I still don't know what to think about the new games because when there are complaints about a Sonic game you can never tell how much of those are valid complaints and how much are just Sonic fandom being Sonic fandom.
I don't get this...If most of the sonic fandom complain about some stuff, why did they like the Sonic series in the first place?

The Sonic fandom is just one of the most divisive fandoms even compared to most fandoms are. As Magikrazy said there are fans that only like one or more of the seperate (for a lack of a better term) eras of the Sonic franchise.

There are those who like the classic Genesis games and nothing else.

There are those who grew up with the Adventure games and think they're still some of the best of the 3D Sonic titles (I'd fall under this category).

There are even fans that came in during the "Dark Age" of Sonic as much as it boggles me that there is a decent number that actually like Sonic 06 unironically but the Dark Age does have some games where while they were almost all kinda bad in a way most Sonic fans still around at least have a guilty pleasure (Mine would be Sonic and and the Secret Rings). So maybe in some ways Sonic 06 is just a guilty pleasure for some.

And there are the more recent games that have regained some sort of competent design in most of the games. With how divided the Sonic fanbase is though there is a degree of controversy with even the generally good Sonic games of this time period. Even Colors and Generations has it's detractors or those who don't like it as much as most do.

So with both the Sonic Boom games and the show, it's no surprise there's some sort of backlash when Sonic Boom doesn't meet some of these people's expectations. And they vent their frustrations if even something as small as the design of the characters change. It might be a bit unfair most of the time, but yeah the Sonic fanbase just has plenty of people with vastly strong opinions for almost anything. Name a Sonic game and you'll probably find a decent number of people who loved the game, and at the same time people who hate the game. There's almost never a unanimous opinion of a game in the Sonic fanbase.

Scratch that, turns out the games don't have ANY backstory whatsoever about Sonic Boom. Sticks is just a random NPC in the Wii U version. And is basically just Amy's replacement in the 3DS version (Cause Amy is kidnapped in the 3DS Version). So yeah Sonic Boom has barely any lore behind it besides what we get for Lyric in the Wii U version :S
lol

can't wait for the sonic boom episode where it starts out with shadow having breakfast with sonic

I love all Sonic games (except for the shitty ones like 06, Shadow, and Sonic Genesis).
I would have thought you enjoyed Shadow the Hedgehog.

The fact that there are people who prefer Sonic games based on how characters look just boggles me! Who gives a shit about how they look?! As long as the games are fun isn't that all that matters?!
Well I mean you wouldnt eat something that looked like shit would you?

Same concept (though the green eye thing is dumb)

The Classic era (Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, 3D Blast)

I'm not sure how you can lump 3D Blast with the others like that. I'm pretty sure the majority hates that game, regardless of their opinion on the first three. Sonic CD, on the other hand...

Me, I'm part of the "Master System/Game Gear titles need more appreciation" crowd.

It's not really much of a crowd.

the sonic fanbase seems like the least rational fanbase out of all fanbases

and that's saying something because there are some pretty silly fanbases out there

True but thanks to this guy...

Sonic is officially the franchise with the saddest group of fans ever

06 and Shadow both had good plots though...and amazing soundtracks.

I mean seriously Sonic Games naturally have incredible soundtracks.

i have yet to hear a good sonic story, which is expected of a platformer series.
I do think that both Adventure games, Unleashed and Colors did have interesting and enjoyable storylines. Although most other Sonic storylines are pretty bland.

yeah the stories in the mario franchise are just legendary

I think he phrased that badly and he means it's expected for platform games to not have much plot.

Unless of course we're talking about Kirby Squeak Squad I mean damn

you dont seem to be paying attention to my post

but what sifi said

there are no good stories in platformer games, that ive encountered anyway.

New episodes came out today (And actually not the two episodes from the synopsis posted before :V)

The first of the two was the better episode. Nothing too big, but it was something that made for some good conflict. Interesting to note that this was the first episode from Dave Polsky which is the writer who's done work for FiM as mentioned in the title of this thread. It was fun to have the robot tell what the characters are saying in their mind. Also this confirms that Amy's crush on Sonic is still there in Sonic Boom, but again this makes it more subtle then the modern games as Amy doesn't want Sonic to know completely. When in most of the recent games, Amy is quite in Sonic's face about it.

The other episode though... was just stupid. And it doesn't really endear me any more to Sticks. They also kinda both do exactly what the cliche "character gets a new pet that annoys everyone else but then saves the day at the end" to a T and a little bit of it not. But it still ends pretty much with the robot dog recognizing Sticks as it's owner and turning on Eggman. It tries to make a joke on it or two like the flashback sequence not immediately working. But nonetheless it still ends pretty much the same way if it had turned on Eggman then. It's an annoying cartoon plot cliche that does absolutely nothing new with it. The Anti-Fireman robot was kinda amusing at the beginning though

Ok finished watching the third and fourth episodes. The third was ok, but fourth was just meh; neither topped the second episode. Once again, more Eggman/Pollock shenanigans is the absolute highlight of the show. That's probably going to be a running theme.

oh ok, i wasn't the only one who misread that

gee sticks is insufferable in this show. the fourth episode with the vomiting dog is disgusting and cliched as hell

as others said, eggman shenanigans are the best part of the show

are you painting the entire fandom with one guy?

that's pretty silly
Well he is the PRIME example of this fanbase
I don't know if I'd use him to exemplify Sonic fans. He's an extreme example, recently he tried to basically vandalize stores by putting fake covers on Sonic Boom games telling people not to buy them...just cause Sonic's arms are blue/everyone looks different.
