Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Has anyone else gotten the poison water vibe while playing the Juicy Jungle world? The purple juice easily reminded me of the poison water from the New Super Mario Bros. titles, but at least it doesn't cost you any lives for falling in.

It definitely is better than DKCR so far, and it is far from being an "expansion pack" of the first one like SMG2 was. It definitely is it's own unique sequel.
I can tell you were thinking of me when you said this.7

I won't give an opinion out until I play the game.

No its just cosmectic. Haven't got to play for 2 days. Time to tackle the rest of 7 tonite.

Why oh why did Hard Mode have to do away with the checkpoints??? If they had left them in the games difficulty still would have been legendary. If you fall for one dirty trick, you lose ten or 15 min. of gameplay. Also you must get all the KONG letters in Hard Mode for a perfect record. All it does is turn the star by your stats blue, thanks a lot Monster Games for giving them the idea when you did this in DKCR 3DS BUT AT LEAST YOU DIDN'T TAKE OUT THE MOTHER FU(KIN CHECKPOINTS as if the challenge for Hard Mode ain't bitch enough!

Well, at least the checkpoints are irrelevant to the hardest levels of the game like the Ks and the bosses, but the normal levels are excruciatingly hard this time around. Oh God I can imagine the horror of Sea Breeze Cove having to not touch a single urchin or bomb or spike or electric eel or ANY THING when it is sooo easy to do so. AND having to get all the KONG letters and no pig with glasses to give me a checkpt. But let me tell you right now tho, I will make NO APOLOGIES for spamming Dixie in Hard Mode. If I could, I would carry her around in a holster for Hard Mode. Believe me it is HARD ENOUGH without her pony-tail. Even for levels where you think Cranky would be more useful, Dixie would still probably be better, with few exceptions. But I finished World 7 with DK Hard Mode because I wanted to do it while it was fresh in my mind the way I was used to doing it.

Yeah, taking out the checkpoints is bullshit, so I pretty much use Dixie for every level, although I would probably advise using Cranky for the bosses, except Skowl, since he can bounce on spikes and higher than Dixie. Seriously I died like 30 times on the world 3 boss. The lack of checkpoints wasn't so bad in the first three Worlds (except for maybe Frantic Fields and Bramble Scramble those levels are long), but I was feeling the crunch in World 4 and like I said previously, any Rocket Barrel will be the end of me. I hate them. Every single one of them.

Cranky seems to be the best bet for underwater stages too since he can kill Urchins with his cane and Retro decided that half the enemies in the underwater stages should be Urchins, but don't take my word for it because I died at the end of Deep Keep and decided that I had enough of the game (for real this time).

The game may as well have been called Dixie Kong Country.

You're giving up? You don't have to give up. Just take it one stage at a time. No one stage individually can likely keep you licked forever if you persevere at it.

I pretty much gave up trying to 200% complete Returns's Mirror Mode. You expect me to defeat Colonel Pluck with only one heart? That's just stupid!

Anyway, while a couple levels may be simple to beat without taking any damage, the temples and boss fights are another story.

Ironically, the fifth boss, Bashmaster, is unusually easy to beat with Dixie once you've figured out his attack plan; I had to do a lot of retried runs, just to get the gold, and the no damage award in Time Attack. However, I've seen times under 3:10, which probably means that those players were taking huge gambits by jumping on Bashmaster's head while he's still holding his hammer high; neither of them got the no damage award.

i just tried the second boss... oh my god, that's hard... i almost beat it, but that third stage killed me

On Hard Mode I'm hoping?

And MnSG, COL. PLUCK is absolutely NOTHING when compared with Thugly on Mirror. And I mean NOTHING!

Amusingly, I actually defeated Thugly in Mirror Mode.

Anyway, on another subject, I've been doing a couple Time Attack runs now.

Maybe different stuff is harder for different people? Funny thing is, I don't remember Thugly giving me too much trouble on Mirror on the original, but it did give me trouble on my 200% run on the 3DS remake. Does anyone have an explanation for this? I have heard the hit detection was off on the 3DS one just a LITTLE bit.

At least New Mode gives you two hearts for Mirror Mode. You don't get anything like that for Tropical Freeze.

no, on normal. i haven't beaten the game yet

so yesterday i started the bright savannah. it's a bit... er... stereotypical (well, i guess it's supposed to be in the style of the lion king play, but still). that said, the level with the tornado was pretty cool and very intense

So I went to Wal-Mart today and played a demo of this. The opening cutscene of this was GLORIOUS. The HD was FANTASTIC. I could make out every single piece of Donkey Kong's fur.

Too bad I still don't really like the gameplay of the DK series.

That's not possible. How can you like Mario then?

DK and Mario are different. Donkey Kong's is a lot more...challenging and it requires more timing as compared to Mario's 2.5D style. Plus there are minecart and Rocket Barrel levels (ugh, Rocket Barrels...).

Speaking of which, I have noticed that there aren't as many minecart levels as I thought there would be. Kind of sad about that. And at least the Rocket Barrel Levels are a lot more interesting this time around.

Made it to 6-1 so far. I did 5-K, and I completed it on like my 15th try or so (90% of the deaths being me too impatient or jumping too soon/late and minor errors). I honestly don't understand what was so hard about it, as I found it to be pretty easy compared to some of them. My favorite K level so far is number 4.

Yeah this. I mean, I enjoy playing DK once in awhile, and I like the challenge, but the gameplay doesn't really go well with me.

donkey kong has completely different gameplay

majorly being a completely different physics engine but also that DKC focuses more on challenge whereas Mario is usually more about wacky new ideas (though the series is now more about maintaining a worn-out sense of nostalgia, i guess). usually most of Mario's challenge is stuffed into the last world or so (plus the bonus worlds they have in like every game now), but DKC isn't very relenting (i'd say the first world of this game is equivalent to world 5 or 6 of DKCR)

This game has a remix of Bramble Blast? I MUST BUY IT!

Also, I might play the demo in Walmart.

I finished the game, and that final boss was HARD. His hitbox was so small, and you had to jump right between his shoulders. Started on 1-K and having lots of trouble, even with Dixie Kong, extra hearts, and green balloons. God this game is hard. I haven't even gotten to hard mode.

Irate 8 wasn't as bad on Hard as I thought. It took me only 23 min. Use Diddy, he is the best swimmer. Trust me. Cranky can hit Urchins with his cane but his swimming sucks balls.

Oh yeah Rockin' Relics 4A FIRST TRY BABY HARD ALL KONGS! It's funny there were so many places I could have died and almost died but I just kept surviving and surviving and before I knew it the level was over!
