Yeah, I think the least they could of done was make Ice Climbers into Ice Climber

Make Popo the default, buff him alot from how he is without Nana in Melee & Brawl. Make Nana an alt similar to Wii Fit Trainer & Robin. It wouldn't be the same, but at least they'd be in the game one way or another.

But the main charm to using them was the duo character thing....so taking it away would make them less of.a.unique fighter and less fun to play with

I think if given the choice. Ice Climber mains would probably take only one of them rather then none of them. Their duo mechanic is now confirmed to have been too much for the 3DS to handle and because Sakurai didn't want console exclusive characters. They had to be removed from the Wii U version as well.

Having only one of them might of been a decent compromise. Not to mention more faithful to the original game (When playing solo, you're Popo only)

I don't get why the two versions need the same amount of characters. I'm paying 20 dollars more for the Wii U version, it shouldn't be held back by a lesser version.

Not just them. More exclusive characters like Ridley, Mewtwo, etc.

Do you have anything intelligent to add to or refute the point that he made? Because the people in this topic complaining about the criticism of this game and telling everybody to overlook some of the questionable decisions made is really annoying.

Per this. God forbid I ponder questionable decisions, especially since Layton is pretty much a Nintendo handheld staple at this point and him not getting a trophy nor even a mention just seems odd. I know I'm being overly negative in this topic as of late, but there's just some design choices in this game that are real headscratchers.

Also, I guess you missed where I stated that I'm buying both versions of the game (paid off my 3DS order back in June and I've pre-ordered the $99 GCN one, to boot), and in case you missed the topic on the first page, yes I did say positive things. To save you looking for it, here:

-Music is fantastic. The Magicant, MM2 Medley, and Full Steam Ahead are on the top of my list.

-The stage selection may be shit for the most part, but there's a few gems in there, mainly Lumiose City, Paper Mario, F-Zero, and Magicant.

-Despite not being online, Smash Run still looks like a fun mode.

-Aside from the horrible CSS, the other menus looks great as always.

-Despite eradicating all signs of Mother 3 from SSB4, Sakurai really did a lot of great things for the other two Mother games. Magicant is pretty much a giant fan-service stage to the fans of both games, from the setting including the Flying Men, to the wondrous music (Magicant/Eight Melodies and Smile and Tears covers), to the random background enemies such as the Territorial Oaks, the sprout enemies, and pencil/octopi statues popping out. Not to mention that the background opens up to reveal scenes from the first two games, namely the Sanctuaries. It's the best stage on the 3DS, imo, and EarthBound fan or not, you have to admit its one of the most visually appealing stages on the 3DS, especially next to drab stages like Mushroomy Kingdom or Brinstar. Also, the Smash Run enemies is one thing I feared that Mother wouldn't get, but lo and behold, there's Devil Cars and Starmen. There's also a Starman Assist Trophy!

-Classic Mode is shorter, which makes it less tedious, and Master Hand and Crazy Hand have new, great-looking moves. Can't wait to see them on the Wii U. Not to mention the new boss...but that's spoilers.

-Good selection of ATs. Midna, Dark Samus, Pong, Nightmare, Elec Man, Mother Brain, etc.

-Good selection of Pokeball Pokemon.

-Alot more trophies and interesting modes (Trophy Rush).

but seriously I agree, this is a horrible decision on Sakurai's part imo, they definitely could've just reduced it to one Ice Climber like wtf

why didn't they do that

Duck Hunt, Popo, ROB, Mr. Game and Watch in one game would've been the best classic Nintendo representation possible and the fact that they DID work on the Wii U but were cut because of the 3DS seriously pisses me off. i'm not criticizing the 3DS version as a whole because portable smash sounds amazing to me, but it was a seriously poor decision to limit one game's roster because of it

and I like collecting trophies and shit so not seeing Layton in the game is really confusing considering that there's a Rayman trophy. but who knows, not all of the trophies have been revealed yet afaik and there's still the Wii U version for other 3rd party characters (though as if layton would be included in that).

but there's 3 Rhythm Heaven trophies, 2 Rolling Western trophies and a Mallo trophy so I guess it's not all bad to me
