this whole topic is a major wtf

i mean really, its just such an odd subject, and so many even more awkward answers.

not sure what to think of this topic in other words

(also not sure on birdo as it looks like it could be either).

The one that appeared in smb2 was a crossdresseser but I believe there are male and female members of the Birdo species and like Yoshis there are way more than one.

I think as long as Nintendo keep Birdo as a main character but don't try to keep it secret, there wouldn't be any "truth" in her or the species. It's just like telling there are seven genders of toads in Marioverse all of a sudden.

I say it should either gain a female voice, become male (without the pink and bow and everything) or get the hell out. The creature we have now disturbs me to no end.

Birdo's a female. If people decide to fuss this much about the gender of a bunch of pixels/polygons, shame on them.

Birdo is a female. I don't even understand why people give two #@5% about her gender. To my own thinking she's pink, wearing a bow, wearing a diamond ring, and nearly all descriptions call her a girl nowadays. And since Nintendo is one of those companies who would give female species those girl stereotypes, it's only fair to assume that she's a girl just by looking at her.

i'm really not amused by this

i'm also not very articulate when i'm angry, or even in general, but i'm going to try this anyway

neither the fact that birdo is fictional, nor the fact that she's a dinosaur, mean that calling her by the wrong pronouns is a defensible action. birdo's feelings arent what's at issue here. this culture consistently erases and dehumanizes trans people, and one method of doing that is by insisting that they are the gender that matches their sex organs, or that they are genderless objects. by referring to birdo as "he" or "it", you perpetuate that pattern and normalise it. even though birdo can't be hurt by it since she's fictional, the fact that youre reinforcing the pattern means that other trans people who really exist can be hurt by it

maybe you like the idea of buttressing social structures that injure all trans people for no reason whatsoever. otherwise, you must insist on using the correct pronouns for everyone, always
Well once again, I apologize. I would never mean to hurt an actual transsexual's feelings. The only reason I consider Birdo an "it" or a "thing" is because I don't know what the heck kind of species Birdo is. You know, like Gonzo.

I'll keep my headcanon regardless, though. It doesn't always comply with what's official. For example, I think the Koopalings are the love children of Bowser and Peach, but Bowser disowned them.

I thought Gonzo was an alien... And clearly a dude...

Your hateful, prejudiced transphobia disturbs me to no end.

wait, so those references to "gonzo" weren't about xzelion...?

uh, shit

anyway, i'm fairly certain birdo is a birdo. you can get multiple birdos on your team in some of the sports games, and they're all called "birdo", so

I am not hateful, nor am I prejudiced. While I may not agree with gender-swapping and the like, I am certainly not those things. I cannot help if a low voice coming from an obviously female creature disturbs me. It just does.

Birdo is female.

Does that mean all the other birdos are female, too?

Who knows? Maybe they have the ability to reproduce eggs that hatch

we all know the real reason for all birdos dressing that way is that nintendo doesn't want to expend the effort to make multiple birdo models

but if you wanted to come up with a fanon rationalisation, there's no reason bows and diamond rings have to be considered effeminate objects in birdo culture

...or what baby luigi said. parthenogenesis is a real thing that certain reptiles do

because why? does the existence of trans people harm you in any way?

I'm not going to stir up trouble with my beliefs. I'll just say it ties in with homosexuality, which is frowned upon in the Bible.

Please don't bring the freaking bible and the homosexuality misunderstandings into this discussion

Well I suggest you take that back that "homosexuality is frowned upon in the Bible". What happened to "love thy neighbors" and other stuff like that?

how about you just drop it altogether?

it has nothing to do with this discussion and we all know it's just going to cause problems.

Not to start a debate, but I do not flame people for things like that. I can't help if Birdo's current portrayal disturbs me, I know some gay people and I don't hate on them for it.

No it's not. It was written 1500 years ago, and has been translated several times. It could have easily been some mistranslations.

Edit: I'd like to get back on topic, but it's causing too much controversy, so I'll just stop posting.
