf
Marth
Falco
Dr. Mario

6 90s Brawl Characters (33% of 18)
Wario
Diddy Kong
Meta Knight
Charizard
Sonic
King Dedede

Every previous Smash has included at least 5 characters that debuted in the 90s. It's interesting to note though that there isn't even one Newcomer in Smash 4 that debuted in the 90s. It's all characters as old as the 80s or have only been around for about 14 years or less. To be fair though, the 90s still hold the most characters confirmed in Smash 4. So it's not like the 90s are being ignored. Just in case of new additions it is.

2000s & 2010s (15 out of 49/31% of the Roster so far)

5 2000s Brawl Characters (33% of 15)
Toon Link
Zero Suit Samus
Ike
Lucario
Olimar

5 2000s Smash 4 Characters (33% of 15)
Rosalina
Bowser Jr.
Villager
Mii Fighters
Wii Fit Trainer

5 2010s Smash 4 Characters (33% of 15)
Greninja
Dark Pit
Lucina
Shulk
Robin

Smash 4 definitely has the most truly new additions out of any Smash game. 8 of the 15 Newcomers aren't even 10 years old yet. Heck 5 of them aren't even 5 years old yet, Greninja by his own won't even be a year old when the 3DS version of Smash Bros. releases. It's pretty obvious this time Smash 4 is alot more lenient on bringing in truly newer then new challengers into the fray then the previous games have been. In Brawl, the only additions that weren't even 5 years old at the time of their inclusions were Lucas, Lucario and Ike. In Melee, well Smash 64 was only release a few years before Melee was but the newest addition (that's confirmed for Smash 4, Pichu and Roy we know were definitely the newer then new. Roy in particular was in Smash before his game even released) at the time actually turned out to be Ganondorf & Shiek of all things but those were from Ocarina of Time and Ganondorf is a form of the longtime Zelda main antagonist. And Smash 64's newest additions were obviously the Pokemon which was got really popular very fast.

Again this isn't for some farfetch'd theory. I just thought I'd do this for fun. Obviously there are 5 characters left, two of them from the 80's and three of them are past the 2000's. Each era would have 18 characters. Oops.

Not neccessarily.

because your speculation is clearly superior to his amirite

Nope. Not once did I mention that. I simply said that it isn't neccessarily "null and void". Not once did I say that it was deconfirmed in any way.

However, calling that image I posted "null and void" as though it actomatically deconfirms it without knowing what stage of the gameplay this game is at and how many characters have been unlocked is saying that someone's speculation is superior to someone else's.

pretty sure he meant that it's "null and void" as an argument against Ridley

you can't use it as an argument against as against R, and you can't use it as one for R

unless i'm interpreting this situation wrongly in which case i'm dumb ignore me

Uh, you mean playable in Smash 4? Because he is part of the Leak, which has been basically confirmed cause of clear videos of gameplay plus Shulk's artwork matches exactly with his icon from the leak. So like it or not, we're getting Duck Hunt Dog sooner or later.

How come the Smash Bros. wiki doesn't say anything about it when it mentions every other leaked character could I at least get a picture aaaaa

Quickly found a picture for myself and come on Nintendo that is scraping the bottom of the barrel

Eh, he does represent something of Nintendo history. Even if it's just the accessory the NES Zapper. xP

I honestly think Dark Pit is more so the bottom of the barrel. But ya know.

We could have had Sablé prince but noooo he'd actually be an interesting character with a lot of potential he has to be an assist trophy.

he's not as well known though because he's never been outside japan

Marth retroactively confirmed for assist trophy in Melee so we can make room for the guy from Urban Champion.

He's a tired old joke among gamers.

So including him feels like forcing "it's over 9000" into every Dragon Ball game.
